Early post means Mudan can get some extra sleep for the temple speedrun tomorrow. Go to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto and climb all the way to the top, it's a huge area 10/10 no regrets
Mudan: if you visit the Inari shrine, go for the full path. Most tourists turn to the exit at the first stop (where you come back also when you go on the complete path), so the rest is quite calm compared to the first loop :) . A good shopping street is nearby, but the number of tourists can be problematic there.
It's surreal seeing a RUclipsr (that makes great content) travel somewhere you've just been to. Even though it's very touristy, I still think I prefer Osaka over Tokyo. Plus the nightlife is pretty amazing.
Dude you are literally one of the most inspiring youtubers out there right now, doing daily vlogs while also working on other stuff. Also please infiltrate the Nintendo HQ and let us know what the next Nintendo console will be like.
Kyoto you say? Well… Kiyomizu Temple, Kinkakuji (The Golden Pavilion), Ryoanji Temple and rock garden, Ginkakuji (The Silver Pavilion), Daisen-in rock garden (Daitokuji Temple), Toji Temple, Mibu Temple, Honnoji Temple, Tofukuji Templ, Heian-jingu, Higashi Honganji Temple, Nanzenji, Shodenji Temple, Nishi Honganji Temple, Tenryuji Temple… seem like there’s quite a few, you might have to move fast between them… or... “speed run” some might say 🤔
I recommend Sanjuusangendou in Kyoto! It's a temple with 1001 Kannon statues and it is absolutely mesmerizing! One of the coolest places I visited during my 6 months in Japan! I don't think filming is allowed inside though :(
Must do in Kyoto is Fushimi Inari. I highly recommend you take the path to walk around the mountain to the backside and climb it from there. You'll get to see a nice bamboo forest and aesthetic graveyards and you skip all the pesky tourists!
Mudan thank you so much for listening to my suggestion and for not banning me!!! I hope you visit Cafe LA next!! Also last time I went Ben’s Cookies had more variety too so I definitely recommend going back there some time and trying out their other options too!
We also live in Japan, I am so happy that so many people are coming and visiting, but it’s starting to get overwhelming. I feel like I’m constantly being stared at everyone is in such a rush. Nobody seems to really be respecting our culture and how we are. It seems like we went from Japanese style to western since January again I’m really grateful to everybody that wants to come over and visit and enjoy our country is so beautiful, but is also super scary. But again, I’m so happy that you’re here for the whole year. You can truly experience the Japanese culture and you seem to be really enjoying it and appreciating it. This is like my favorite channel and I’ve been watching you since you were on Trash taste as a guest. I’ve been here since the start of 365 can’t wait for the rest of the journey. Good luck to you and your babysitter.😂
I think he's actually going to all the shrines & temples but not filming them out of spite 😆 But it's pretty hard to be in Kyoto and not be within arms reach of a shrine or temple so maybe we need to be eagle eyed and check the background and if we see any of them count that as a minor win and a step in the right direction 😁
Oooooo Kyoto stuff? Two of my favorite things in Kyoto were HAPPY JACK, a small record shop on a shopping street by the Kamo river, where I was able to grab a Bi Kyo Ran album, and Kichi Kichi Omurice, which at this point has become a bit of an internet legend. The owner, Chef Motokichi, is a cool dude and is very friendly. Went there based on several Buzzfeed videos and was not disappointed. They have more than just omurice, and overall the food is just as good as the vibe. Chef Motokichi radiates happiness. Be warned, you will probably need a reservation. I was able to get in with a friend without one, but this was back in 2019, and I would reckon things have changed since then.
The sagano romantic train is only like 10$ if I remember correctly, super chill and beautiful. It’s right next to the train station you’d get off for the bamboo gardens. Also UPIT’S BURGER is fire
I was watching Sora the Troll live streaming in Osaka and people are so relax and funny, so much different from what you can see in TokHAVE YOU CONSIDERED SPEED RUNNING EVERY SINGLE TEMPLE IN TOKYO?!
I highly recommend Shogunzuka amazing view over the city. Get there by going to Chionin Mieido (which also is a really cool temple) then a small hike on a forrest path up to the thing.
I don't know why but I always thought that H&M, Primark and Lidl were exclusive to my country, with chains like Mcdonald's you can kind of get that vibe of international chain but I think that happens a lot with fast food chains. (this comment was made possible by the H&M at 0:12)
Try a coffee at "%Arabica" in Kyoto. It is *easily* the best coffee I've had in Japan. Also you make like the aesthetic of the shops and are nice to film.
Day 31 of asking Mudan to start in a random area of tokyo and compete with babysitter and foxie to see who can find the most small hidden shrines in the backalleys and rooftops of tokyo in a day! Coming to Osaka and Kyoto in june, could you do a tierlist of the attractions while you're there?
