It was very convincing to see on the scope the lure doing exactly as Ron described, open bail vertical fall and all. There could even be some use for that open bail decent in bank fishing.
Love the solo stuff but I am really digging these videos with Ron. And it's great when you are learning or improving on a new technique. It's like we are learning along with you. I bought a few spoons but have yet to use them. I'm excited to give it a try now. Thanks Gabe.
Thank you for sharing great information. I will be trying out this info later today. I know spoons catch fish and this is a technique I haven't explored yet.
I swear I never do this, but I’ve been super sick the past 2 weeks. A rule I have is to catch at least one bass every month so I have to get out when the weather sucks. I am totally spot burning since I live about 2 minutes from this lake and running out there with a spoon, going to scope one fish and come back home 😂 great video man
Great video as usual. Almost missed this one until you mentioned it in the Monday night livestream. Old Ron was keeping you busy! Liked the views on the electronics but you don't get to fish! Also, at 16:14, part of the "allure" of flutter spoons. Nothing like a good fishing pun!
Good video Gabe, I have a whole box of spoons and blades for this time of year. You can use your line size to adjust your drop speed, which can make a big difference some day. Also if fishing deep, a braid to floro leader might be the ticket that day.
That's one if the cool things about his retrieve...jerking up with braiding the wind gets it wrapped around the tip but the reeling is going to stop that.
Great information ,like you said old baits still work. How about blade baits like silver buddy when would one be better than the other. Great vid thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Don't remember water temp exactly but probably low 50's. Best temp range is 50-60 but it works in the summer too.Just have to find the right scenario.
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing. Do you ever use a hair jig instead of the spoon in winter? What's a good spoon and weights? It looks like I'll be losing a lot of them. If you do switch off with a hair jig...one you prefer. This is going to be so cool, I hate that drop shot.
Lake Fork makes a decent spoon, something 3.75 to 4 inches and 3/4 Oz is my go to. You can also order spoon blanks from several outlets. I am currently trying to learn the hair jig
I like the fact that you get someone that knows their stuff to share the info. We all can’t be experts in all areas. I appreciate what you do.
Thanks Jeff. It's good to have these videos to learn from and as a refresher course.
Truly one of the best videos I've seen. Love your content.
Appreciate the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it!
RD is such a great teacher. He's living his best life with that spoon rod. 🟦🟦☺️
Happy camper.
Good show. I like his method a lot better than all that stroking. Going to give it a try.👍
Thanks. Much easier on the shoulders this way.
Great video and great information! He fishes that spoon a lot like most people fish a hair jig! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks. Yup It's a lot less taxing on the shoulder. Welcome
It was very convincing to see on the scope the lure doing exactly as Ron described, open bail vertical fall and all. There could even be some use for that open bail decent in bank fishing.
Yes. We tried to get more forward facing sonar footage but the wind was blowing the boat around making it hard to keep the spoon in the cone.
I like this method. After the initial fall you have constant tension and can easily detect strikes. Thanks for the info!
It takes a little practice to get the feel of it all. It's easier on the shoulders. Thanks
Great tips! Spoon fishing can be a blast!
Agree. It's crazy fun when you hit it right
Ron a great guy sharing his experience. Love the videos. Now I want to try spoon fish.
He does a great job explaining things. Go try it.
Awesome! Great tips. Thank you!
Welcome Mark.
Good Spoon fishing video. Thanks!

Just started spoon fishing, and I love it. Thank you for this video

Great stuff Gabe. Love this step by step tutorial! Uncle Ron is a strong add to your channel!
Thanks Joe. Look for Ron in upcoming videos. Agree 100% with you.

I like it man. Hope you caught one and wishing you a speedy recovery

Glad you enjoyed it. Ron is a great teacher. Glad you caught the pun 😀
Great video! Always wanted to try the spoon.
Thanks buddy. Hope all is well.
@@TheTinHorseMonty hope all is well with you too! Stay warm, this winter storm is a cold one!
@@codydulmes804 Thanks
Good tips, think I'd be snagging a lot though with that treble laying on the bottom.
It rarely gets snagged unless it comes in contact with wood.
Red hook is a plus for me!
Good tip !
🤘

Great Tips !!! THX
Welcome. Ron did a great job.
Ever use braid instead of the split ring(s)? Really helps prevent the fish from throwing it
I have not used braid. I know some people do it n it makes sense. May try it if I start loosing fish. Thanks for the tip!
@TheTinHorseMonty those double split rings really help. Omnia did a pretty cool video a while back on the braid
Great content. 1 Problem. I'd have to put my crappie rod down. Tough to do this time of year.
Totally understand. Crappie are becoming my 2nd favorite fish. They cooperate a lot better than bass.
Great videos! side note, you remind me of Rob Van Winkle 👍🏼
Ice Ice baby.
Great information ,like you said old baits still work. How about blade baits like silver buddy when would one be better than the other. Great vid thanks for sharing.
Blade baits will work in same situations
Thanks Bill. I've caught some using a blade bait in the same scenario. Good call n suggestion.
I've been using a jigging spoon for walleye, wonder how this would do.
What's up buddy. It will work on walleye if you find a school of them.
That’s the the way l fish a feather preacher jig or a big Scrounger head on Kentucky lake 👍👍
Same.
What was water temperature? Great videos thank you Ron.
Well done as always. Tnx for sharing
Low 50s
👍
What about a treble on the front of the spoon also?
Yes, a stinger hook can work
I haven't used one with a front hook or put one on. They usually get it.
The rod id nrx 893?
Not sure. It's Ron's rod. I'm scared to touch it $$$$ LOL
Correct
Great video! What was the water temp that day and what tem range do you recommend this technique?
Thanks. Don't remember water temp exactly but probably low 50's. Best temp range is 50-60 but it works in the summer too.Just have to find the right scenario.
Ron mentioned like 3 sizes can you tell me what they were? New year coming time o learn a new method.
Basically a 5", 4" and 3". 1 1/4 oz,, 3/4 oz and 1/2 oz. 4" is the most versatile.
Great video! A spoon is one of my favorites. Please do another showing catches on the live target
Ok I'm working on a LiveScope video.

I fish a hair jig on occasion. I like the Cumberland Pro Lures Prayer Jig.
Thanks for the great video, what size fluorocarbon were you using?
Thanks David. 15 lb
What depths of the bottom is prime
Our lakes it seems to be 25 to 35 ft
What Ron said. Really any depth you find the fish.
Good video! What brand flutter spoon are you using? Have had good luck the Jewel scuba spoon on Bull Shoals
A spoon I built, blanks at places like LureParts
Scuba Spoon is a good one but that's more of a jigging spoon.
@@TheTinHorseMonty Exactly, thats why I was wondering what flutter bait he was using...need a few!
Hey Gabe what GL rod is he using? Great video btw
Thanks. Probably an NRX
Yea kinda like the jig bite
Kinda
Can you troll with them?
I think you could troll with this model spoon but I would move up to the heavier version
Forget forage size, the Magnums catch all sizes of fish and it's all they will bite at times. Don't limit yourself!
Thanks.
like hearing from people that know.
Ron's the spoon man.
great video. explained the technique never well
Glad you liked it. Hope it helps.
