The Princess of Wales is a courtesy title used since the 14th century by the wife of the heir apparent to the English and later British throne.
The new monarch King Charles III passed down the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales to William and Kate in his first televised speech. The bestowal of the title was both emotional and profound, welcoming a new era of royal life.
When marrying into the royal family, it was inevitable that Catherine Middleton would have her fair share of comparisons to the late Princess Diana, the last person to hold the title before Catherine.
Due to Diana’s untimely death, her image has been preserved forever and this new living, breathing Princess of Wales is in a very different place.
As Kate moves into her forties, and with the support of a loving family, there is a potential for her to use the role as a powerful tool for change.

I am so thankful that William was given the ring, and meggie didn't get it, and it shows (I think) how much love was between the brothers at that point...what a horrible shame they are so far apart now. I think Diana would be heartbroken
It did seem (whether by show or not), that the three had a fun relationship. Catherine seemed a good balance in between. Sadly, Harry was unable to find someone to fit in. Sure seemed like the three tried. I am sure was a challenge for a new person, but still what a complete fail.

Thankfully, Catherine possesses all of Diana's best qualities. She also came into this position with almost a decade of preparation, a solid family support system, a far greater maturity level, and a husband that truly loves her. William and Catherine are truly a team and work together toward common goals. This past year has done nothing if not proven that the title of Princess of Wales rests in the very competent hands Catherine Princess of Wales!

According to Telegraph, princess Anne conducted 457 engagements in 2023. Whereas Kate had 128 engagements only. However, Kate receives much more exposure than Anne, who's actually doing the job.

Princess Anne’s children are fully grown and she has the time to focus on her duties, while Princess Catherine has three very young children at home, and since she is raising a future king, she is being allowed to focus primarily on that. More power to her!
Please don't compare Princess Diana and Catherine with each other they are two exceptional and beautiful women in their own right.

In hindsight, when you look at Charles and Diana, one could tell that the spark wasn't there between them. At least not for Charles sadly. When you look at William and Catherine, you can tell there is a great deal of love between them.

I Believe the contributions made to the UK and charities by Diana have been blown out of proportion. First off, she did not have her kids with her full time UNLIKE Catherine and William who take their children to school. Catherine does a tremendous amount of public duties as well as mothering 3 kids, much more than Diana ever has. Once Diana divorced Charles, she a significant drop in duties and had a fair amount of time on her hands. I really wish the two were not compared as it’s a night and day situation and diminishes what Catherine does as Princess of Wales.
Well said. Princess Diana was highly instrumental in lessening the discrimination and fear of getting close to AIDS patients that existed at the time. I remember people actually believed they could "catch" it just by touching or coming into contact with someone suffering with HIV or AIDS. Diana stopped all that nonsense immediately, God Bless her. She was a very courageous lady. I see a lot of Diana in Princess Catherine as well. Classy, elegant, compassionate, a genuine caring for other people.
Nice documentary. Diana truly was on her own in every sense. I'm glad Catherine has the support she has, not only from her family but also from William. Catherine will make an excellent Queen. She and William seem like true partners. I think Catherine's parents also had a good influence on William.

The Legacy of Princess Diana is that she provided a proper support and foundation to Princess Kate in her role in the monarchy. Because of the hard lessons of the life of Princess Diana, the monarchy has changed its perspective on those people who married into the royal family.

May of Teck held the title from 1901 to 1910. Edward and Alexandra held the title of prince and princess of Wales until Queen Victoria died in 1901. Camilla held the title automatically being Charles wife. She didn't use it because of the association with Diana.
The difference between Kate and Diana is that Kate's husband loves and respects her. There is no jealousy of Kate, in the way Charles was jealous of the way people loved Diana! William is confident and proud of his wife. It's truly a loving marriage! I wish Charles had loved Diana the way William loves Kate.. I think Diana would have been as confident as Kate is if she had been loved and treated with respect too. My goodness, Charles flonted his affair with Camilla from the very start. Just think about that. It was Diana's love and teaching her boys that made William such a wonderful husband and father. Such a Wonderful jam she was💖.Instead, Catherine is a stronger and more joyful personality than Princess Di. Princess Catherine exhudes joyfulness and joy of life. She's happier, of course, because she lived (and she lives) in a beautiful family and she had lot of support during her life. That's because she also wants to help children to grow the more and more better with the association she makes part of "shape with us". That's a great thing, for me. On the other hand i Love with all my heart Princess Diana because she's for me the representation of a True Fairy Tale Princess, with an enourmous warm heart 💖. Both, i repeat that, are two beautiful flowers. Diana made a lot for children too💖. Diana was the Princess of People's hearts💖. And she will always be that. Diana walked so Catherine could run. Both are excellent, and I love Catherine immensely in her role, but she is only so perfect at it because of the legacy Diana left.
If were just down to the legacy Diana left then why was it not equally as easy for Meghan? The lessons learnt from Diana certainly made it a bit easier for Catherine marrying into Royalty but lets not take away from her the credit that is due to her and own efforts in making a success of it. As the documentary pointed out, Catherine is a much more mature, well adjusted person from a stable family background who is actually in a loving relationship. That's the major difference.

