My grandmother taught me to pinch off the 1st tomato bud or 1st tomato bud that looks to be ready to produce a tomato. Doing this caused all of the plants I plant to have tremendous yields. Im 61 years old, and I've been pinching off the 1st tomato budding. This has worked for 40 years. Enjoy gardening as it's relaxing and fun.

    • @briangreenfield7236

Yes the reason for this is to let the plant grow bigger so the fruit doesn't rob to much nutrients before it gets big enough to produce larger yields.

Honestly don't think it matters for indeterminate tomato plants. Determinate for sure. I do same thing with my lemon trees and pepper plants

@SwampfoxBirdseye If they have been in the small starter pots too long which usually happens they get root bound and stunts the plants growth so it does help a little bit for sure.

There are very few people left in this world with passed down real survival knowledge, like wich mushrooms are safe to eat and the skill of recognising them ,how to skin and butcher the animal you have hunted, how to know wich plants have medicinal qualities, how to defend one's home stead ,even better how to make one even though that option has been deleted for most of us . Just the fact that we have been systematically told throughout generations to forget what is important like passing down cultural critical survival techniques tricks and important information that are becoming lost to time

For what it's worth you should remove the blooms and tomatoes from the little plants so the plants get some size to them before setting fruit. Also your containers are over crowded. One tomato plant to a container works best. Just my experience .

Gotta plant some native wildflowers, maybe a tote/barrel or two in different areas, to attract lacewings, ladybugs etc that will eat pest bugs. Lacewing larvae eat, Im pretty sure, thousands of pest bugs a day lol. Or, even look into a bee hive for some honey and pollination. Use your moms chicken cleanings for fertilizers. Take banana peels and put them in a jar of water outside, then use the water around your plants. It will add potassium to the soil and help with the mushrooms and any leaf rot.
For soil, if you can after this season remove the tubs and cover the ground where you want to plant with cardboard and mulch. It will break down creasing a good topsoil and then I would plant in ground.

Gabe get you some liquid fertilzer. Miracle grow makes a good one. It comes with a dispenser that attaches to the water hose. Everytime you water your garden use the liquid fertilzer. Everything. I would feed it every day until it greens up.
Marigolds will help keep the bugs away. I think I saw some sitting by your fence. Also dish soap mixed with water sprayed on the plants will get rid of the bugs. You can also spray it with malathon. That's what I use.
Coffee grounds will make the ants move and is good for the plants.

Mushrooms are from the compost in your bag mix. Squash is yellow from too much water. Carrots are slow growing. The bag mix doesn’t need as much water as your creek mix that is probably sandier. Should not need fertilizer for a while in your bag mix.

Next year put 3 inches of gravel on the bottom of those tomato buckets. Drill holes right above the rocks for drainage then do several inches of manure followed by topsoil. Sterile dairy manure will prevent weeds. The roots of those tomatoes will drive down into the fertilizer and into the rocks that will always hold water. Good luck

Here in Newfoundland during growing season I find and learned over the years that if you use containers for gardening it’s better to have the bottom cut out so the plants can suck the water from the earth hatter it rains. You will get healthier plants. If there is bottoms to have a lot of holes drilled in it so water can drain out so the plants do not drown.

The mushrooms are coming from the store bought mulch. I have them in my garden too. Get some dried cow patties and crush them up for your garden fertilizer. I dug a 2' deep hole, filled it half way with cow patties and planted a couple tomatoes on top and I had a tomato tree a couple months later. I had to use 2x4 stakes to support it. Have fun!

Crystal and Gabe, there’s this thing called a beer trap that is cheap and effective at getting the critters in the slugs in the beetles and all the other stuff that’s going to eat your garden. All you gotta do is get some cheap beer or you can use expensive beer it doesn’t matter but you dig a little bit of the soil out next to your plant and you put In a shallow Tupperware and you pour beer in it and you leave it there overnight. Don’t do it if it’s raining. The yeast in the beer will attract slugs and snails and all of the shitheads that will eat the leaves off of your garden plants and they will go into the beer and they will drown. In a shallow Tupperware and you pour beer in it and you leave it there overnight. Don’t do it if it’s raining. But the yeast in the beer will attract slugs and snails and all of the critters that will eat the leaves off of your garden plants and they will go into the beer and they will drown.Try it! I guarantee you’ll be happy with the results.

Another gardening tip. Ants are beneficial as they eat other bugs that would harm your plants. Seeing ants on and around your plants is an indicator of some other bug that is potentially harming your plants. Look very closely at the bottoms of your plant leaves, green aphids are very small and can be easily missed. Ants actually milk them for their sugary secretions and when they are dried up they take them back to the nest for food.

There is a lot to learn on maders! Determent or indeterminate plants. Hybrids are usually determinate, and Hybrids are always indeterminates. Determinate plants grow to a determinate height, then bloom and produce fruit. As opposed to indeterminate plants continue to grow and produce fruit as they grow, hence the e longer vine and produce as long as the growing season. Please excuse the spelling, as I'm heading for bed.

Put your banana peels in a gallon jug fill it up with water and water your plants with it. Also you can put your banana peels around your base of the plant they are really good for tomatoes . I have a big garden every year. Coffee grounds are also very good for your plants. Your plants are looking good they just need time to grow 😊 much love from a small town in pa

hello from puerto rico, you can use the coffee that has been already used to make coffee, take the used grains and put then in the dirt. It will give them nutrients naturally, instead of using fertilizer.

I went to Crater Lake when I was young. 70 degree's and snow all around! My brother and I Loved it.
I can't wait to see you guys go fishing off Oregon coast! Hopefully you get a video or two and just enjoy it up here! Northwest coast is lovely during the summer. You might get lucky and they may give some razor clam tides!
The crab video was amazing, Your picture does not do him justice with how huge he was.
Can't wait for the next video! Thank you for posting.

I use fish in my garden for fertilizer. When you bury the fish, cover them in garden lime. It will keep the critters away. Also, pogies are the best for fertilizer.

Next time you use fish parts in your garden about 18 inches deep and then spread half an inch of mason's sand on top before you put the soil over it😊

    Crater Lake ✅
When you grow up in southern Oregon as I did you go to Crater Lake every year for field trips. It is amazing the first few times you see it. Eventually it becomes a long drive for a hole in the ground.

My wife and I planted seeds from grocery store tomatos once. We had the biggest most lush tomato plants ever. Not one tomato from 4 or 5 plants. The seed companies have GMO'ed the seeds to make the second generation sterile so farmers have to buy new seeds every year and can't just save seeds from year to year.

I would take all the fish scraps from your catches throw them in a 5 gallon bucket let them ferment for about six months, reduce with water and use that as a natural fertilizer fisher the best anything we catch we bury at the base of entry tomato plant and it’s amazing
