Now that I am all current on your new content, RUclips has been offering me up some of your older content. This is a delightful vlog with the very cool steam train (I am officially jealous), the story of Fran slipping into the canal (and seemingly unruffled by it) and topped off by the sweet comment as to the best day of her life was the day she met Rich. A vlog doesn’t get much better than that!

Aaww thank you so much. Your comment inspired us to go back and watch this episode ourselves. It was an amazing experience riding on the steam train. We have another steam railway near us again now and plan another 'day out' in the next few weeks, so there may be another train video for you x

THATwas fantastic! Thank you for letting us come with you!! I did not know that the little....rooms......still existed on the trains. Too bad they stopped doing that here. You can get a sleeper car which I suppose is an improvement but doesn’t seem nearly as much fun. Did I just type a whine after such a great trip? Shame. Shutting up then. Thank you, again.

Narrowboats and steam engines, two of my favourite modes of transport. We sometimes have a day out with UK rail tours. They charter trains and you go there and back while dining. A couple of times we’ve had steam trains, the last one went to Glasgow over the Ribblehead viaduct but my favourite was with the Osprey at full steam over the Forth bridge. The problem is you can’t see the beauty of the train when you’re sitting tucking into a full English! A couple of years ago as a treat we travelled on the Belmond and it was fantastic. It’s good to see you’re pushing on with the kitchen, it must be really hard to motivate yourselves to do DIY! The tiles are great and they match your dresser. When you started to remove the old tiles I wondered how boatman Benjamin is getting on. Thanks as always for sharing your journey. I really enjoyed it.

Could you tell how much I enjoyed it Alan? I think you would love this trip if you can fit it in.

I certainly could Fran and I hope to fit it in. With various other commitments it will probably be after mid June. Keep safe Alan x

Another great vlog, thanks so much for taking us along. What did the dogs think of their train ride ? Presumably they are now well "trained" ! Keep your vlogs coming, Chris and I love them.

Ha ha! The dogs just ignored the whole trip. If it's not involving food, they're not interested and weren't nearly as excited as me about the engine!

I bet the guard was short sighted and thought you were HRH. Charles & Camilla, so it will be getting those soap nuts out again for washing, again, it's a good job you pair don't drink!!

We did ask where the red carpet was. Soap nuts even got the mud out of my slippers so I am really impressed. I would say we're ready for the doorstep challenge, but we haven't got one!

I notice that some tunnels do not have a towpath. How did that work in the horse day?

    • @FloatingOurBoat
      @FloatingOurBoat  3 года назад

Most tunnels don't have towpaths. Boards used to be put across the boat and two men would lay head to head and simply walk the boat through with their legs on the tunnel walls, known as legging. The horses would go over the top and pick the boat up at the other end.

wonder why there are steps into the canal either end of the tunnel...

6.52 those look like the dreaded Spanish blue bell...not so slowly interbreeding our native more lilac bluebell out of existance ...awful to see. Look out for far broader leaves...more blue than lilac and heads don't droop like our native ones....if sure...dig them out and dispose of carefully.

It did go on after a bit of switch flicking. Like everything on our boat, its a bit temperamental!

I think it was actually me who was going woohoo wooo! I always wanted a train set as a child, but I wasn't allowed one, being a girl. I had to make do with pink crocheted dresses instead!

Oh fran you poor thing you.
You can always copy dan brown and have one on ya boat lol. My daughter had a mixture of girls and boys toys, her best was a scalectric that filled the whole floor, but she was not to keen to put it away once the racing was over. I got my first train set at the age of 48. I don't live to far from east Anglian railway museum at chappel and wakes colne, but I have never been in 56 years but have been woken up by them most Sunday's over summer with them chuffing away like they do.

@@lewisgardner1660 , We used to leave near there and went to the beer festival on several occasions but never rode on a train. I would have loved a scalextric set. I used to sell them in a toy shop in London as a Saturday job and was always the first in line to demonstrate!

Hi rich and fran, love your vlogs < would love to have your lifestyle!! have been looking at projects, we are both just turned our last years of 40 ; both pretty fit!! ( as in we go for a walk on the Huddersfield canal every sunday..... (no marathons or weight liftting) My lovely other half is not adventourous as fran, any tips from you both how i convince her? I was thinking about hire boat initially for a short break, to see if i can win her over ... would love your thoughts on routes and where to start... i think she would be impressed with me stopping her own train to start with !!....haha. take care both!! love the vlogs. Andy. X

Thanks Andy. If you're lovely other half is really against it ,I'm not sure how you would convince her. If she has never been on a canal boat before, and you just want to introduce her, the Ashby would be a great place to start as it is really calm and peaceful. There are no locks, so it might be an idea to go somewhere with a few locks so she can see its not so scary, maybe the Stratford-upon -Avon canal which is also very beautiful. I was really frightened of locks at first until I did one and realised it was fun. Remember, our boat and lifestyle is very basic as we like it that way, but many boats have all the mod cons if thats what you like
