Fun fact: The creator of this game made it using themes from his personal life, dealing with OCD and depression. A lot of the OCD influences show up in the form of little details in the background being off, things that only certain people will notice and be bothered by. For instance, the bible verse found early in the game is actually numbered as the wrong Psalm. It says its Psalm 21 when it is actually the words of Psalm 22. Little things like this are scattered throughout the game to simulate the feeling that something isn't right.

Things you imagine ARE more scary than things you can see. The only exception is phobias. If you're phobia is clowns, for example, you'd be scared if you were in a dark room with something growling but you would be TERRIFIED if there was a clown in your room even if all the lights were on.

Please, someone out there, anybody. Please tell me that somebody remembers that old campfire horror story that was called the porcelain doll. It was a story about A man buying a porcelain doll for his children, the porcelain doll then comes to life and asks each sleeping child individually to play with it. I do believe the exact words were play with me, play with me, play with me or I will kill you. When the sleeping children refused to answer, that being said they were asleep, the doll then killed the children in skin them alive. The porcelain doll had a small plastic dagger that, for each child, would change into a different type of metal. The doll and then use the dagger to skin the children alive and kill them. The story ends when the porcelain doll goes to the parents room, skins and kills the mother, and says the same thing to the father. This time the father wakes up and quickly realizes what happened. Luckily the father thought fast and asked to the porcelain doll if it would like to play hide and seek. The doll quickly agreed and the man told the daughter get back inside of the box it came from and count to 200. It all gets back inside of the box and the man quickly runs to his garage and grabs a chain and lock in chains and locks the box closed. He then takes the porcelain doll back to the store where he bought it from. Once it is return to the store, a different man comes in to the store looking for a present for his children and buys the porcelain doll. Needless to say, you can guess what happens next. But I must know, does anybody remember that old campfire horror story. I was told that story in great detail when I was very young. It gave me nightmares for years. Luckily I'm over it now.

OCD is not necessarily repetition and tidiness. The self mutilation scenes are more likely to be representative of ODC. There could be more symbolism as well, but I didn't notice, since I wasn't trying to look for it until that was brought up in the end.

There is a way to control your dreams or at least have some control. I've been doing it since I was a kid and now I litteraly have INFINITE possibilities with my dreams. You know how you lay down in bed and you close your eyes, ready to sleep, but you feel like your arm is itchy or your in an uncomfortable spot so you want to shift around, don't. Use pure willpower to overcome this, and when you eventually go to sleep, you'll have so much self control. Of course it won't happen the first time, like you'll be able to say what you want but that's about it. IN about a month or so, you'll have complete control, I tested this theory on my older brother and sister a few months back and they can remember not just one, but multiple dreams (cuz you have hundreds of dreams but you only end up remembering one or two) and they were able to control their actions. It's pretty cool

It was so bad that even in some games I'd be scared of dark areas. I don't know exactly what happened, but one day I just didn't give a damn anymore. I can confirm that if when one suffers from depression and is going through a depressive mood stage, it is literally this terrible symbolic terrifying and dark. Especially when must be hospitalized for it.
I agree with you, Matt, about the fear of the unknown being more than actually seeing a monster. UNLESS you have a specific phobia or monster you fear, for example with me it's aliens (the tall humanoid grey ones with big black eyes), and a game/movie with those in it would absolutely terrify me.

Danae Drei Yeah that's what helped me get over zombies/corpses. Once (I was about 7) really early in the morning before my parents were awake I tried watching a zombie movie, and it scared me so much. But then I was about 13 and I played the Last Of Us. I know the infected in that game are not zombies but they are close to zombies (look and act like them) so it got me over that fear!

There is a way to control your dreams or at least have some control. I've been doing it since I was a kid and now I litteraly have INFINITE possibilities with my dreams. You know how you lay down in bed and you close your eyes, ready to sleep, but you feel like your arm is itchy or your in an uncomfortable spot so you want to shift around, don't. Use pure willpower to overcome this, and when you eventually go to sleep, you'll have so much self control. Of course it won't happen the first time, like you'll be able to say what you want but that's about it. IN about a month or so, you'll have complete control, I tested this theory on my older brother and sister a few months back and they can remember not just one, but multiple dreams (cuz you have hundreds of dreams but you only end up remembering one or two) and they were able to control their actions. It's pretty cool

1:02:26 I actually used to be terrified of the dark, and did the Light Chain thing, as well. I called it my "Glow Road" (Like the Yellow Brick Road). It was so bad that even in some games I'd be scared of dark areas. I don't know exactly what happened, but one day I just didn't give a damn anymore. I literally ignore the lights going up-and-downstairs to reach the fridge juuuuuust because I am lazy as hell and know the layout exactly. I just need to feel for where the steps end.

When I watched this for the first time a few years ago, the vein pulling part was horrifying and hard to watch. Now, I can watch it much easier. Not even kidding, it's not hard for me to see gore anymore.

I can confirm that if when one suffers from depression and is going through a depressive mood stage, it is literally this terrible symbolic terrifying and dark. Especially when must be hospitalized for it.
I agree with you, Matt, about the fear of the unknown being more than actually seeing a monster. UNLESS you have a specific phobia or monster you fear, for example with me it's aliens (the tall humanoid grey ones with big black eyes), and a game/movie with those in it would absolutely terrify me.

Danae Drei Yeah that's what helped me get over zombies/corpses. Once (I was about 7) really early in the morning before my parents were awake I tried watching a zombie movie, and it scared me so much. But then I was about 13 and I played the Last Of Us. I know the infected in that game are not zombies but they are close to zombies (look and act like them) so it got me over that fear!