The rain in Osaka is perfect vibes for Izakaya! Definitely hard recommend Trick in Shinsaibashi. Went there the other night and tried the chicken sashimi and yakitori. Good price and the owner is such a friendly vibe. Just don’t pay heed to the naked lady poster on the top right.
Currently in Kyoto. Heian Shrine and it’s gardens are nice usually a bit quieter. Kyoto botanically garden is beautiful. Honestly just walking around Gion is nice, between Sanjo station down to Gion machi area. You can walk the streets it is a big neighbourhood with many craftspeople and antique shops, old houses and many hidden shrines. The only crowded part of Gion is the main tourist street that is close to Yasaka shrine. Skip Fushimi Inari and kiyomizu unless you go early in the morning to avoid crowds. Though they are both very pretty.
Tokura is a good hamburg steak restaurant in Kyoto. A little far from central Kyoto but well worth the trip. It’s those hamburg steaks with the juices that flow out when you pierce it
Great video! Hope you enjoyed the Shinkansen ride, it was a very fun experience when I went for sure. As for recommendations in Kyoto, well, I’d suggest going to a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant my family and I stumbled across one night, called Washoku Shiki. It was incredibly delicious and has one of the most friendly and personable chef/owners I’ve ever met. If you get a chance to try it out, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Have fun in Kyoto.
I recommend to visit you Otagi Nenbutsu temple in Kyoto, it shouldn’t be overcrowded (though if it’s golden week don’t quote me on that lol ) and it has a unique atmosphere. Thank you for Osaka vlog, I really love it. Last year I went there for hanami and enjoyed it a lot.
visit the nintendo OG office, which is an hotel now. And also gekkeikan office to see how they make sake. Nintendo store and also the pokemon store "the royal palace" in kyoto, and yes offically kyoto is still the captial. Nijo-jo Castle as it was the old palace heianjingu shrine okazakijinja shrine (the rabbit shrine) the kyoto train museum
Kyoto recommendations: 1. I don't know how it is outside fall but Nanzenji shrine was by far my favorite of every shrine I saw. 2. Nishiki Market if you're into food markets.
In Kyoto there is a magic themed expat bar called Penny-farthing that is along the Kano River. Not your classic Kyoto experience but fun after enjoying a few temples.
There's a snack shop right at the road into Kinkaku-ji temple called Yamazaki-an, they have incredibly good Kyoto-style takoyaki Also if you go to Fushimi Inari, go there as early as you possibly can. We got there for sunrise and it was incredible, there were very few other people there.
I've lived in Kyoto the past year, some unknown but nice spots: In the Moon - Outdoor bar near Gion on the 9th floor with an amazing view of the city and very reasonably prices and delicious cocktails 半兵ヱ 京都四条河原町店 - Izakaya in Showa style Hirobun - Bit to the north of Kyoto, Nageshi Somen is definitely a good one for a video someday, next Kifune Shrine and a mountain hike with Kurama-Dera Regarding temples, aside from the usual suspects (Kiyomizu, Fushimi Inari, Ryoanji etc): Ryōzen Kannon Temple (big Buddha be big) Enryaku-ji (Either a hefty hike, or a cable cart up the mountain) Heian Shrine (shrine itself is boring, but the garden is quite nice) Rengeōin (Sanjūsangendō) Temple (just a shit ton of Kannon's) Consider a day trip to Uji (and Nara of course) to visit Byodo-in and eat some matcha related food Finally, rent a bycicle, especially when exploring the western area, by far the best way to see Kyoto
For Kyoto, there are wooden boats you can take which go down the river, like rafting ... but in a wooden boat. It requires a bus ride though to get there
Been living in Japan for over 4 years now, never knew that that ferris wheel was ride-able. First couple of years of visiting Osaka, it was out of service
Hello Mudan. You HAVE to go to kumonocha cafe kyoto bukkoji or kumonocha cafe kyoto sannenzaka. The cloud dessert was phenomenal, one of if not the best thing I ate in Japan. Also I thought Hirobun in Kibune was under whelming, but everyone posts about it. The best part of Hirobun was sitting over the moving water and the macha mochi they give you.
Kyoto first trip ever, stuff to visit: Fushimi Inari Taisha (climb to the top, bonus points for counting all the gates) Arashiyama Bamboo Forest Sagano Scenic Railway (may have to book in advance, check JR bookings for the line) The monkey park by Arashiyama? Kiyomizudera (not as cool as Fushimi Inari, but pretty impressive. Drink the water if you go there, but only from one stream, read about the legend beforehand)

Go to Fushimi Inari in Kyoto and climb all the way to the top, it's a huge area 10/10 no regrets
I was going to suggest Fushimi Inari too, however I think he's not going to (or at least not filming) any shrines or temples out of spite rn 😆

Regarding temples, aside from the usual suspects (Kiyomizu, Fushimi Inari, Ryoanji etc):
Ryōzen Kannon Temple (big Buddha be big)
Enryaku-ji (Either a hefty hike, or a cable cart up the mountain)
