I have never again used the arranger, I never used pick up machines, hell I never really used on the fly resampling like in this video, yet the OT is where most of my live is based and I really could not do without right now.
Ok, wow. This is exactly the kind of thing I've been trying to do for a few years now, I had no idea the Octatrack could do it. I have a lot to think about now. Thanks!

Seems like this mode of operation would be excellent for preventing dementia too! 😉 I'd be really keen to see what territory you could cover if you uploaded a long (~30 to 60min) mix using this template. Nice. This would also solve that problem of, oh i need to stop the music to load a new project into my (mpc/mc707/etc). You could use the Octatrack as your master tempo, be playing back your flux track master loop, and be quickly loading in an entirely new project. Which you could then mix in bit by bit using the crossfader. Very cool concept thanks for this video.

If you want to record one handed from any of the 3 inputs without record trigs in this setup, just set REC1 setup to AB, CD, and SRC3, then setup REC2 for quantized recording to PLEN, then make sure you have quick record mode enabled. Now you just select the track on which you wish to record then press one or more of the REC buttons, just before the end of your pattern loop, and bam it records it on the next “1”. Anyway Matthew, great video as usual, and nice jam too! 💯
@@EZBOT_ Ah, I thought you were only using 1 shot rec trigs when I wrote that. QREC is so handy isn’t it? BTW OT is by far my fave piece of gear too ❤️🤘

A second OT Mk1 is probably one of the best value for money pieces of gear you can get your hands on. Insanely powerful. Same goes for the A4 Mk1 if your not worried about using Overbridge
Nice setup, I could see this working well with ableton where the instruments are coming from ableton -> OT + pair K2s and then you're using the OT to take things further. While I enjoy working with hardware I feel like it takes a HUGE investment of time for what can be done in a tenth of the time with ableton. My personal workflow has been to use hardware to create sounds and come up with new ideas and then move that over to ableton so I can take it further.

The looper functionality is why I got thé Octatrack, but it doesn’t always seem to record when I want it to. Probably am doing something wrong or I am not understanding everything about it. There are some more steps involved then are logical to me. Which probably also gives it more options. I guess getting the template is also a good option 😀

Do you have a analog heat - great on the cue outs of OT. Another idea for this setup if you are not using all the midi tracks on OT is to use them for multimap control of DN, can be handy when you want a extra pair of hands to change stuff on the DN. Well worth experimenting with, you can change patterns etc just by setting up midi tracks on OT to call patterns by note on DN, you can also do cool stuff like select sound by note velocity etc, pretty powerful.

