Honey, you are my role model. You brighten my days, your smile is contagious, every time you post a video, even when I'm at my worst because of my mental illness, then everything is beautiful. Thank you 💜
This is so sweet 🥹 thank you so much 🫶🏻 I hope you’re doing ok lovely, bad brain days can be so hard 🤎
One of my favorite books to recommend heading into spooky season:
Gideon the Ninth
It’s a bit more fantasy/sci-fi than spooky, but it does definitely lean into creepy horror at times. The first book in the series is a murder mystery that takes place in a creepy castle. Book two has a lot more sci-fi horror elements. Be prepared for a little body horror in that one. And then the third book is like slice of life in a dystopian world. The fourth book will be out next year.
Fair warning, the books are pretty confusing upon first reading them. But once you figure it all out, you’ll understand it better on a reread.
Adding What Moves the Dead to the earthy gothic book section ❤ I love that one the most out of the 6 T Kingfisher books I’ve read. Again you’ve done a great job keeping your autumn recommendations fresh and timely with all the newer books you’ve been reading!
Thanks! Awesome recs.
Herbst 🍂 🍁
A wonderfully versatile list - thank you so much! 🧡🤎I just ordered Slewfoot the other day and am much looking forward!🍁
I recommend Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher. It's an earthy feeling and dark (but not too dark ) Sleeping Beauty re-telling with quite a twist, it's not too long either.
I'm reading Thornhedge right now as my first TK and I love it. Its such beautiful dark writing
Thank you for all the great recommendations for Fall and Spooky season. I’m currently reading One Dark Window by Rachel Gillig. I actually started reading the book last year and am only started reading this again. You have fast become one of my favorite BookTubers.
I'm gonna add these to my TBR for when it's Autumn for me
I love the ghost mug!! Very cozy 😊... I like the setting as well 😁 .. Great coloring for an Autumnal vibe! 👍 ❤
Thank you!! 😊 it’s autumnal all year round here 🍂
love these!!! i’m constantly searching for the eerie and atmospheric vibes that spells for forgetting and the wicked deep have given me and i think a study in drowning might be it!
I absolutely love your videos! Thank you! I have lupus SLE and lymphoma so reading is my escape. I can’t wait to read some of your recommendations
I just got The September House by Carissa Orlando, stiff by Mary Roach, The Narrow by Kate Alice Marshall, The Witchlings Girl by Helena Coggan, Not Good for Maidens by Tori Bovalino, my roommates a vampire by Jenna Levine, Mark of the wicked by Georgia Bowers, Legacy of witches by Cass Kay, The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell
My spooky autumnal season books so far have been the classics Frankenstein & Dracula, The Hacienda & Mexican Gothic. Next up are Rebecca, Slewfoot, Dark Voyage, Tender is the Flesh & The Turn of the Screw. Those I physically have and will get to, sooooo many more are noted in my TBR. It never ends! 😝
Slewfoot 🧟♀️ loved it so much thanks to you I found it x I have now got his other work so looking forward to read them 🍁 loved the witches of New York as well 🧙♀️
For spooky earthy vibes, when you said "things that are dead start moving" and "mushrooms" I immediately thought of What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher! Peak creepy mushroom vibes, I think you'd love it!
Slewfoot blew me away!!
When you mentioned The Witches of New York I was so excited because just today I started Half Spent was the Night which is Ami McKays second part of The Witches of New york. Lovely video Right on target Thank You
Hi! House of Hollow was SO dark I couldn't believe it. It was almost laughably light at first and the way it turned at the end was so unsettling. Great rec. I'd love to read that again for the first time. Also, nice to meet you! : )
🍁 You’re the absolute best at vibes like these, love it 😊
I loved House of Hollow 🍂 I am trying to decide which autumnal books to bring on the plane to Italy!
LOVE LOVE the diviners fabulous
🍁There are several of your autumn recs that I want to read, so thanks Ashleigh.🍁
🍁🍁🍁 Thank you for your recommendations!
