  • Are you as bad as this?!
    A quarter of adults in Britain are so obsessed with cleaning and tidying that they spend more than four years of their waking lives on household chores, with many feeling compelled to abide by strict regimes and rituals.
    The first cleaner is 38 year old Wife and Mum Natasha. Croatian born Natasha loves to look for dirt in hidden places and will make sure that every germ is banished from her home, from the seals of her windows to every inch of her chandeliers.
    Dust does not survive in Natasha's home; it's tackled the moment she spots it. For Natasha it's not just about cleanliness but the all important finishing touches. Painstakingly, she makes sure every inch of her home is perfect, from the tassels on her rugs to the positioning of her pictures. Natasha's need to clean is all-consuming leaving little quality time with her husband and children. Natasha hopes to learn to relax and have more time for her husband.

    I love that Natasha is the first “cleaner" that actually admits that her way isn't the right one too. I don't like seeing these obsessive cleaners telling everybody having 5 vacuums and cleaning for hours every day is normal. It's not. That's why OCD is a Disorder. Being clean and tidy is normal. Overdoing it both ways is a problem .

      Just to explain from the point of view of someone with ocd (not about cleaning though), the cleaners DO know they have an issue, and they always say so, but then on this show they’re put into situations which cause very high anxiety. Idk how to explain it to someone without an anxiety disorder. It’s like…you see someone about to get hit by a speeding truck and you might yell “get the f out the way!”, not because you think that’s the best way to talk to you, but because you’re feeling fear, your heart’s racing, your blood is pounding in your ears, and you feel like something horrible is going to happen. I feel like this show deliberately puts people with OCD in situations which will cause panicky rudeness because it’s good tv. But if you see the interviews when they’re in a clean environment most of them know they have a problem and talk openly about it. The other thing is that, for us, there is a lot of denial and shame. It is hard for us to admit that we’re missing out on life to do something that doesn’t matter, so sometimes we justify it.

      @@clsisman You nailed it. I have a different type of OCD but over the years it has heightened my awareness of cleaning needs and now I find myself sometimes cleaning compulsively, or using it to soothe in distress. And especially that negative triggers like stains, smells, or just the existence of anything in the bathroom, REALLY gets to me. I’ve had a major emotional breakdown because my husband refused to put down the toilet lid! It is about anxiety and where we are putting it, the less control and safety I experience over the years the more I’ve become compulsive and highly reactive to these things.

    • @randomhumanoidblob4506
      @randomhumanoidblob4506 2 года назад +15

      They're nearly always making excuses. Time and again, it's depression and sickness.
      And it could happen to you. I know you think not (and I genuinely hope not for your sake) but it starts when you're in no position to care. When you DO come out of it, you don't know where to start and it has all sorts of negative connotations attached so that's frightening and you're worried it'll put you back in the really bad place. They're known as "depression houses" for a reason.
      These are really just two sides of the same coin. One side choose to be over-controlling because they are terrified that losing any modicum of it will lead to chaos, the other side is what they fear.
      It's kinda sad. Altho every now and then there's just a real pig who doesn't give a shit, most are just unhappy situations. And remind me I said that next time I'm retching alongside you ;-)

      Yeah it's a mental illness it's not just being lazy and dirty. 'normal' people don't live like that. I get so emotionally attached to things which makes it impossible to get rid of anything, then rooms get cluttered as there's nowhere to put everything..... Making it harder to clean. Then it is just so overwhelming thinking about trying to tidy up because you don't know where to start and so the cycle just carries on. My flat isn't as bad as ones I've seen, my sofas and bed is clear and there is clear floor space to walk through. It is so hard to get help though.... 1) it's embarrassing letting anyone in.... 2) finding someone that knows and understands mental health.... 3) the hardest part is knowing you have to let go of a LOT. I quite enjoy tidying and organising and will do it elsewhere but when it comes to my home and my things it's like physically impossible! It's so hard. To be fair. When we had our German Shepherd. We used to Hoover 2 to 3 times a day. Our Dyson did not pull up the hair. We would scrape our foot along the carpet to release the hair. There was tons that come out the Vacuum did not pick up. Eventually we got hard flooring but hoarding or not the struggle is real.

    Although not OCD diagnosed, I do clean a lot, and it's like litterly 3 hours a day, and my daughter is OCD diagnosed recently. I do feel its over doing it at times, but by going to the doctors, I feel like I'm admitting I need help 😮😮
    I'd never look down at people who don't clean as everyone had their own battles, no ones aware of 😢😢

    • @sashavann92

      What's wrong with needing help?? We're all human and all need help at times with different things. You clearly wanted the help for your daughter and got her diagnosed because you could see the benefits of doing so. Getting a diagnosis doesn't necessarily mean you have to do anything about it, it just means professionals have recognised the condition that you have. That way if you decide you DO want help in the future it'll be easier to get. Be kind to yourself ❤

    • @shazhussain3447
      @shazhussain3447 8 месяцев назад +2

      @sashavann92 I totally agree with maybe we all do need help from time to time, and maybe I feel I'm defeated if you get what I mean . As for my daughter, I saw how extreme she was, but I guess we don't see something wrong in ourselves until someone else does the same things. But, yes, I have been to doctors lately and have been diagnosed with OCD recently. I agree be kind to yourself. Thank you 😊

My relationship was extremely abusive because he expected me to be like his mother who would literally go days without sleeping because even working 2 jobs her house had to be perfect and her husband was like her son if she didn’t. I thought it was just his family but with 12 years of going to the homes of others in the Croatian community it was the same in every home.

    ALL these people should go to a therapist!! they need to understand why they act the way they do. It's the only way they modify their behaviour. This program is not the solution but mereley an entertainment. And by "all", I mean the hoarders as well as the cleaners. To me the cleaners are even worse because their OCD pollutes the environment : everytime I watch an episode, I feel sick and get mad at the amount of garbage they produce on a daily basis as well as at the bleach they throw into the water which ends up contaminating the rivers and so. And that cleaner claiming at the beginning of each show that she's afraid her children might die of living amongst germs makes me laugh : they would rather die from inhaling the insane amount of bleach and other chemical products she exposes them to everyday! It's written on the bottle of bleach : toxic, keep away from children... Please, do the world a favour : go to a therapist!!