Love this.. I'm getting back into my original octatrack, loving this, I was actually considering a workflow like this except running a laptop w/ Bitwig into the octatrack. I already wrote a max patch that lets me control scenes in bitwig using the midi from the OT crossfader and scene buttons, adding the looping would knock this out of the park though
@@EZBOT_ so let’s say I want to plug my turntables to the octatrack how can I plug and set each deck to each slot? You think it’ll be possible to scratch with the OT and a set of turntable? I remember elektron releasing a video long time ago of the OT and someone scratching but only with one turntable, I’ve been curious if I could do dual decks or even dual sp404 dj sets with the OT as a mixer
I hope this q makes sense… can you use the Octa as shown in the video + use it for sounds(drums/synths/etc)? Do you need the digis to be producing sound?
How much do you have to look at those screens when live? Do you feel you can muscle memory the interfaces so when its really dark and in the heat of the moment, you can do all these things? Thanks for making this video!
I usually plug my OT and external gear into my Mackie 402-VLZ3 mixer. Now I’m thinking I could plug the synths into the Mackie and plug the Mackie into the OT..
What’s up OoraMusic :) not sure exactly what you mean. 2 of the flex tracks are listening to recorders that are pointed at the end of the FX chain for the individual inputs. 1 of the recorders (7) is listening to a recorder that’s is recording from the master track. Does that help?
Hello, man :) Super sick video and knowledge sharing here ! I have one question please : will i lose the audio quality of the digitakt if i run it thru the Octatrack MK1 ? Thx
Would like to use this setup, but then still make two separate channels go from thé Octatrack into an other mixer. I can use the que tracks from thé Octatrack to do this, but when I do, I don’t think I can change the volume of the que track with the octatrack slider to fade between looper and throug track. Maybe it is possible using the Studio mode. Have to check Update: in studio mode, assigning the the level in a scene also doesn't seem to work, but a FX1 DJ equalizer does
Forgive me for the stupid question, but what are 9-16 being used for since only one effect can be used at a time? Are they acting as mutes? Hope that made sense. Cheers!!
Excellent video 👏👏👏 I joined your Patreon to get your template and it immediately helped me LEVEL UP what I do on my OT!!! If and when you do another template. Can you have this template on Part 1 and a second new template on Part 2? So, is that what Parts on the OT are for? Or, will one template be the primary exclusive template on all four Parts?
Visit my Patreon to get the download link. Unzip the file and place the folder in your current set on the Octatrack with your other projects. Load the project :)
Admittedly the OT is lower on my list of gassy elektron products, but you def reignited some interest. I was after the analog heat and analog 4 next. Have DT and DNkeys presently.
Hi! Great job, good explained and super inspiring. Can i ask you if you can use octa this way and in the same time sounds from the octatrack's tracks itself? I mean, resampling external source and internal at the same time???
Fresh Baked and was a good discussion on the process can you make another video on that I've been looking for a live reusable process to perform my music I can make awesome music with my stuff but I lack a performance version of the making process which seems to part of the fun and joy too!😊
A great video - thanks for this. I'm thinking about getting back into techno music production - i've owned a rytm, analog four, digitatk and a digitone in the past, besides many other synths. The A4 was my favorite synth, for its really deep, organic sound - always found it excellent for techno chords and synth lines. Curious how it would compare to a syntakt. I've never had an Octatrack though - and am somehow leaning towards getting my hands dirty with one. if you had to chose an absolute minimal studio setup (form factor not important) for ALL studio duties (3 machines), what would that be? I have no interest in using a DAW other than maybe doing a final mix down + mastering. Would you use the Octatrack as the center piece? What would the other 2 machines be next to it? much appreciated! and subscribied of course!
@@EZBOT_ Sounds great. I can wait until Wednesday. Please share a video or whatever on how to purchase/download the template. Can't wait to dig in further to the Octatack. Thank you for the quick reply. :)

