Recommendation for 2023. If you have a month with no 5* reads, rather than put a 4* in, give yourself a *wildcard* pick where you can choose a 5* read that didn’t win from any other month. That way you keep the bracket to 5* books and don’t eliminate an excellent book just because you happened to read it in a month where you had a lot of 5* reads!!
@@PlantBasedBride I realized that it might defeat the entire purpose of the bracket as soon as I wrote it! 😂 You could make a rule, like that 5* wild card must be the second place book in the month with the most 5*. More rules to help you avoid the hemming and hawing! I hope you never have to decide, and all your months are filled with at least one 5*!!
I have made an enormous TBR list off of your recommendations. This year was not a year with much time for extracurricular reads. 2023 goals! Happy Holidays.💞
I absolutely love that you read books by Australian and New Zealand First Nations authors!! I always get so frustrated because there are so many incredible authors here (like Tara June Winch) but they are so slept on by the rest of the world!!
I read Braiding Sweetgrass this year too. I'm ready to read it again, lol. There is nothing like it. But the other top 3 seemed like stiff competition. I'll have to check them out.
I knew it! I knew Braiding Sweetgrass would win! It's one of my faves of all time. Yes, I think you did do better than last year. Hope you and Jason and your families have the best New Year EVER! 🎄🥂💖
I really enjoyed this video. I am just getting back into reading for pleasure. Since doing my master's degree and having to do a lot of reading for my professional development, I have not read for pleasure in a long time. A few days ago, I realized how much I was missing it. So, I am going to re-watch this and write down all the books you mentioned to put them on my reading list. Looking forward to watching your book related videos in the future!
Ah yay this makes me so happy! I’d love to hear your thoughts on any of these you pick up 🥰 it’s brought me so much joy getting back into reading after taking a break of a few years after college ❤️
I just did a book bracket for myself, and I definitely noticed that some months were chock full of 5 stars, and then others barely even had 4 stars 😂 It was really hard picking the initial round (because some of my feelings have changed over the year), but the second round was super easy. But the way I organized my bracket pitted Something Wilder by Christina Lauren from the first half of 2022 against Greywaren by Maggie Stiefvater in the second half, and ultimately I had to pick Greywaren because it wrapped up not only the Dreamer Trilogy but the entire world going back to The Raven Cycle.
Loved all the undead noises you were making while you tried to decide what would win each bracket. 😂 I’m going to make one of these before the end of the year, and I’m sure I’ll be doing the exact same thing.
This was so fun! I was trying to guess which book you would choose! :) Thanks for sharing. There were at least 5 books I added to my TBR list for 2023.
The book bracket is so fun and satisfying. While watching your one-sentence review videos, a lot of these titles caught my attention, especially the winner so I'm excited to add them to my 2023 tbr!
I'm nearing the end of Legends & Lattes at the moment and loving it!! I've also read Silent Companions, Dracula, The Turn of Screw, and Braiding Sweetgrass. I can totally see why it won your book bracket - so incredible ❤ I'll be adding Purakau to my list for sure!
I loved In the Dream House so I can't wait to read Her Body and Other Parties 🙌 My faves of the year include Our Wives Under the Sea, Just Like Home, This Thing Between Us, The Children on the Hill, Book Lovers, The Charm Offensive, and You Made a Fool of Death with Your Beauty 🌠
This was so much fun. Sorry for enjoying your struggle, but is so relatable. 😅 Thanks for sharing! 📚✨ I’ll definitely add Legends and Lattes to my tbr!
I knew you would love Shadow of the Wind! I love the series! I also love this video and how you decide your favourite and how your passion for reading just radiates through.
Whenever you feel it's too hard to pick one book out of two or four , think of which book out of those would you recommend to someone who has just started reading books (non-academic obviously 😂). That may help.
My favourite of the year was actually one you hated - 'Beautiful World, Where Are You' 😅 But I love to see that you gave my favorite from 2018 (I think) The Vegetarian so much love. I also read We Are the Weather this year, and I agreed with your rating. It was definitely one of the worst books I've read this year, and a complete waste of time
After watching the whole video, I realized it wouldn’t have changed your winner in the end. Already requested it from my library 📚 Thank you for the recommendation & inspiration 💖
When I saw your insta story about book eaters, I went to the bookstore immediately and bought it. Just finished it and loved it SO MUCH. One the best books I read this year, so thank you ❤️❤️ Braiding sweetgrass is in my list now 🤣
Oh my gosh really? I loved it! So funny and over the top with really interesting commentary. To be fair I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it if I read it at 16 rather than 29 😂
@@PlantBasedBride met a cousin at a halfway-between-us independent bookstore and wound up walking out with Cloud Cuckoo Land and Braiding Sweetgrass. I already own and adore Broken and The Shadow of the Wind. I also own The City We Became but haven’t read it yet. Weird given that I’ve adored everything I’ve read by Jemisen.
For the October slot, you could’ve picked another 5 star read from a previous month rather than picking a 4 star from that month! That way it truly is a ranking of all your favs :) but I get how that messes w the system ahahah
I think it’s perfectly appropriate that the Plant Based Bride, for Plantmas, chose a book about how plants “…offer us gifts and wisdom.” ❤️🌿
Haha so true! 🥰

