Active and passive transducers:
Active transducers are devices that require an external power source to operate and produce an output signal that is a function of the input and the external power. Examples of active transducers include thermocouples and photovoltaic cells. Passive transducers, on the other hand, do not require an external power source and produce an output signal that is solely a function of the input. An example of a passive transducer is the thermistor, which changes its resistance with temperature.
