Thanks for putting this together, lots of memories. I also wanted to update everyone on something. The voice you hear introducing the anchors on many of the intros in this video Bill Young, passed away today. He was a big name in the Houston TV/Radio scene. RIP Bill.
So many people in this compilation gone... Bill Young (VO), Marvin Zindler, Roland Galvan, Alan Hemberger, Doug Brown, and now Ed Brandon. They're all sorely missed. At least Dave Ward is still with us, and will be returning to ABC13 in September to present "Dave Ward's Houston".
Nice collection of intros and a lot of familiar faces. I remember that jazzy intro beat in the beginning (1979). Very interesting to know that was by Doc Severinsen (from The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson) and was copyrighted by CBS Inc. in 1976. I think 13 remains one of my favorite stations even though they went from "Caring About Texas" to "Houston News Leader".
TL - You have an error in your CC about the VO talent for the openers - It's not Doug Tisdale on the mike, it's Bill Young who was the voice for KTRK for years. Bill's VO stops at the 10:00 min mark.
Probably be the Funniest news openings in this Channel was the 1995-98 sequence they're Dave Ward and Marvin Zindler alongside Shara Fryer, Bob Allen and Ed Brandon plus Number One in Texas, We cares about Texas and Good Evening Friends as well as Cold Hand Luke Tar Sequence and Doug Tisdale voiceover
He was the consumer advocate on KTRK from 1973-2007. He is best know for (a) the guy who exposed the Chicken Ranch and got it shut down, inspiring "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", and (b) his Friday night restaurant reports, where he would say loudly "Slime in the Ice Machine!"
TimBoyd2012 there was a character in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas based on him..the character's name was Melvin P Thorpe in the movie version Melvin was played by Dom Deluise...I didn't care for the real Marvin Zindler he thought he was Mr. big shot this sounds mean but I was glad when he passed
I remember Shara Fryer and Alan Hemberger I remember them from my hometown San Antonio....Shara was on the ABC affiliate KSAT 12 and Alan (RIP) was on KMOL 4 the NBC affiliate....how did Cheryle Keck die???????!!!!...interesting this was...I didn't care for Marvin Zimmer he thought he was Mr. big shot...this sounds mean but when he died I was thrilled

You're watching ABC 13 Eyewitness News: Houston's News Leader.
Tom Koch joined ABC 13 as a reporter in 1982. Koch became morning anchor for 13 Eyewitness News in 1987.
sboudreaux27 I thought Sylvan Rodriguez joined KHOU 11 news in 1986.