I considered that but realized it would take me far too long to decide which 5 star book should get that honour! I’ll likely try that next year ❤️

Or maybe put all the 5 stars that didn't get picked in a jar and pull out a random one.🤔
I’m so happy to see Pūrākaū on your list! Your pronunciation was very impressive too! (The last syllable kaū has a pronunciation more like “co”)
Thank you! I’ll keep practicing 😅 it was really great! I want to buy a physical copy and reread it (I have the ebook) ❤️
I have made an enormous TBR list off of your recommendations. This year was not a year with much time for extracurricular reads. 2023 goals! Happy Holidays.💞
Amazing! I hope you enjoy them ❤️ happy holidays to you, too!
So fun to watch this.....Love your bookish videos. I would love to see more of your trackers and setup in more detail........
Can't wait to see your 2023 reading journal set up!
I absolutely love that you read books by Australian and New Zealand First Nations authors!! I always get so frustrated because there are so many incredible authors here (like Tara June Winch) but they are so slept on by the rest of the world!!
I would love more recs if you want to share them! I need to read all of Tara June Winch’s work ❤️
So fun Elizabeth! Sorry for your agonizing 😆 I still have TBRs from last year's bracket but happily adding to it after this one ❤️
I read Braiding Sweetgrass this year too. I'm ready to read it again, lol. There is nothing like it. But the other top 3 seemed like stiff competition. I'll have to check them out.
Are you planning on doing a video in the new year reading the 2022 goodreads winners? Lovedddd that video from this year!!
I was considering it! I’ve done it twice now and it’s been a mixed bag both times 😂
Ah the wonderful plantmas :) Its now a three year tradition for me to listen to this.
Elizabeth, I so enjoy these book videos. Now Braiding Sweetgrass will go on my reading list.
I hope you love it!! 🥰

I look forward to this video! Love watching you break your year down and picking your favorite of the year. ✨️🖤
I’m so glad you enjoy these! They’re really fun to make 🥰
thanks for the inspo my girl

i adored this video!! it was so relaxing and well made, thank you once again for a lovely relaxing time
You're so welcome!

I loved this last year and now I have a book to check out.
I hope you adore it!
@@PlantBasedBride It's a very different topic for me but I like to expand my interests, so will try it. Happy Holidays!
Having read Braiding Sweetgrass, I'm so happy to see it up there. It is so good.
So so good!
The book bracket is so fun and satisfying. While watching your one-sentence review videos, a lot of these titles caught my attention, especially the winner so I'm excited to add them to my 2023 tbr!
Oo amazing! I hope you enjoy them all as much as I did 🥰
I love and adore the fact that your choices are almost always opposite of mine. Brings a new view on those reads.
Ooo interesting! Which would you pick?
I'm nearing the end of Legends & Lattes at the moment and loving it!! I've also read Silent Companions, Dracula, The Turn of Screw, and Braiding Sweetgrass. I can totally see why it won your book bracket - so incredible ❤ I'll be adding Purakau to my list for sure!

