Åhman and Hellvig just so dominant - not sure what else Cottafava and Nicolai could have done. Frequent option balls seem to work, though, fighting fire with fire.
These 2 young running machines will outwear anyone who opposes them. They looked like top of the food chain predators, just having fun with their prey. Still a great game by Italy. Anyone wanting to beat Ahman and Hellvig, has to play their game. And have a sip at the fountain of youth!!

And yet, when that moment comes, success for his team will hinge on how well Cottafava performs. Nicolai is reliable and consistent, always one of the best players on tour. For them to medal in Paris, his partner will have to come through.

Totally agree. It's kind of surprising, though, considering that he is a little hunched over, not a model athlete physically like other blockers.

He is easier to read and not a lefty like Cottafava. However, he is a 90% sideout player, so you may have a point 😁
He's also older, as you could tell at the end of the 2nd set. The gas ran out. Still a great player, he just needs to adapt to the new option game.

They just make him tired. Serving Cottafava gives the italians too many chances at an option swing with very high success rate.
