I've always wondered, for the space between the base pairs it's 3.4A right, and then for 10 base pairs it's 34A but the 3.4A is measuring the space BETWEEN, so that's 9 spaces rather than 10 so why isn't it 9 x 3.4 = 30.6A?

Friedrich Miesher isolated pus cells (WBC's) & lysed it by adding weak alkaline . Finally he called the precipitate as 'nuclein' i.e; DNA
    1) why he called it as nuclein ?
    2) what is the action of weak alkaline solution on WBC ?
    3) How did he concluded that nuclein is the carrier of triats ?