I loved In the Dream House so I can't wait to read Her Body and Other Parties 🙌

In the Dream House is right at the top of my TBR! I plan on reading it next year ❤️ Oo some of those I’ve never heard of so I’ll have to look them up!
I could never so this, I can't choose!! Such great books all around 💖
I got "Braiding Sweetgrass" for Christmas :D Super excited to read it!
Sending you love and creative vibes
Hope you enjoy it!
In October I would have picked a five star previously eliminated!
YOUR NAILS!!!!
I adore this video. I was already waiting for it since last year, literally😂😂😂
Aw thank you! 🥺❤️❤️
This was so much fun. Sorry for enjoying your struggle, but is so relatable. 😅 Thanks for sharing! 📚✨ I’ll definitely add Legends and Lattes to my tbr!
The winner you picked was my winner from last year! Truly an incredible read, it really stays with you and changed my perspective on nature. 💕💕💕
Yes, so true! It was such a worldview shifting book ❤️
EXCELLENT final pick, Braiding Sweetgrass is a forever handsell for me (but yes, agonizing to get to that point)
It’s so incredible! A more than worthy winner ❤️
I love the book bracket. I do think this one was faster than last year’s book bracket. I’ll definitely have to check out Braiding Sweetgrass.
I’m so glad you enjoy these videos! It’s such a fantastic book ❤️
I knew you would love Shadow of the Wind! I love the series! I also love this video and how you decide your favourite and how your passion for reading just radiates through.
Good evening 👋😊 plant based bride 🌹 thank you for sharing all your videos Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy New Year 🎉👍🌹💌☺️🦄👋
Been really looking forward to this one!
I hope you enjoyed it 🥰
I've had Braiding Sweetgrass on my bookshelf for almost a year now. This is the push I needed to finally read it lol
I hope you love it!

That’s so funny 😂 I feel like people either love or hate that book and I am squarely in the I hate it camp lol I’m glad it worked for you, though!
If I didn’t have a 5 star one month, I would have added a 5 star from another month 😊 I’m committed to reading your winner in 2023 💖
I considered that too, but picking one would have probably taken me a very long time 😂
After watching the whole video, I realized it wouldn’t have changed your winner in the end. Already requested it from my library 📚 Thank you for the recommendation & inspiration 💖

Oh I am so happy to hear this!!
Yay!! 🎉🎉🎉 I love your book journal vids!
I’m so glad you enjoy them! ❤️
Oh man, start of the video me was so joyful…. End of the video me felt all your anguish trying to pick your fave!!😅😅
Got my Libby app open as I watch!! 💚💚
Amazing 🥰
Always enjoyable to watch you struggle with your yesröy book bracket😂😘
If you haven't read it yet, try "Let's Pretend this Never Happened"...more Jenny Lawson gold!
Will there be 2022 reading journal flip through?
Yes!
The struggling sounds 🤣
Wait, where's the cat? 🥺
Yoda was on my lap while I was filming and wouldn't get off the table when I stood up to take a thumbnail 😂
Oh the torture!!! But, fabulous choice 🌿🌿🎄🌟✨
Haha thank you!! True torture for sure 😂
I can’t believe you rated Machado de Assis 5 stars hahaha I couldn’t read the first few pages when I was in high school 😅
Oh my gosh really? I loved it! So funny and over the top with really interesting commentary. To be fair I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it if I read it at 16 rather than 29 😂
I’m curious, if the competition were Jan v. Jul, Feb v. Aug, Mar v. Sep, Apr v. Oct, May v. Nov, Jun v. Dec, how the rankings would have fared.
Oo a fun thought experiment! I might try it for fun just to see (though I think the end result would be the same!)

I did consider that! ❤️ I was happy to include Bliss Montage, though, it was a great collection!
Since October you didn't have any 5 stars you should have chosen a wild card from all the other 5 stars.
“i hope you all are enjoying listening to my pain” me, out loud: we are!