What do you expect? Dianna was too young when she got married. She was left by herself in Buckingham Palace. She was harassed by the media and not paid any attention by Charles and the Royal family. Camilla didn’t help. This poor girl was used and abused. I am so glad she opened up and showed her big heart.
Kate seems to be more stable, more self-assured, less impetuous than Diana. She also seems less obsessed by the press. But they are equally warm, charitable, relatable and kind. She is a solid and safe pair of hands and that is something the royals really need. Also helps that she looks like a million bucks. Wish they would let Harry en Wallis Markle out of this documentary. They seem to be utterly unreliable.
Well Kate had the luxury of a loving and stable family environment and isn't mentally ill. Diana did not have that luxury and Diana was mentally ill - something which few people recognized and/or understood. Also, Kate is genuinely loved by William, whereas Charles married Diana out of duty. I love both Princesses of Wales for different reasons, but I do not want anyone to see Kate as "stronger" than Diana, because that's just not true. It took tremendous strength and courage for a mentally ill Diana - who was also an empath - to raise her two sons and to tolerate such a lonely and miserable marriage and the lack of support from the royal family, who did not understand mental illness and who did not know how to provide mental health support to Diana in the correct manner. To be fair, even if the royal family would've offered that kind of assistance, I doubt that Diana would've wanted it.

If she was strong, she would have handled her husband’s betrayal of her well. But she was so bitter that she had flings that resulted in many controversies that must have been embarrassing for their children. And the boys were taken care of by the rf, not her.

I can't imagine anyone better to "fill Diana's shoes" than Kate. They share the most important quality of all: authentic humanitarianism. Diana was saddled with the weight of her image. Kate, on the other hand, wields her image as needed - but never lets it rule or overwhelm her. I think both women have been inspirational in the role - individual, yet equally as impactful.

They aren't... the documentary is called The Legacy of the Princess of Wales which is a title both of them hold... they are both also 2 of 3 of the women to hold this title so while it does heavily concentrate on Kate and Diana, Victoria was mentioned as well as holding the title before Diana. 🤷♀️

technically, it's not right: Camilla also had the title of Princess of Wales, but neved used it, for obvious reasons.
Diana was the last woman to USE the title before Katherine but Queen Camilla held the title and chose not to use it.

Everyone seems to forget that Diana was very young when she married, and she found out, Charles had a mistress just before getting married, no wonder she was messed up, she produced 2 beautiful boys for the patronage to many charities, at a very young age, the press always hounding her, at least Kate is in her 40’s and had 10 years to get to know William, Diana was crazy in Love with Charles, but that answer he gave on their engagement, Charles loved someone else! Poor Diana she would have gone through some horrific experiences, probably catching him on the phone with Camilla, many times I don’t know how it would have affected someone like Kate, but Kate has a mum she can turn to, Diana didn’t! But William and Kathrine have something very special and people are now seeing how strong a couple they are!

She automatically became HRH The Duchess of Cornwall & York upon the death of Queen Victoria in January 1901, in which her father-in-law ascended to the throne as Edward VII. Ah no, this is one of the biggest lies ever told by the media and I'm glad that Harry himself admitted that in his memoir. The ring wasn't in his possession to begin with. William asked for it and kept it until the day he proposed to Catherine.

You lost me when you perpetuated the lie that Harry gave William their mother's engagement ring to give to Catherine. The only person who suggests this is Paul Burrell. Harry in his memoir Spare said that this tale is a complete falsehood, that William received the ring upon their mother's death--that William always had ownership of this ring and always meant to give it to his future wife. Just because some people tell this lie over and over will not make it true.

Of course as one of her children Harry would naturally have received a share of her private jewelry which we've seen on Meghan like the gold cuff bracelet, butterfly earrings, possibly the aquamarine ring... Meghan did buy herself a Cartier tank watch which she had engraved with "To MM From MM," but the one she bought was two toned. Diana's watch was only gold tone so when Meghan wears the gold one, it's probably Diana's.

Catherine who is self assured has Prince William who loves and supports her. while the youthful and innocent Diana who loved Charles but he didn’t love her. Catherine was well prepared for Royal life and will serve it well. Diana was not prepared for Royal life but needed to mature into it as her marriage to Charles fell apart. Diana had a very complex life but did serve well before she tragically died. William and Catherine are a strong couple dedicated to serving the monarchy but first of all have a strong marriage.
