    I think Ket is the only language that refer 8 as 10-2 and 9 as 10-1😂

    • @mikahamari6420
      @mikahamari6420 5 месяцев назад +35

      Actually this method exists in Uralic languages and probably in other language families, even if not with different words. For example in Finnic languages like Finnish we have numbers (and their inflectional roots):
      1: yksi (yhde-)
      2: kaksi (kahde-)
      8: kahdeksan
      9: yhdeksän
      Element -ksan, -ksän doesn't mean anything, but you can see that 8 is formed from the root of 2 and 9 is formed from the root of 1. So, it seems this means 'less than 10'.

    • @oliveranderson7264
      @oliveranderson7264 5 месяцев назад +16

      Zulu has the same system, “isishiyagalolunye” (9) literally means “leaving one finger behind”. Yoruba also does the same but only with numbers past 10

      Delapan (Malayic)/Dalapan (Sundanese) = Dua alapan = Two removed (from ten)

      The theory says there's a lot of separation between the languages. However, they have in common some overarching features. Linguist Edward Vajda, the guy who studied and analyzed both languages for years, has stated that he doesn't claim they're the closest families between each other, but they have a connection. Posibly they have some other languages more related to each.
