  • This video is a quick rundown of what my particular bike (2001 Suzuki TL1000R) was doing when I discovered the starter button was broken. I also demonstrate a crude method for testing the switch, and what I did to replace the broken parts. This video is not a substitute for properly troubleshooting your machine's electrical systems as I found out when I prematurely purchased a starter solenoid. I hope this video helps!

My bike is doing the exact same thing. Gonna try this today. I ordered the switch and here we go.

Thanks for the compliment! As for the bike starting, it used to intermittently start and then decide to quit while I was out riding or stopped for fuel etc...typically leaving me standing there pushing the button repeatedly and hoping for it to crank. Eventually what prompted me to make this video was that I could not get the bike to turn over no matter what, until I touched the contacts with a screwdriver of course!

If the TL1000r does not start, then if it is not the starter swich, then it can be also the big wire connectors left side of the front light and dashboard under the plastics, these will also get oxidized. And it will be bad connection in there, and because of that connectors sometimes even lights does not work!

Mine does the same thing I don't hear the fuel pump go on. So it's not the fuel pump?

My problem was the cut-out switch on the clutch lever... I took the 2 connectors off the clutch switch and joined them using some folded up tin foil to bypass the switch. It worked and got my home lol...
Now my starting problem is due to an inlet valve smashing through the shim-bucket which has trashed the front cylinder head - A fairly common problem with the Tiller apparantly...

Not the bike to go touring on I had mine just 1 day went 2 miles on a test run and it went dead with error code F I then I fixed that myself by looping the wires under the seat hump and then error code C41 come up and the electronic fuel pump won’t prime. My battery is almost dead so I’ve ordered a new lithium one hoping that this will fix it as maybe the battery is too weak to prime the fuel pump. If this don’t work I’ll buy a starter relay and if that don’t work its time to call a mechanic🤨

So what caused your battery to die when you used screw driver, my tl1000r cranks but has trouble starting and often times battery dies out on me. Any suggestions?

Ruben Mercado I would suggest you have your battery tested. I also have a Hayabusa that was slow to crank and sometimes died. This happened even though I charged the battery repeatedly and it would test 12 volts with a volt meter but the battery did not have the amps necessary to crank the bike. You might also try cleaning the terminals. Good luck!

I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with TL1000 error codes. But, I'm sure someone else on RUclips or the TL forums would have some helpful information for you... Good luck and let us know how it goes!
