Bethesda writing consists of retcons and unironic patriotism despite the fact that Fallout was conceived to be a satire of jingoistic patriotism. And if you're not playing the game for the writing, well, you picked the wrong franchise; Fallout never had good combat. I'm amazed Bethesda didn't commit to thinking that the Enclave were the good guys with the way they wrote Fallout 4.

Realistically, when a Fallout 4/3 criticises New Vegas. The New Vegas fan makes an 8 hour video explaining why they are wrong. The Fallout 3/4 fan will then proceed to make a comment that’ll take 5 seconds to read and include the words “toxic”, “fanboy” and a few other words RUclips no longer considers polite.

Their cards being a bluff sure. I mean, the environment is boring (but it's supposed to be a desert 😭), combat was not improved or changed from fallout 3, constant crashes regardless of system, bugs galore, poor quality graphics (honestly it's similar with Oblivion but with like 5 more polygons). The only redeeming quality is the story, and if you don't recall when it was first released... it was a pretty mediocre game.

Since I've started the fallout series from 4 I do obviously prefer the mechanics and everything but I still respect 3 and new vegas but I still think you should be able to run.
I play 4 for the combat. I play 3 for the environment. I play NV for the writing. Three ingredients that taste good on their own. It's like the ingredients for pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni is good and you can eat those alone. The cheese is good, and you can also eat it alone. The sauce is good, and if you want you can eat it alone as well. But when you mix them together, maybe add in some extra herbs and spices to make it perfect, and cook it thoroughly, you now have a delicious pizza all to yourself. That's what 5 should be. Goddammit, now I want pizza.

since we have to wait like 10 years for fallout 5, imagine how much better the graphics will also be. It'll be the perfect fallout game, if they take advice and work with obsidian again; great graphics, great story, great combat. then again that's 10 whole years
Also the combat sucks. For all the flaws of Fallout 4, it is the only one with combat that I've enjoyed. RPG is still the worst of the franchise though, which is ultimately why people love NV
@@AmericanZergling Played the combat of all modern Fallouts, and that's a hard disagree from me. F4's combat takes some serious licks from having insanely bullet sponge enemies, less weapon variety, repetitive dungeon crawls, badly-designed enemy placement in the world, and the gunplay isn't much of an upgrade. NV's combat shows its age, but shows plenty of thought was put into the enemies and weapons. Fallout 4..., seems to continue its theme of lack of thought carried by newer technology behind the game.
@@Batdude36 fallout NV you actually need to use VATs for the most part keeping the spirit of the tactical turn based energy from the originals. in FO4 vats is next to worthless essentially dumbing down the game even further.
@@Batdude36 Dude, fallout 3 and NV combat sucks. They are the worst combat in the franchise, trying to mix real time combat with turn based combat was a bad idea then as it was now. I personally don't like turn based combat in general, so I'm already biased here. But realizing that putting guns into the Oblivion engine doesn't work, then trying to make it work via VATS is not and never was good. The original Fallouts are all turn-based, so they work. I personally find it slow, boring, and tedious, but I can understand people who like it. Fallout 4 is bullet spongy, sure, but like every game in the franchise I wouldn't play it without mods, and there are plenty of mods out there that rebalance enemies. My point with Fallout 4's combat was its mechanics, it feels much better to shoot guns and fight enemies in 4 than 3 or NV.

@@toxiccorgi2108 And yet F4, 76, Skyrim, and 3 are all inferior games in regards to writing and RPG mechanics, while gameplay is not much of an upgrade even in the newer ones, despite having more development time, regardless of the reasons for why it was shorter. Something you cannot say is false

This was pretty much my experience also, Fallout 4 was grindy as an mmo and was fun but felt tedious after a while. Fallout 3 was kind of a mess to play and not a hot fun mess like New Vegas. Playing Fallout New Vegas is like discovering a gold mine of fun and the deeper you dig the more fun you find. The heartbreaking part of New Vegas is the crashes and I know I should learn how to install the addon to help it but I look at the directions and my eyes glaze over.

