Lt. Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) is a weapons officer aboard the destroyer USS John Paul Jones, while his older brother, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård), is the commanding officer of the USS Sampson. Unknown to Alex, Stone or the rest of the U.S. Navy, alien invaders have arrived on Earth with plans to steal Earth's resources. When a confrontation with the invaders knocks out the Navy's radar capability, American and Japanese forces must work together to find a way to save the planet.

i never really understood the hate for this movie they weren't trying to get one of those lame oscar globe things it was supposed to be dumb fun and it excels at that this movie is underrated gem

best part of the movie is when they need a crew for the old battleship and all of the old vets start crawling out of the woodworks saying "I'll do it!"

The film had great production value, as they really outdid themselves in recreating the interiors for the Arleigh Burke class destroyer, and even tbough they portrayed John Paul Jones, with a helo hanger, which was the third Flight I Burke, meaning it had no helo hanger, only the Flight IIA had the helo hanger. I was in it for the Arleigh Burke class.
The Last Ship, staring Eric Dane, also had exceptional production with their fictional Arleigh Burke class, Nathan James.