You think I can use the cross fader as a regular dj mixer? Plug my turntables to the OT and use the fader to transition?
Yep!
You're a genius man, amazing template.
Its about time I set up the looper! Thx Matthew
F****** awesome dude🤙🏼your video editing is top notch too!!!
Would love to catch your set live, this sounds amazing
Thanks Aldo! ❤️
I hope this q makes sense… can you use the Octa as shown in the video + use it for sounds(drums/synths/etc)? Do you need the digis to be producing sound?
100% this is something we discuss often in the discord/Patreon
Thx for the reply!
I think this: Octatrack is maybe the best partner for a Roland MX-1 using like AUX FX/LOOPER
I'm teetering on the edge of buying an Octatrack. I think this vid may have sealed the deal.
Beautifully done! Sick video!
How much do you have to look at those screens when live? Do you feel you can muscle memory the interfaces so when its really dark and in the heat of the moment, you can do all these things? Thanks for making this video!
great explanation - thanks for sharing
would you mind to make a video how to setup those fxs you are using?
I’ve made a few videos on how to make the fx :) is that what you mean?
@@EZBOT_ sorry, got into "too much to read" syndrom 🙃 and completely overlooked it
I found them within your elektron playlist!
I usually plug my OT and external gear into my Mackie 402-VLZ3 mixer. Now I’m thinking I could plug the synths into the Mackie and plug the Mackie into the OT..
Great video man!! Quick question, you have 3 flex machines, how you record on the DT and DN flex track the master fx?
What’s up OoraMusic :) not sure exactly what you mean. 2 of the flex tracks are listening to recorders that are pointed at the end of the FX chain for the individual inputs. 1 of the recorders (7) is listening to a recorder that’s is recording from the master track. Does that help?
@@EZBOT_ gotcha! I thought the first two recorder were listening to input AB and CD. So they listen to your track 2 and 4 am I right?
Yeah they listen to the track, I guess I didn’t say that did I, haha.
This thing still confuses the hell out of me. Also, didn't the MKII upgrade its storage type? Weird that it's still Compact Flash and not SD.
Hello, man :) Super sick video and knowledge sharing here ! I have one question please : will i lose the audio quality of the digitakt if i run it thru the Octatrack MK1 ? Thx
Just barely, you likely won't notice it
@@EZBOT_ thanks man ;)
Awesome demonstration and video! Thanks for the info. Could this same workflow be achieved if the digitone was swapped for a Minilogue XD?
For sure
I'm about to buy an ocktatrack, can i use some fx of this template while using a track as looper and another track for samples?
I have a template for that included when you download 2.1.1 from Patreon or Ko-Fi
Thanks! Will be joining your Patreon as soon as i get the box! Thanks for the inspiration!
Awesome stuff man. New sub!
Thanks!
Have to check
Update: in studio mode, assigning the the level in a scene also doesn't seem to work, but a FX1 DJ equalizer does
Great use of the gear and really funky music.
Cheers.
Wow, this looks so cool! I have to get me some of those!
Forgive me for the stupid question, but what are 9-16 being used for since only one effect can be used at a time? Are they acting as mutes? Hope that made sense. Cheers!!
Dude you are absolutely killing it. I wish you could just sit in my studio and show me shit.
I do private online lessons, which is basically that :)
@@EZBOT_ the mustache is pretty convincing...
@@iancain6647 power-stache
That was great. Thank you for the inspiration!
Dammit. I'm... I'm going to have to get the OT. It really is a silver bullet for sequencing and effects... and composition. Wow, great vid :)
perfectly aligned this time!
Sup my friend! 4 Templates per Bank all housed on patterns. I am working on a few new versions of it :P
Came here for the octatrack tips, stayed for the mustache.
Such a n00b question but how do I get this project template onto the octatrack?
Visit my Patreon to get the download link. Unzip the file and place the folder in your current set on the Octatrack with your other projects. Load the project :)
Admittedly the OT is lower on my list of gassy elektron products, but you def reignited some interest. I was after the analog heat and analog 4 next. Have DT and DNkeys presently.
Remember the octa will never have overbridge. Prepare to the struggle
Hi! Great job, good explained and super inspiring. Can i ask you if you can use octa this way and in the same time sounds from the octatrack's tracks itself? I mean, resampling external source and internal at the same time???
not for every music style but very inspiring, congrats!
Fresh Baked and was a good discussion on the process can you make another video on that I've been looking for a live reusable process to perform my music I can make awesome music with my stuff but I lack a performance version of the making process which seems to part of the fun and joy too!😊
Wtffffff this is sooo epic I NEED THIS!!!!!
Man. I have an AR and A4 and this video makes me want and OT so so bad. And then get your templates.
OT+DT+DN all day
thank you so much for this! very inspiring
So helpful my man!
Does the OT preserve the stereo image coming in? Seems obvious but the digitakt doesn't sample in stereo so just curious.
Yes the OT does, Digitakt does too except for when sampling.
Is patreon the only way to buy the Octatrack template?
Currently, yes. I was thinking about setting up another way when I release the 2.0 version this Wednesday.
@@EZBOT_ Sounds great. I can wait until Wednesday. Please share a video or whatever on how to purchase/download the template. Can't wait to dig in further to the Octatack. Thank you for the quick reply. :)
As you said, dope. Cheers from OR
Do you have a video on how to set up those performance effects?
I want to ask but couldn’t find anywhere: what headphones do you use? Thanks :D
They are AKG 240. They are quite affordable ☺️
