I think with the Golf what your paying for is to a large extent the unseen stuff- brilliant well designed and engineered platform leading to very good road handling and even things like lower noise levels on the cabin. Loved this laid back review guys. PS you can still get a manual to!!
Thanks for the review guys. I feel that at the end of the day what your paying for with the Golf, is the superb platform it rides on with its excellent engineering and design, its still a unique vehicle that has class best handling.
I put my gearbox into sport at roundabouts & often when I'm turning into another street. The DSG just seems to select the better gear for those situations, even in everyday use & not sporty driving. Quickly change it back to standard when I'm nearly up to speed. Also, yes, I still think the piano black in the instrument binnacle looks cheap from some angles. It's not an issue with piano black itself, but rather the use. It's almost like they designed it to take a bigger digital instrument screen, found they didn't have any available & threw in the piano black plastic at the last minute because they had nothing else to fill the space. I find it really reminiscent of the blanked out button spaces we used to get in base model cars in the 90s.
Great review. The Golf has always been a driver’s car and it’s nice to see that maintained in the current generation of Golf. I suspect the ride in the Golf Life is better than the R series. Someone else asked so will be interested to hear your views.
Fine switz watch pity it hasn't got the reliability of a switz watch .I can see that infotainment system that controls audio ,blue tooth ,AC and a host of other thing you control through that stupid system instead of physical buttons come to a complete fail post warranty be prepared to shell out at least a couple of K replacement being VW high probability of fail

in the base model but it has either been deleted, or hasn't arrived yet. we are yet to get an answer
As well as a T Cross R Line I have a 10 year old Golf 1.4 5 speed manual, and I find myself gravitating to the Golf. Great review guys.
there is just something special about the way a Golf drives, i think....

it could well be made to take a bigger screen if needed. I wonder if they also abandon the DSG in sports models too?
@@gaycarboys no, I think just in the standard cars.
Nice one guys just wondering the difference in the ride comfort compared to the R model.
R? or R-Line? The R isn't here yet. We have the R-line this week as well, for comparison so will let you know once I've had a spin in it
@@gaycarboys Awesome can not wait.
