@@marissac870 and to add to that, the whole 9 club cast doesn’t have a background in transition skating at all, now that I think about it. They’re all kind of tech guys.
My favorite 411, Best of Vol.3. Got it for Xmas, little did my parents know I found it in their closet a week before, watched it, rewound, and packaged it back up to receive Xmas morning 😂
I wasn’t exposed to skate culture till much later in life and only had issue 43 growing up. I’d watch it all the time over and over, not really knowing a whole series was behind it and the breadth of skateboarding. I love it more than ever!
i remember every single one of these openers, omg thanks for the trip down memory lane, all of these tricks were so legit and awe inspiring for me in that era of skating. great compilation kelly.
This is epic. I also love how 411VM Issue 50 did top 50 Greatest Openers, and then Issue 60/10 Year Anniversary Issue had an Openers Chaos Section. Anything from Tony Hawks Kickflip McTwist to Frank Gerwer Kickflip down Wallenberg 4. A variety of jaw droppers while hearing the intro song (Sol - The Boxcar) since Issue #1.
411 theme music used to get me so hyped up to go skate!! I remember moshing my friends, shoving them down to the ground when it came on, just wildin out!!
as a 90s skater, still rollin, im so stoked to see that clip of kareem take no1! that dude showed me n my mates what steeeez is. influenced every one of us for the rest of our shreddin lives.
New to skateboarding (check out progression) -- This channel is so dope, I get to pick peoples brains and listen to lingo. Great for progression. Thanks guys!
This is exactly my time aswell! Damn i loved watching 411! I still remember all these clips! Damn… I actually still have the vhs tapes at the crib! 😋🤙🏼
I still have my 411vm dvds & a few vhs tapes. I gave them away 10 years ago but once I realized how rare they were becoming, I instantly started ordering them back to back on amazon & ebay. Now some of them movies are super hard to find. I even got lucky & found deca 2nd to none dvd on ebay for $30.
That bump to ledge Danny Garcia kickflip tail kickflip outs on (great trick) was on Melrose Boulevard. That was my favorite skate spot of all time. You never got kicked out. I kickflip tailslid it, which I was stoked on at the time. I grew up skating with Van Wastell and I still have a photo I took for high school photo class of him front tailsliding it. Great call on that one.
Yo I grew up on h-street, world industries, plan b, girl chocolate and 411 was so dope you could see all your favorite pros dropping clips on vhs 411vm
see we always went back to watch old skate vids like even tho it was 10 years after their release we loved watching welcome to hell and misled youth before a sesh. gotta remember the limited availability of skate vids too between me and all the homies we only had like 10 total VHS that were just on repeat haha
411 32 to 49 where amazing to me! Love these throwbacks. Bob B, changed vert in the early 2000s for the best. Now we have some amazing pool/park/street skaters that rip everything they see. The world is their skate park, just need to find all the spots.
@@funkydankspliff yeah back when I was a kid the cheap skate shoes are now worth $200 I used to get first gen Air Jordans in either the black and red or the white black and red or the blue and black for 20 bucks a pair at Big 5 those same shoes now are being resold by Nike for what $150 to $200? What a joke
I'm heavily biased here because issue 44 is the first and only 411 I own on VHS and the opener, my introduction to skate videos, was Tosh Townend hucking a feeble down el toro haha. Right after that you have TX doing a nollie varial flip noseslide down a ledge which made absolutely zero sense to me, and Danny Garcia doing a nollieflip crook down a rail. I love all 411's but that one will always have a special place in my heart!
Listen...I just checked the channel history and you guys haven’t interviewed each other...could be interesting to have one guest host help you out with that. Great vid!
It's 1 AM and I just got this random thought about how much I loved éS when I was younger and although I don't skate anymore could ya'll let someone know to rerelease the benji shirt? I can't find a vintage one anywhere. That was my shit!
These young kids really do call it a hard flip backside 180 you guys are right that is nothing but a ghetto bird Same thing as most of these young kids don't even know why we call the little ledges in the park hubbas Coincidentally you had a frontnose 270 out also this episode. I Liked that Steezy Called it what I've always called that and that's a 270 out Pretzel way
411VM 1-15 were some of the best!! You missed out. I had a subscription as a kid too, so I can relate to receiving the video in the mail, all the kids in the neighborhood coming over to get amped on the latest before we’d set up the box, the rail, the jump ramp, etc., out front for after school session. I had all of the 411’s memorized up until like 46 I think…but they got progressively worse I felt. Just the style and the direction skating was going wasn’t as appealing as it was previously. I think when you saw 411vm #1 (or any through about #9) it felt like an underground phenomena yet. There was a window from early 90s to mid 90s where skating was for skaters precisely because it wasn’t like super accessible and mainstream yet and it was only being done by people who already loved it, and everything about it, in the 80s.
Yup. Orange county born and raised right here! I grew up skating in Westminster and then moved to Buena Park and I lived in front of peak skate park and I would see Ronnie skating there in the morning when I walked my dog !
good list but since he said this list was from 1-50 i recomend for people out there that hasent watched it to check out issue 50 where lance list the top openers from 1-50 in there eyes. pretty cool
I made it into 411 #3, they didn't put any of my tricks in, just 4 seconds of me dancing like a fool, oh the glory 🤣🤣🤣
I love how stoked Kelly is on these. Man loves his skateboarding.
But not really into transition

Issue number 16 will always be my favorite. The slams at the end to Fake Plastic Trees is epic.
Watching Creager do that with my own eyes over the eurogap at Wembley repeatedly and so clean and consistently was insane, blew my mind.

Kareem’s ghettobird NEVER gets old!
so a nollie hardflip back 180 is a ghettobird as well? kinda confused here
Always thought the ghettobird was a hardflip revert. Actually is just a nollie big flip?
Oh skateboarding… gotta love it haha. I would say hardflip revert too. But I’m no expert
@@rektscrub5284 a true ghetto bird invented by Kareem is a nollie hard flip back 180 everything else technically isn’t but is considered one

switch hard flip late flip that’s nutty

I was expecting Aaron Babila's switch flip backside tailslide on the LA courthouse to be in this list. That was insane.
my favourite was cameron pooftoorish (spelling definately wrong) and his switch back tail around the curve ledge in third and army. awesome opener
