cheers buddy. Whilst I have lost some of that "restricted" feeling typical of a C172, it still feels good and now for my purposes a lot more functional. Will keep it like this now for a while in this never ending sim hobby. !
A half shell? I’m shocked (and as always a wee bit impressed). Nicely done! When I started thinking about flying other planes I just started building another cockpit…I guess that’s a perk of divorce 😂…nobody to stop me
cheers buddy. Yes was time for a change and whilst I enjoyed the full enclosure, the half shell is working well for me without losing the full immersion feel. The operator station has already become redundant and the right screen now the primary monitor with increased viewing capacity. Love your centre consol BTW. Chat soon mate.
Hi Cess. Nicely explained and makes total sense for comfort and usability. The 172 is a small space and having a 1 to 1 enclosure is certainly not conducive to running a live stream. So the compromise makes perfect sense. I do wonder if you will miss the 'feeling' of enclosure/immersion in the future. I guess you only know when you are back flying😉 It has made me pause with my build. I wonder if doing a full enclosure will be right for me. Food for thought indeed. Like you say there are plenty of other Cessna aircraft to play with! 😊Good luck for the channel in 2025 and hope to see you flying soon. Cheers!
cheers buddy. After 3 years in a full shell and with overall evolution, time for a change (my zany streams will take on a whole new level now!). I am very pleased with the new look and feel. Chat soon.
@kingsimaviation cheers mate. Certainly has a cleaner look now and somewhat more functional for me at this stage now with more streams on the way. Thanks for tuning in....
i have a actual 1966 172 fusalge, and i had 3 monitors in there and I finnally just cut the whole roof and pillars off and did what you did about a year ago. I kept whacking my head on the roof in VR and to hard crawling in and out of the cockpit and like you I could not see my screens for apps and buttons.. Now i have full view of the screens , way better!
@@CessSim I like the Simionic Glass cockpit. I think I might do that upgrade, 1 reason is my second PC ran the gauges from Desktop pilot and also 6DOF with Simtools but the new Version 3 does not work for 2 PCs so i had to run it on the flight pc, and if i went with Simionics glass cockpit i could get rid of the extra PC !
@@iamcanadian2121 Thanks. One of the main reasons I went with Simionic was due to there being no additional load on your PC. Runs independent. Just make sure you have a decent solid wifi signal that doesnt suffer from dropouts, else you lose connection.
Honestly, I am shocked that you did this. I thought the immersion of having the full physical cockpit was what you wanted. But I fully understand how the practicalities of that can be an issue. Anyway, I hope you are happy once you start using it. Another advantage of this setup is you could now, if you wanted, switch to other GA aircraft, and the virtual cockpit around you will change with it.
thanks mate. Time for a change and I am very happy with the result. Lost some of the immersion, but traded that off with better viewing, lighting, and head room to protect the noggin. Still feels relatively enclosed. Yes I can (and am) flying alternate aircraft now and the increased viewing across my screens greatly helps with my streaming activity. Beauty of the change is that it was relatively easy with only a couple of the rear verticals to cut down which can be easily replaced should I decide to go back at a point in the future. Appreciate you tuning in.
@CessSim I enjoy trying different aircraft, so I have similar to your new layout. Though in my case I have the view in the pilot position rather than centred on the aircraft. So the prop isn't in the middle for me. I don't have a nice setup with all same screens like you though. I have a 43" TV on my left, three 27" screens in front and a 32" Screen on my right. Haha.
Nice and it opens up possibly flying other aircraft. Have a similar setup and can recommend the COWS DA42. Flys great and the wrap around glass cockpit looks brilliant.
Interesting take mate. Most simmers, when they build a shell, they want it as accurate as possible to the real thing. I liked the way you did yours with the 3D printed windows bezels and all, but I know it can hinder finding your icons and stuff. I suffered through the same when I set up my 60" displays for my Lear45 build. The Lear has a bigger windscreen so it's not as bad as a 172, but I understand the limitations. I honestly really liked how realistic your sim looked in your past videos. So looking forward to see how it looks in your future vids. Cheers!
cheers mate and appreciate you tuning in and feedback. The sim was great when flying solo as certainly raised the immersion and feeling of being tightly enclosed (as would be the case for the C172), however as mentioned I intend to do more live streaming in the future which will be more for entertaining than anything (plenty of serious pilots already on YT), and as such I need to be able to interact more. It certainly feels better for me now, however I would not discourage anyone from building a full shell. Really depends on what you want to get out of it. Finally, the channel is called "CessSim" so in reality I should be flying other Cessna's........watch this space.
Mate belated Merry Christmas and wishing you and your family a very very great year ahead. Keep it up. Great job. BY the way, I guess while it is very understanding that you are doing great job with your cabin , But I guess it is not bad to think about buying the cabin from TRC company. It is a bit costly but that is realllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy nice.
cheers buddy and to you. Yes I am across the TRC units and yes they are expensive. I managed to get some of their sketch profiles in the early days of my design thinking which helped with the side profile of my current rig (minus the roof and side cutouts now of course !). chat soon...
I think its now time to slowly change it from Cessna 172 to a generic one in which you can simulate multiple different aircrafts, and all you need is a throttle quadrant and if you really want then maybe a redesign of instrument panel so it doesn't look like Cessna.
If you weren't worried about cameras do you feel like the full enclosure gives you more realism? I'm thinking about an enclosure build and I have been following your progress for a while. I was thinking about trying to knock off your design but now you're throwing me a curve ball :)!
@Scottforyoutube I wouldn't discourage it mate as I had great fun with the full enclosure. You certainly lose some of the feeling of being confined once roof is gone. If you follow a similar design to mine then you can easily modify. I can always put the roof back if I choose to. Go for it !!
Could do that but I now prefer an open roof (gets quite warm inside), plus I now have a key light off to one side behind right screen for lighting which is much better....
nice. big difference. I like what you did there.

I flew a 1970's Cessna, so your flight panel is a mystery to me :)
dont worry, still a mystery to me as well !
What about a lightweight sim roof which would fold or side away?