Funniest Part of this? Despite its well known crashing, Base Game FNV never crashed or bugged out for me when I played it. It's a small miracle offset by the crashing from a fair to many mods I then installed.
Tbh, out of all of the fallout games, NV does the best job for having a region accurate map, not so much for terrain, but for aspects like geology and flora types that can grow there, it has some pretty high points.
76 also does an amazing job at capturing local hotpoints, like Berkeley Springs, The Harpers Ferry Armory, and the white springs hotel look like they were lifted right outta real life its awesome
The best parts of 3 are its setting, which actually has personality to it, and how that plays into the game's strengths of exploration and discovery. Ruins of D.C. speak volumes in ambiance and environmental storytelling that the Mojave doesn't (and at times can't). That aside, New Vegas does well with improving upon the gameplay mechanics in 3, and its story is more consistent (despite all but one ending being ME3 "pick your color/flavor of ending", with how the Mojave is ruled by a shitty tyrannical and/or imperialistic force). Best parts of New Vegas are the DLC.
one of my fav scenes in all of spongebob is after this part where patrick gets grabbed by the lasso and yells sponnnngebooooooob into the distance then fittingly to this video, get mushroom clouded over the horizon. glorious
You know, 3 had a special place in my heart. My brother was in the service and I was home but we’d connect over 360 when he had the time. He’d tell me about this game he played (FO3) and described it in such a way that my imagination flew all over the place. He came home on leave and got me a copy and it was a blast! He watched the choices I made, watched me play the game for nights straight and even after everything below, I still love what I had back then. Over the years, I was a die-hard 3 fan, but he preferred new Vegas. I just couldn’t get into new Vegas and I couldn’t put my finger on it. We both loved 4 when it came out, but after a while, he lost interest. We started watching lore videos, game stuff from the first two fallouts and we began asking stuff like “why are super mutants in DC?” “Why the enclave?” “Why the brotherhood of steel?” “How could a vault replicate the FEV? Why not make it something else?” And with a lot of the inconsistencies that 3 and four had, we questioned writing choices entirely from Mr. Pagliarulo’s side. I gave New Vegas a try and took off running with it! The dialogue, the writing, the conflict, it all just felt so much better. I was sad because I grew somewhat disillusioned of these games I used to swear by but my brother told me something that can apply to every fandom. “You can still love something and be critical to it. That just proves you are willing to see the flaws in the things you love and appreciate them more for the good things you like but not be blind to the problems.” To this day, I’ll still play NV and Skyrim modded. Just wish 4 took off like Skyrim did, in terms of mods and what not.
Same here, at a GameStop me and my brother made a pivotal choice in a game to purchase between Fallout 3 and Mass Effect, A friend of mine had previously talked about fallout 3 and I was fascinated so I suggested that. When we got home I watched as he played through 3 and it was a blast, we did the same with New Vegas, I would always cut up some cucumbers and put lime and chili powder on it that was my go to New Vegas snack when I would watch him. He eventually moved out of the house and I was alone to experience the games on my own I played through fallout 3 and New Vegas respectively and enjoyed them both eventually moving on to playing them on my PC and then modded later in life. I really enjoyed Fallout 4 the first playthrough but after a while the same inconsistencies caught up with me as well, but by that time I was playing modded Fallout 4 (as I had about a couple thousand hours in NV and 3) and found that 4's gunplay lent it self to being the most fun for me to mod. I am curious though did you and your brother ever play Fallout 76, it sure was rough especially having to play it on console with my brother but the thought that finally both of us could play a Fallout game together was good enough and we did have some great times.
@captain, Me and my brother honestly didn’t want much of 76 because of all the stigmas and problems on release. Most of all was the kind of Story contradictions it made. In concept, it was something we were excited for but after all the hoopla with its release, and with 4 kind of leaving a sour taste, we just stuck to new Vegas and other titles. I may give it a go cuz I have friends who want me to try it haha, but my bro doesn’t play pc, so he sticks to other stuff. @chewy they had to work with what they were given, too. The writers for NV, Obsidian, were actually different writers from 3 and 4 and wrote more true to the story with something more credible while 3 and 4 just seemed more like.. fan service over logic. Even skyrim has a lot of writing problems with its narrative, character writing, and faction handling. The best part of these games, nowadays, are the community, fixing dev problems Some people try to point at NV for crashes when it’s just Bethesda’s engine. Personally, skyrim and fallout 4 (vanilla) has given me the most crashes out of all of them and that’s just for my entirety of several years playing. I’m so glad the community pitches in to make the games more stable and more fun to play. Hell, I’m even about to give Cyberpunk a chance, so I may try 76 a shot too.
I appreciate that you didn’t grow to hate 4. I tried getting into NV back in the day, but I kind of got bored of it. To me it felt a bit clunky. Was the writing and role play aspect great? Absolutely. But I didn’t get really drawn into the story. I only enjoyed watching videos on the lore of New Vegas instead of playing it. For 4, I just loved playing the game. I even liked the voiced protagonist. It made me feel more attached to my character and care more about the main quest. For NV, I just didn’t have any real drive or direction. I recognize that many loved NV, but I don’t think that disqualifies the fact that 3 and 4 had a lot of great things going for it too. Hopefully in 5 they’ll be able to blend the best qualities of all of them.
Just as soon as the game reaches its best point, it crashes.

