New World is a great example of why your testers can't be your superfans, because your superfans will be 'on their best behavior' during any testing. You need at least 5% of your testers to be "intentionally disruptive wankers"

The two major issues from its core are the following: they were originally planning on a full loot PvP game (i.e. when you kill a player, you can loot everything on them) but backtracked when they realized too late that such a concept doesn’t make a lot of money (because you’ll just be left with a few dedicated whales and no new players will stay after they get inevitably looted for the fifth time in their first hour) and well, nobody on the team even had experience with MMOs. The genre is over 20 years old and they got no one that knew how MMOs work from a developer perspective and just hired whoever was willing to do it for cheap. Le sigh.
They bought this game after another studio had already put a years worth of work into it, thats why it made a drastic shift from full pvp tp pvlagg. most of the work AG put into the game was the professions and just Unicron'd the rest into the base game.
With the shitshow of the current situation, no matter what "concept" was in the end game there is not a single chance it would have somehow worked better. They just are incompetent.
It's kind of genius that Amazon would make a game that fries your expensive Graphix Card, so that you can spend even more money either on Amazon or Ebay for another one. Lol.

If I learned anything after playing WoW, LoL or Dark Souls, is that whenever there is a competitive system and PVP its going to draw a lot of toxic players I mean just look at most football and soccer world championships by the end of the day one of the cheering teams is going to start a riot or a bar fight or two because their team lost
And the amount of toxicity is constantly on a rise because of positive reinforcement towards such attitude (Tyler1 being the easily most relevant example)

As a player that watched their server self destruct: it wasn't politics or dbags or lazer zombies. it was TAXES! one city was put higher than the others, and this caused that faction to eat itself. some of us faction hopped, but the damage was done and the active pvpers from that faction left. then the remaining other faction pvpers left the server, so the only people left are the grinders. IN GAME TAXES killed the server. cause taxes are scary you see.
The bugs were a bit overexaggerated but the rest was not. Managed 100 hours of play, which makes top 5 for me in any one game in 30 years of play. Only got stuck once. Did have a complaint that dungeons were way to long and difficult without people to carry you through. Did have a problem with running and running and running. Did have a problem with mobs spawning right behind me seconds after I killed them while fighting other mobs. Did have a problem with players saying "game is fine as is" while the online population dropped from 900k to 100k in 3 months. I got my money's worth of actual fun but running required in this game was ridiculous.
I find it funny that there was so much research and warnings against vape, but no one seems to bother about cigarettes... really makes you think. I bet a lot of the anti-vape "research" is funded by big tobacco
Unlikely, since a lot of the bugs are due to terrible code foundations (a lot of important calculations, like taking damage, are done client-side rather than server-side, which should never be the case in an MMO)
I implore you guys to play a real mmo... The combat system is completely devoid of any class fantasy and you have 6 active spells. How can you compare that to e.g. WotLK 3v3 arena... each class like 40+ keybinds, not including just targeting/focus keybinds), that you have to choose every 1.2 seconds, with a critical few off the global cooldown to weave in as needed. But 6 abilities that have like 20 second cooldowns, meaning you make like 15 critical spell choices a second, where a game like WotLK is ~45-50 where each choice was an actual choice: you have like 10 candidate abilities for every global. The Dark Souls for toddlers comment was perfect and I think, incredibly sadly and depressingly, is why people like New World so much. It is not complicated enough to be really interesting, but enough is there for mediocre players to feel challenged.
My biggest problem with new world was the lack of mounts. I kept spending a good amount of time walking from A to B, which I honestly grew to despise before even playing the game because I just finished getting sick of walking in generation zero, which is filled with highly lethal, giant robots, in a map as large as many of the far cry games for example. And the fastest means of transportation in a world where robots are murdering everyone? A bicycle. I mean, your playing as a bunch of teenagers, but come on. An npc in the game even addresses this, but says he doesn’t care if your fighting death machines, your still not going to drive. I don’t care. An armored car is a much safer, faster, and cooler ride while the damn bike can’t even go off-road, and the bots all over the place shoot you off of it. Surviving a car crash is probably much more likely than trying to evade missile barrages without dying on your first bicycle. I know I went off topic, but I think we all can agree that slowly running from point to point is stupid, and should be avoided as much as possible in any game, unless your a weird game like death stranding.

"I was banned from the game cause this player was breaking the Economy by making Bags super expensive, I asked him to lower the prices so I can sell my bags. He private messaged me saying he was gonna get his guild to report me and I was banned for 5 days."
You missed the part about faction regions where people got together on Discord a year in Advance and took every region in 6 hours. Making it pointless to be in either of the other factions
Combat is fun. Crafting and gathering is a good system. FAST TRAVEL is ridiculous. Make it based on coin, not some stuff you need for other things in game, because you really need to fast travel a LOT. They send you on 40 minutes walks to other towns all the damn time, and there are NO MOUNTS. Also, I have played just over 20 hours, but a bug awarded me ALL of the playtime achievements. 720 hours! Whee!
