April 3, 1976 - 45 Years Ago Today: Diana Ross debuted at No. 78 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with her single, "Love Hangover." The Marilyn McLeod/Pam Sawyer-penned single was a huge success at the price of reducing her previous single harm due to The 5th Dimension also releasing their version of "Love Hangover" the same day and Motown didn't want the quintet to have a jump on Ross's success. It paid off. While Diana's current single, "I Thought It Took A Little Time (But Today I Fell In Love)" was released just two weeks prior, it failed to hit the Top 40 and stalled at No. 47 while radio embraced the current disco trend with "Love Hangover," and basically shelved the previous release. Ross's "Love Hangover," began a two-week run at No. 1 on May 29, 1976 and a single week on the Billboard R&B Chart becoming Ross's fourth Hot 100 solo chart-topper and second solo chart-topper on the R&B Chart. Diana Ross was the recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
