Helen Slater is gorgeous as Supergirl.

I’ve completely forgotten how epic and larger than life this movie was, equaled Superman and more perhaps. Definitely magical to say the least.
The movie was widely hated...virtually no one thought it came anywhere close to the Superman movies. I saw it after reading lots of bad reviews, so my expectations were low, so I was pleasantly surprised.

She even looks exactly like Super-girl from the comics! Perfect match!
The special effects in this movie, for 1984, wow... that aerial ballet she did was unbelievably impressive and they had of course process shots but say what you want about the movie, but I think the special effects were stellar. And of course Helen Slater was extraordinarily cute

This! That's also why I loved that they re-cast her in Smallville. She definitely deserves her place in the superhero-verse despite the script.
I loved this version of Supergirl far more that the CW. And Helen Slater was PERFECT.

It was shocking to discover that this Supergirl and Reeve's Superman are part of the same universe.
If the movie was successful, it would have started the first cinematic universe for dc characters. But it's kinda good that it didn't or we wouldn't have gotten Batman 89.

It wasn't for me. I watched this movie when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure Jimmy Olsen from the Reeve films makes an appearance in this movie.

Why was it? It was literally made with that in mind lol she has a poster of him in the film. Well, Lucy does anyway.

I hate to "geek out"... bah, I love it, but the artifact that Lara was after proved that Kryptonians had mastered the Omega molecule. It's a crossover from Star Trek where no species known to the Federation had such technology.

Great score composed and conducted by Jerry Goldsmith. Performed by The National Philharmonic Orchestra. This could have been Goldsmith's score to "Superman" if his scedule was not conflicted, in which Richard Donner wound up getting John Williams(of course, his iconic score to "Superman" is amazing).

I love that her heat vision makes the flower bloom because technically Kryptonian laser vision is sunlight they've absorbed that they're shooting out of their eyes.

I really hope to see Supergirl in My Adventures With Superman! I also hope that her origin story stays true in both the comics and in Superman/Batman: Apocalypse where she, like, her cousin, Sups, had escaped Krypton before it exploded and was in suspended animation caused by the blast from Krypton instead of going on a mission to retrieve an orb that belonged to her people like in the Supergirl movie. The sad part is that she witnessed her parents, including her mother, die on Krypton!
What's interesting that in the comics Argo city survived the dystruction of Krypton and Kara Zor-El was born years later. When kryptonite meteors crashed through the dome covering the city Zor-El sent Kara to Earth like his brother Jor-El did with Kal-El aka Clark Kent. So the CW version was my vuch wrong.

Hate to admit it, but better effects than superman
The flying special effects for 1984 were absolutely amazing and it's arguably better than Superman. As much as I hate to say it
I'm guessing by the time they came to filming Supergirl, they had all the flying effects pretty much nailed.
Well it was 1984 and the effects had improved since Superman (1978).
They should have had her appear in Superman III

The editor of this movie had to have blind as a bat to have missed the wire at 0:07 pulliing the fake life size polaroid picture of Supergirl out of the water. Helen Slater couldn't have held her breath for 5 seconds so they could pull her out of the water, wow.

The movie was junk and Reeve was having issues with the Salkinds who fired Richard Donner during Superman II.

Supergirl is a good guy in the world and entire space universe
free speech: the powers scenes are so well produced in this movie too and she has this nobility and graceful manner and respect for others (a genuine sensitivity to others if not always being reactive unlike her cousin who can be proactive to stop for ex the nuclear arms buildupi first picked up the character in superman family (her best interpretation) and then in her own mags(always in command of her powers) but in the latest incarnation the writers were idiots constantly writing fighting and violent scenes w no real elaborate plots to intrigue the viewer(plus Helen slater was so Sensual and sexy in a non feminist way which is val appealing in todays day and age)
