  • How to hear the voice of God clearly. There is so much confusion today about how to hear God's voice and there are so many crackpots out there that its difficult to know what to believe in regards to hearing the voice of God.
The Biblical Ways Which God Spoke
    1) The audible voice of God (Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus).
    2) An angelic messenger (Gideon, Joseph).
    3) Dreams and visions (Daniel, Joseph, Isaiah, Ezekiel).
    4) Prophets (God sent prophets to speak to the people on his behalf).
    5) The scriptures (The scriptures are frequently referred to as the voice or the Word of God).
    • I have never heard the audible voice of God, neither have I seen an angel nor have I had a dream which can be distinguished from my own dreams, neither have I had a vision and everyone I have met that claims to be a prophet is either a complete crackpot or a fake.
    • I think that this is normal for most honest people. I don’t think that people all over Israel were getting dreams and visions, seeing angels, and hearing the audible voice of God.
    • I think these more dramatic forms of communication from God were for unique purposes, and they were for very special moments in history, especially redemptive history.
    i. In the entire Old Testament, a period covering over 4000 years, less the 20 dreams are recorded and only 15 recipients mentioned.
ii. Only 6 dreams are recorded in the NT, all of them in the Gospel of Matthew. Joseph, the husband of Mary, had 4 dreams not hundreds. No-body in the Bible used a dream book or a dream code, these things are pagan and demonic.
iii. I knew someone that was always insisting that they had dreams from God and now he is a transgender.
iv. Another person was always prophesying in church, looking down at me as a new Christian because my focus was on the scriptures and his was on the voice of God, and now he has left his wife, doesn’t believe in God and lives with a homosexual man.
    • How does God speak to me? In my experience, and from what I see in scripture, God speaks to us through his Word and if we acknowledge him in all of our ways he will direct our path and as we look back we see God’s divine guidance in our life.
It is the spirit that quickeneth (gives life); the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63
For the word of God is quick (living), and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4
    • This is a quote from Deuteronomy 8:3 and in context it refers to the revealed Word of God, the Torah.
    • The idea behind this statement is that we need to let the scriptures speak to us on a daily basis.
o God never says this about dreams, visions, angelic messengers or the audible voice of God.
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Hebrews 1:1-2
    • The greatest revelation of God is the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
    • The greatest example every set forth in for us to follow is Jesus Christ.
    • The problem with the WWJD movement is that most people had a fluffy few of Christ, like he was some sort of long haired hippie.
    • Jesus was gracious and kind but he also got angry, rebuked false teachers harshly and publicly and drove out the money changers in the Temple with a whip.
    • Give example of person who said I was demon possessed.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. 2 Timothy 3:16
    a. It could be through reading his Word.
    b. Someone speaking or quoting his Word.
    c. The Holy Spirit bringing remembrance of His Word to me in certain circumstances.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16
    • Christ’s Word dwells in us richly, not just through reading the scriptures and listening to sermons, but when we teach and admonish one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs.
You must assimilate the bible and make it your own, in that intimate sense which will fix its words fast in your hearts, if you would have those words rise spontaneously to your lips in your times of need, or in times of the needs of others. Read, study, and meditate until the Bible is in you. Then the Bible will well up in you and come out from you in every season of need. BB Warfield
