Great reaction. I love rock music. It’s too bad that love song ballads have gone of style. There will always be people who are in love or who have unrequited love.
Agreed 1000% Everyone and their brother has covered this Leon Russell song! While there are many great covers, his performance of it is in another league and makes the others just pale in comparison.
From a time that truly needs to be Reborn .. sit down nite clubs, piano n sax energy, smooth heart touching melodies, WE need this style music once again ❤
Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "We've Only Just Begun", "Close To You", "Rainy Days & Mondays", "Superstar", "For All We Know", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)", "I Need To Be In Love" & so many more.
I am new to your channel, and I am also a new fan of The Carpenter. I accidentally hit on a reactor, and he was reacting to this song as I was looking out the window thinking about something personal that happened to me. Her angelic voice and the lyrics to this song just blew me away. I decided then to listen to some of her other hits and what an ear opener. If you feel that this song grabbed at your heart, you MUST I tell you react to the song "Ordinary fool". Lyrically this song is one of the best I have heard in a very long time. And her voice is super clear and crisp. Gosh I am so excited about this new music to enjoy. I hope you consider. By the way, I've decided to subscribe and support your channel.
It's always nice to hear the singers before the 90's , no auto tune ! Just think she used to sing from behind a drum set ! She didn't want to be out front .There are videos of her playing . 1 of the best voices ever !!!
Such a loss. I still remember the rainy morning I learned she had passed. I was at a 7/11 picking up some doughnuts and saw the newspaper headlines. So sad.
You would really appreciate the longer version of this song. It has a saxophone solo and you'll live it! Please look for it and listen, you'll love it!
Try "Rainy Days and Mondays". I grew up with my parents listening to the Carpenters and I loved all their music. Her voice was just fabulous and with her brother Richard on piano, harmonies and putting all their songs together, well what a team!!
This is "TV live", the studio recording is what you're hearing; but there are are pure live recordings of Carpenters also and they were terrific live too...
There is a new voice in town. Her name is Tori Holub. She's 19 and sings Carpenters songs! Amazingly well. It's only taken 40+ years to find someone similar, mate. Find her tribute to the Carpenters on RUclips. Karen had a low register that was mesmerizing. Between Richards arranging, piano and her singing, magic.
That beautiful woman's ANGELIC voice, and having seen her sad and tragic story unfold, pulls at my heartstrings like no other singer. Those passionate lyrics by Leon Russell, sung to passionate perfection by the world's greatest female singer, brings a tear to my eye that I can't suppress. Beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman! Rest in peace Karen.
Karen Carpenter - one of the finest voices, male or female of the 20th century. A bottom register to die for and such beautiful tone throughout. And this song, written by the the incomparable Leon Russell. Heaven on a stick
IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN ( KAREN CARPENTER & JONI MITCHELL ) KABIR, THAT'S FOR SURE, TIMELESS!!!💯😊VERY SAD☹ AND TRAGIC😮WHEN SHE PASSED R.I.P. TO THAT ANGEL! HER AND JONI WERE TRUE CONTRALTOS WITH THEIR VOICES.😊
try listening to more of them it will be worthwhile. One more time is a slow one and brilliant, those good old dreams, and Top of the world are 2 faster more upbeat songs maybe country
Karen was one of my singing idols growing up. You should react to Rainy Days and Mondays next. I still miss her. Another phenomenal voice is Linda Ronstadt. I suggest starting with You're No Good. Thanks for another great reaction.
The studio version is longer, I think it had another verse with a great saxophone solo. Check out the Carpenters song. Baby Its You, or the song, Hurting Each Other.
People at the record studio called her the one take wonder because she only needed one take. But they repeated them over n over cause they were both perfectionists.
My 2 fav singers who had pure lovely voices are gone now, Karen Carpenter & Olivia Newton-John who coincidentally were best of friends. They should have done a duet together as I can't recall that they ever did. I only hope they are singing together up in heaven in the heavenly choir. Miss them both. ❤❤
Karen was 3 years older than me and at the time no one had heard of anorexia. I remember she looked like a skeleton; not at all like herself. I loved her and her voice and she is missed. The only good thing was the beginning of recognizing the eating disorders anorexia and bulimia.
I grew up listening to Karen and my voice is actually very similar. (I'm also a Contralto like she was.) There have been some really good suggestions already listed, but I would also add, "Bless the Beasts and the Children," "Sing," her version of "Desperado" and "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft." From that same era, you also had artists like Barbra Streisand, Olivia Newton-John, Barry Manilow, Neil Sadaka, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt (GOT to do "Blue Bayou!!"), Helen Reddy, Melissa Manchester, Christopher Cross, Dan Fogelberg, Jim Croce.....SSOOOO many GREAT "Adult Contemporary" artists with timeless classics! Thanks for a quick trip down memory lane. 😉
Soooo many women singers from the 70’s : Carol King- Tapestry Album Melanie: Candles in the Rain-one of her hits Joni Mitchell: Both Sides Now and The Circle Game Judy Collins- The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Amazing Grace (also her version of Send in The Clowns is awesome) Joan Baez - Diamonds and Rust Carly Simon: Your So Vain; Anticipation( cute story about the inspiration for that tune and No, it isn’t a bottle of ketchup) among many others Joan Armatrading (spell?) Love and Affection Karen Carpenter: yesterday once more and I need to be in love; I’m on top of the world and a Christmas tune: Little Altar Boy
I've heard Adele's voice has a similar richness and clarity of Karen Carpenter's. Interesting you should say that. Karen's voice was one of a kind. soothing.
Yeah you're right. Adele is the closest we have to music like in the Carpenters. However, you should have reacted to the longer version on the album. 😊good reaction. 😊😊😊
Hi Kabir. It was really weird when I first saw the Carpenters that she was playing the drums and singing, while her brother played the piano. This video was recorded later in their career. She was already showing signs of the anorexia nervosa that would eventually kill her, and her voice seemed to lack the richness of her earlier years. RIP, Karen.
Can you please react to "Robert Cray's song- Smoking Gun" absolute classic song, from one of the all time great Blues men. Robert Cray's voice is outstanding, crazy good & his tone Amen Brother!
I'd have to agree Adele is about as close as it gets to Karen in today's music. Emoting being the key to both of their success. Karen was so good working the spectrum of innocent, playful, seductive, happy, sad or I think her best...pure melancholy.
How sad you picked this video to react to. It does not contain the complete song, which has a killer saxaphone solo. Much too short compared to the original version!😮😊
If you like this kind of music, try Michael Ball's albums. I know he's everywhere in the UK & probably a joke to younger generations, but there's a reason he's been so popular for so long. He even covers this song beautifully. Really great? His duet with Amy Wadge of "We've Got Tonight".(You can tell I'm a fan.) - Also, give Doo Wop music a try. Johnny Maestro & the Crests (later The Brooklyn Bridge) are a great example of the genre. Billy Joel's song, "For the Longest Time", is a good example, too.
Today is the 41 year anniversary of her death. This song really brings back her memory how great of a singer she was
And I have missed this woman every day of those 41 years, but thank you, God, for letting us know what angels sound like.
RIP Karen Carpenter....gone way too soon & greatly missed 🙏🕊🌹❤️
It was 41 years ago that we lost her. I'm still crushed.
Me too. 💔
Yeah, I was only 38 at the time. I'm 78 now. hard to believe its been that long... 40 years.....
Aren't we all?💔🎙🎶
Great reaction. I love rock music. It’s too bad that love song ballads have gone of style. There will always be people who are in love or who have unrequited love.
When you're alone at home or relaxing somewhere, she makes everything ok. You feel good and oddly comforted.
This song was written by Leon Russell. His version is worth listening to 😊
Agreed 1000% Everyone and their brother has covered this Leon Russell song! While there are many great covers, his performance of it is in another league and makes the others just pale in comparison.
Yes, Leon's version
'Top of the World' and 'Rainy Days and Mondays' have always been my favorite of theirs (despite being basically opposites in tone)
Superstar ❤🎶my favorite but love all of her songs !
That song can't help but touch your heart. Her voice goes right through you .she Is one of a kind
From a time that truly needs to be Reborn .. sit down nite clubs, piano n sax energy, smooth heart touching melodies, WE need this style music once again ❤
Yes!!

