- I propose a different model
That a smaller amount is put on council tax to provide Quality children’s programs
With UK values . Such as honesty, not littering ,
Teaching English , English for foreigners. Maths, science with English accents ( as opposed to American squeaky voices )
Non “sassy smart arse “ attitudes that we see in some kids tv content
We need to go back at least a decade. Where TV licence produced educational quality TV - Quality Balanced News.
I don’t think the BBC can provide that any more and others can do it cheaper and higher quality
Kids need quality TV to stop them watching trashy TV
That news content should be back to being balanced with two sides of of an argument considered again except where the other side of the argument is unlawful
Some news content should be more regional and not behind pay walls
Council decisions , spending , taxes, election results, major road works affecting areas ,
IE train fares rise.. show the commuters argument “high cost of getting to work” , and then the tax payer “subsidising train fare but has no access to trains”
Oil and gas “ emissions argument, too much plastic ” vs “ fueling economy , producing useful plastics, drains , medical tubes ”
Under my model local reporters could bid for a patch , and be paid on results of good content covering the area
I believe this could be well served in a modern world by freelancers , but the TV companies could also bid …

I refer to the BBC being fined for contempt of court :
