Good news: There is an software update, WF-1000XM5 Version 2.0.1 seems like it fixed the distortion in the microphone sound.
I've watched 4 or 5 reviews of these TWS IEMs and yours is the most comprehensive and complete.

Sound quality, battery life, microphone quality, ANC, Transparency mode, app integration and the quality of various music genres, as well as video sync and podcast/audio book quality are all use cases and areas of importance. New Sub
I agree, the best review so far, but I would also like to know how they are with latency (or sync) with TV or games and also how they are when exercising. Particularly compared to AirPods Pro.

feels like the xm4 - a lot of things are great but when you use them its not all that convenient, specially compared to airpod pro 2. great review, very informative, thanks!
Which one would you choose for long flights?
I was considering those as upgrade from AirPods Pro 1. I was able to try dummies in the shop (not functional) just for the feel and I noticed that even delicate accidental bump with the hand from below in upwards direction can easily dislodge those from my ear - this due to their rounded buds shape. So despite looking nice (especially the black ones) the secure fit in the ear is better for me with the AirPods Pro. Also using other Apple devices I must admit that I'm inclining to AirPods Pro 2 as my next upgrade. Still it is tempting that those sound so good. Just wonder in what way it is due to the memory foam tips, and how long will those last? Thanks for another honest and informative review!
it really amazes me to see how they are still lacking behind the AirPods on the mic quality generation after generation. I wonder how they will perform in a noisy environment.
I want to see a comparison between the xm5 and the sennheiser momentum tw3.
How do they compare to the Sennheiser momentum TW3s?
My Sony WF-1000XM4 left bud battery was dead after 176 hours. That model had a lot of problems, just google it. Most of the problem is related to battery life. I'm not sure if sony fixed battery issue in new model :D Think twice before you buy or get extended warranty!
True, it's a common failure mode, one the batteries overheats and then fails by lasting less than an hour of audio. I got mine replaced because I was still under warranty and they work great again. But once they fail again (because it will happen), I won't get a new pair a xm4s.
Same thing started to happen to my pair and the worst part is that I started it notice the battry drain just 1 day after my warranty expired (not saying that they made it this way, I just got unlucky) also they were really large in my ear. This really bothered me as I usually keep my palm I've my ear while chilling.
I hope this new version preforms better.
Mine has the issues after 8 months. Sony replaced the buds but the replaced ones didn't have a good sound quality
yeah i have sent mine like 4 times to sony and they said there is no problem with my wf-1000xm4s. Really dissapointed from sony. Also they dont sound like 250€
I didn't have any battery problems with my earbuds. One can also use Apple music Dolby Atmos and it sounds all great and balanced

Great review, the XM5 mic's sound aweful though, personally think it's not good enough for (conference) calls
I am still using WF-1000XM3 😮 they still intact since years ago. I just changed their batteries 2 years ago, however, 😅 they seem need to be batteries change again because they can't withstand more than 1 Hour and a half in full usage 😅 They are indeed one of the best for Sound quality, ture it is another experience listening to sounds and songs with them 👌🏽👍

Hello recently i purchase WF1000XM5.I have allready WF1000XM4.I noticed that with WF1000XM5 the increase/raise volume has been assosiated with separate unit.With WF1000XM 4 i can both of increase/raise do with the same unit.With 1000xm5 i can't assosiate both of the functions with the same unit?And if i use one unit for listening music????Can i increase or raise the volume from one unit or not?

@@deykno87 obviously. But how much better is the question. $300 is a lot of money to spend on disposable tech. If these are better by 10-20% then these are not worth the money IMO.

Would like the comparison to the XM4. I have those and they suck. A lot of money for a set of earplugs which are Heavey and big and fall out of my ear all the time. And if you loose these rubber tips, you can not get new ones from Sony. Now I love the Sony products, I have the photo and Videocameras and a lot of lenses but the service from Sony is very disappointing. What is your experience with the service of Sony?
Momentum TW3 are better than XM4. Are they better than XM5 too?
That's the reason I bought the sennheiser. Their sound is just so much better than sonys canny sound. I was a huge Sony fan back in the 90s/2000s and had all top wired Sony earbuds. Till I got my hands on some sennheiser wired ones. Then I realized what I was missing out on. It still hasn't changed. Sennheiser always outshines Sony in sound when it comes to any type of headphone. Same with momentum 4 over ear headphones. I've tried so many different ones. Still ended up with Sennheiser. And I will stick with them. Only thing I still hope one day Sennheiser will include LDAC.
@@yourAVGconsumer I had XM4 earbuds but they stopped working. I liked them with spatial audio. I just couldn’t have them on for too long because they were very uncomfortable… and I’m not sensitive. I have Grado headphones , but these earbuds were painful. They also needed more bass.
Momentum 3 sounds better. At first I thought the bass is too much, but EQ took care of that. They are almost as comfortable as Jabra 75. But the sound is so much better than any of these earbuds.