To the town of Agua Fria
Rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him
Didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business
No one dared to make a slip
For the stranger there among them
Had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
It was early in the morning
When he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side
Slowly looking all around
"He's an outlaw loose and running"
Came the whisper from each lip
"And he's here to do some business
With the big iron on his hip"
Big iron on his hip
In this town there lived an outlaw
By the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him
And that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer
Though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol
Numbered one and nineteen more
One and nineteen moreNow the stranger started talking
Made it plain to folks around
He was an Arizona ranger
Wouldn't be too long in town
He came here to take an outlaw
Back alive, or maybe dead
And he said it didn't matter;
He was after Texas Red
After Texas Red
Wasn't long before the story
Was relayed to Texas Red
But the outlaw didn't worry -
Men that tried before were dead
Twenty men had tried to take him
Twenty men had made a slip
Twenty-one would be the ranger
With the big iron on his hip

It was time for them to meet
It was twenty past eleven
When they walked out in the Street
Folks were watching from the windows
Everybody held their breath
They knew this handsome ranger
Was about to meet his death
About to meet his death There was forty feet between them
When they stopped to make their play
And the swiftness of the ranger
Is still talked about today
Texas Red had not cleared leather
'Fore a bullet fairly ripped
And the ranger's aim was deadly
With the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
It was over in a moment
And the folks had gathered round
There before them lay the body
Of the outlaw on the ground
Oh, he might have went on living

To the town of Agua Fria
Rode a stranger one fine day
Hardly spoke to folks around him
Didn't have too much to say
No one dared to ask his business
No one dared to make a slip
For the stranger there among them
Had a big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
It was early in the morning
When he rode into the town
He came riding from the south side
Slowly looking all around
"He's an outlaw loose and running"
Came the whisper from each lip
"And he's here to do some business
With the big iron on his hip"
Big iron on his hip
In this town there lived an outlaw
By the name of Texas Red
Many men had tried to take him
And that many men were dead
He was vicious and a killer
Though a youth of twenty four
And the notches on his pistol
Numbered one and nineteen more
One and nineteen moreNow the stranger started talking
Made it plain to folks around
He was an Arizona ranger
Wouldn't be too long in town
He came here to take an outlaw
Back alive, or maybe dead
And he said it didn't matter;
He was after Texas Red
After Texas Red
Wasn't long before the story
Was relayed to Texas Red
But the outlaw didn't worry -
Men that tried before were dead
Twenty men had tried to take him
Twenty men had made a slip
Twenty-one would be the ranger
With the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
The morning passed so quickly;
It was time for them to meet
It was twenty past eleven
When they walked out in the Street
Folks were watching from the windows
Everybody held their breath
They knew this handsome ranger
Was about to meet his death
About to meet his death There was forty feet between them
When they stopped to make their play
And the swiftness of the ranger
Is still talked about today
Texas Red had not cleared leather
'Fore a bullet fairly ripped
And the ranger's aim was deadly
With the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
It was over in a moment
And the folks had gathered round
There before them lay the body
Of the outlaw on the ground
Oh, he might have went on living
But he made one fatal slip
When he tried to match the ranger
With the big iron on his hip
Big iron on his hip
Big iron, big iron
When he tried to match the ranger

Realistically, when a Fallout 4/3 criticises New Vegas. The New Vegas fan makes an 8 hour video explaining why they are wrong.
The Fallout 3/4 fan will then proceed to make a comment that’ll take 5 seconds to read and include the words “toxic”, “fanboy” and a few other words RUclips no longer considers polite.

That's what 5 should be.

since we have to wait like 10 years for fallout 5, imagine how much better the graphics will also be. It'll be the perfect fallout game, if they take advice and work with obsidian again; great graphics, great story, great combat.
then again that's 10 whole years
“I’m not playing that game the graphics are old”
Also the combat sucks. For all the flaws of Fallout 4, it is the only one with combat that I've enjoyed. RPG is still the worst of the franchise though, which is ultimately why people love NV
Good graphics = good game type logic

Ok but for real. When you deal with crashes so often and still emjoy the game. That tells you something
It also captures real life places really good. When I played i thought most of the towns are fictional I was really shocked to find out those are real
It's basically just all orange dust and dirt. Except that super mutant town.
76 also does an amazing job at capturing local hotpoints, like Berkeley Springs, The Harpers Ferry Armory, and the white springs hotel look like they were lifted right outta real life its awesome

The best part of 3, is that it is the basis of New Vegas
The best parts of 3 are its setting, which actually has personality to it, and how that plays into the game's strengths of exploration and discovery. Ruins of D.C. speak volumes in ambiance and environmental storytelling that the Mojave doesn't (and at times can't).
That aside, New Vegas does well with improving upon the gameplay mechanics in 3, and its story is more consistent (despite all but one ending being ME3 "pick your color/flavor of ending", with how the Mojave is ruled by a shitty tyrannical and/or imperialistic force).
Best parts of New Vegas are the DLC.

That just proves you are willing to see the flaws in the things you love and appreciate them more for the good things you like but not be blind to the problems.”
To this day, I’ll still play NV and Skyrim modded.
I don't hate on number three but you can tell they took notes from it when they made New Vegas and that's why New Vegas is better
The best part of these games, nowadays, are the community, fixing dev problems
Some people try to point at NV for crashes when it’s just Bethesda’s engine.
@@ChewyChicken589 yeah, they took the good parts from 3, got rid of the bad parts and put even more good in.