Every time I hear about the book Morgan Is My Name, it makes me think of a book called I Am Morgan Le Fey by Nancy Springer. I’m curious if the two are similar at all (aside from them being about the same legends and characters). I never read that one, but I did read I Am Mordred by Springer. I remember enjoying it, but it’s been years since I read it. I want to check out Morgan Is My Name. It sounds fantastic
Put a hold on “Slewfoot” at my library can’t wait to read it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Would highly recommend the novella Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh, definitely felt earthy gothic to me and quickly became one of my favorite stories of all time! Uprooted by Naomi Novik has some satisfyingly earthy gothic moments too.
Have read and loved both!
@@AFrolicThroughFiction I thought you might have but couldn't resist a chance to recommend some of my faves!
Love these recommendations, Ive read most and the ones I haven't are on my TBR. These are the vibes I live for 🍁🍁
🍁can't wait for October 1st to start "The diviners"... and I took a screenshot of almost every book😂
🍂i have recently read „you let me in“ on your recommendation and i really loved it! just the vibes i wanna be reading currently🍄🍂
Love the recommendations! I had my notes app out while watching and definitely added quite a few to my tbr list. I can’t wait for autumn and spooky season! Love your videos, they have the best cozy vibes!
🍂🍁
Getting A Study in Drowning on tuesday, will definitely let you know what I think :D I plan on starting it then too!
🍂 I'm currently reading House of Hunger and oh boy does it deliver!
Great recommendations! 🎃
Love these type of recommendations videos 🧡🍄🎃
Thank you for this great recommendations vid. Love your ghost 👻 mug.
I'm looking for paranormal or urban fantasy books, like The Others, Patricia Briggs, or even Dresden Files. I do love ghosts, vamps, werewolves, and long series. They do not need to be 5 🌟 books, Ilona Andrews is a favorite too. I need more! Please 🙏
Also, chronic pain girl, fibromyalgia and neuropathy in both legs and feet from chemotherapy from stage 4 breast cancer when I was pretty young. 😊
Great list!!!
A little book I think you might enjoy is "Bodies of Water" by V.H. Leslie. another book nobody talks about ever but i thought was a really good gothic story was "House of Glass" by Susan Fletcher.
I always love your recommendatins, I now need half of them thank you!! 🥲🤍
Yayy I’m glad you like them! 🫶🏻
Great recommendations.
I loved Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon. Fungi in all the wrong places 😅
girls!!! let start a list of earthy gothic books, Soil degradation and dead earth, muddy dresses, invasive trees hanging low on houses, the wretched and sweet smell of rotten flora, fungi growing inside a room in dark corners....etc etc
I have the same mug, it’s the best mug for tea 😅 I really need to get Slewfoot but dang it seems difficult to get hold of 🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁🍂🍁
Where did you get the mug from?
@@AngelGail8 TKMax 😊
🍁 if you haven't read it before, I would recommend Lute by Jennifer Marie Thorne. Inspired by T he Wicker Man, its got good spooky vibes.
Loved this! Hunting for a contemporary euphoria-type autumnal novel that has all the fall vibes but neither romance nor horror nor fantasy lol tall order but would love to hear if you have any suggestions!
🍂🍁
🍂
uu what about spooky graphiv noveles? do you have any to reccoemnd?
Yesssss the diviners 🥰
🍁🍂
Earthly gothic is the same as folk horror I think. "The Twisted Ones" by T. Kingfisher and "The Only Good Indians"
Stephen Graham Jones fit this description.
They do overlap a lot but it’s not always folk horror! Definitely should have mentioned that in the video though aha
🍂 🍁 🍂
🍁
I'm not sure about how to describe this book, but I think you should read Based on a true story by Delphine de Vigan, it is sooo good and leaves you wondering if the story actually happened or not
🍂🍁🍂🍁
Oooo off topic from the video, but are you wearing the Emma necklace from Ana Louisa which Emma/Emmie designed? I can't quite tell because there is a glare on it, but if you are, I love her and that would be so cool!
Yes!! She had it sent to me, I haven’t had chance to mention it in a vlog yet but she’s a friend and I love that she had this chance 🥹🫶🏻
@@AFrolicThroughFiction ahhh that is so amazing! When she announced it I was so excited and just like
👁️👄👁️ lololol 😂
