    Riley Leonard might have gained some praise if our RBs couldnt gain traction but his 3 rushing TD have no relevance in his abilty to lead this team to and through the playoffs.
    Love and Price handled the ground game just fine. Leonard should have been working on his passing game rather than doing what Love and Price were already doing.

    Boiler fan here - The Irish scored touchdowns even without trying! Irish looked as though they knew what my Boilers wanted to do better than my Boilers - and even third and fourth shelf Irish were just playing as if my guys were a randomly selected team from the stands. Hats off, the Irish kids stepped up after their last frustrating game. Here's to your team maintaining THAT poise the rest of the season. Haha can my Boilers recreate that Irish rebound ability?

    Random Thoughts: 1.Leonard is not a passer and when he faces a stiff defense the Irish become one dimensional. 2. Angeli is a much better passer, but is prone to sacks. 3. Irish have two QB's with differing skill sets and needs to use both if they want to make a run. I'm not a fan of a 2 QB system, and yet, this is where we are.

      I think the biggest issue is simply losing guys -- 3 now -- who were determined by the coaches to be the best guys for their position. That isn't a small thing. But, as you correctly point out, ND has depth of talent on the OL. My concern is about 2 things: 1) ND is down 3 projected OL starters already, and that is a hit; and 2) with every guy going down, the depth gets thinner and thinner. So, I think there is justifiable concern. But for the time being, ND has talented guys to plug the gaps. Which is good. But is it championship good? I guess ND needs to work on that as the season moves forward.

    I appreciate how Riley can create on his own, but I still don't think he's seeing the field! He looks uncomfortable when scanning/checking down, and therefore resorts to taking off with the ball. I don't think that's going to work all season. I'm just glad he hasn't been injured worse so far.
    Angeli isn't as mobile for sure, but I think he looked more poised in the pocket, and frankly is a better passer. I know they won't start Steve as long as LR is healthy. I get it. Still, I think he looks more comfortable than LR when looking downfield. It's only been 3 games, so... we'll see. Thanks Tyler. Have a great week. Go Irish!

    Only thing this game proved was that ND was not prepared to play N Ill in anyway shape or form. Let's see how they are prepared week to week. They have to maintain their focus every game. Every game is a measuring stick and regardless of what they do they will never get that N Ill game back. This upcoming game should be similar to Purdue, then let's see what they do against Lville. Another note if Leonard's shoulder is hurt, why are they running plays for him to run the ball, last thing he should be doing is running unless he is forced to.

    • @Dimwitland
      @Dimwitland День назад

      You are right about NIU, that is absolutely so in that particular case, but the portal, NIL and the general flow of skill and ability to those who can afford to pay for it is generally a current against which swimming is going to become more and more difficult.
      Paying close attention to where players are coming from when teams are reaching down in the portal when nothing else offers, makes it clear that this is the updraft becoming, faster and stronger, and certainly more widespread. As fun as NIU is for whoever is cheering for them, they are likely a dying breed, and outlier results will become rarer and rarer. A shame really, because to me, unpredictability is a core value of college football. Enjoy it for what it is. Another thing that is inexorably changing with the new reality of professional upper division college football.

    • @RyanDooley55
      @RyanDooley55 День назад

      @@Dimwitland I disagree with you. I think the portal and NIL money has made so many players move around from top programs that it has actually helped some smaller schools like NIU. NIU has seniors on the team that were coached and developed by NIU. At the start of the game the announcers actually talked about how NIU has only lost a few guys to the portal. When ND has a lot of players from other teams I think it has caused more problems for beginning of the year games. Playing together for years probably has something to do with that win.
      I do appreciate your analysis, I think most of these guys were looked over and never thought about again. Therefore, NIU developed them traditionally instead of being poached by bigger schools”

      As I have said, unpredictability is a core value of College Football.
      It envisions and sanctifies the concepts of underdog, the good old college try, school spirit, and rivalry.
      That on any one given day, who beats who is not pre-determined, and the scales can be tipped by those things we can control; like scheme, training, conditioning, and those we can't. Like the things I named above. Like the weather. Like injury, and whether the injured will take themselves out of the game or the coaches' will to do so is strong enough to do so when the player won't.
      Like hubris.
      Its a tough lesson to learn, when success has come knocking.