I think Bang & Olufsen Beoplay EX is the best sounding eurbuds. It has natural, balanced and airy sound. I don’t like Sony’s sound signature, it is too dark and too bassy for me with its flat eq setting. We’ll see how much they improve the sound quality. By the way I am sure that XM5 has the best ANC in the market.

Sony really needs to change its naming of devices, it almost seems like they are trolling us now 😂… I really like the over ear xm-5’s, but like you said the apple eco system means they do more than just one thing…. I, like you am sticking to the airpod pro 2 and my airpod max’s. Hoping that the Max’s get a refresh soon tho

So Bose ist still ANC King with its QuietComfort2 because they were so much better than Airpods Pro 2 when i tested both.

Thanks for being honest about the flaws and the strength. I think Sony's biggest problem is their pricing. For example, these should've been $50 cheaper than Airpods pro 2. This goes for pretty much every Sony product, they charge 20 - 30% more than they should. Thanks for the video, you're awesome!
Sony always drops their prices 50 to 80 bucks within a few months. Just have to patient.

But these chunky buds are not worth it. Too pricey compared to the features they offer.
You really found that the Wh-1000XM5s had worse performing noise cancellation than the earbuds? Im surprised by that.
In noise cancellation, WF and WH performs almost identical, WH may take the edge because it blocks the ear so it has the help of passive NC, but I can't tell any difference wearing them back to back testing with a constant noise like air conditioner. When it comes to transparency mode WF is way way better than WH.

The mics for the calls sound way too overdriven.
Why no one talking about sidetone issue with this device, it's horrible. People can hear everything in background on a call and sometimes even amplified.

Benim için müzik önemli bu yüzden her türlü sonyi tercih ederdim. Sennheiser kulaklıkları daha hoşuma gidiyordu ama in ear kulaklıklarda artık pek biseyler yapmıyorlar, tercihi sonyden yana kullanmak lazım.

This is why I stay with Sony! They are the only buds that help me completely block outside noise while fapping on airplanes. When security inevitably drags me off of the plane, the serene silence provided by their buds almost makes me forget that my left earbud is about to die while my right is still at 90%!

Really disappointed in the WF-1000XM4 batteries getting bricked by firmware.. was a loyal customer having also bought WF-1000XM3, WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM3 as well… after this will be moving away from Sony for good.. most likely AirPod pro and max at least apple customer service will stand by their products
I have WF1000-XM4 and all of a sudden I saw that the right earbud stopped working. The reset won’t do a thing. The case won’t charge it anymore.
I bought a replacement earbud thinking it will pair with the working earbud but it didn’t. Resetting the earbuds wasn’t successful. The case will charge the replaced earbud but it won’t allow them to pair. I wonder why and what’s the solution.
Give Sony Support a chat. They replaced both my XM4s and my wife's Linkbuds at no cost, no questions asked other than "did you try fully charging/restarting/resetting them?"
@@df98156 I did but since I bought mine a year and a half ago they said sorry, it’s out of warranty and they suggested a dealer to repair them. Not worth doing that. It’s cheaper to buy a used set.

Can’t they make a smaller case, just copy Apple’s with some modifications.
For anyone who doesn't know this, sonys 1.6.2 and 2.0.0 software update made the xm4 buds heat up to an abnormal degree while charging causing permanent battery damage for some users
Price is a bit steep at $299+ compared to Air Pods Pro at $249 or less on sale.

Sony - still the WORST post sales support on the planet.. Atrocious. Great if they work.. any issues, 2 months for a replacement, and a firmware upgrade that left mine unusable. A premium price….Woeful testing of software before releasing.