"We've Only Just Begun" was a super popular song for a first dance at weddings in the '70s.
Good music is timeless but it also gives you something in common to talk about with your grandmas and moms and dads.
Such an amazing voice.
Brilliant song! =) really enjoyed this and the reaction. Thanks Kabir!

Awesome thank. You
You nailed it. Her voice is mesmerizing. And I am shedding a few tears in her memory. Happens everytime I hear God's angel sing.❤❤❤❤❤

The Carpenters were one of my all time favorites. We've only just begun was a song we played at our wedding 45 years ago.
She died recovering from anorexia.
The greatest ever voice for me,stunning!
Her voice is hard to put in words. The emotional effects are spiritual. She does sing like she is singing to you personally.
Karen doesn't sing at you, she sings to your soul.
Try "Rainy Days and Mondays". I grew up with my parents listening to the Carpenters and I loved all their music. Her voice was just fabulous and with her brother Richard on piano, harmonies and putting all their songs together, well what a team!!
You need to do ‘Rainy days and Mondays’
This is "TV live", the studio recording is what you're hearing; but there are are pure live recordings of Carpenters also and they were terrific live too...
She has an amazing voice and was a very good drummer, they were very big in the early/mid 70's.
She was an amazing musical force, it's a shame we lost her to anorexia.
Rainy Days and Mondays is another great one, and Karen plays the drums on it. Lately, my go-to song is Solitaire.
I hope you would react to "This Masquerade" by the Carpenters.
I miss Karen Carpenter sooo much 😢RIP Karen 🌹
My friend recently lost her husband of 42 years and I sent her “Where do I go from here?” By the Carpenters … my heart aches for her …
Karen Carpenter - one of the finest voices, male or female of the 20th century. A bottom register to die for and such beautiful tone throughout. And this song, written by the the incomparable Leon Russell. Heaven on a stick
She was singing directly to you. She made us all feel that way
Karen definitely had a great unique voice, this song was written by Leon Russell and also released by Donny Hathaway
Karen Carpenter the best voice ever of all time for sure
IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN ( KAREN CARPENTER & JONI MITCHELL ) KABIR, THAT'S FOR SURE, TIMELESS!!!💯😊VERY SAD☹ AND TRAGIC😮WHEN SHE PASSED R.I.P. TO THAT ANGEL! HER AND JONI WERE TRUE CONTRALTOS WITH THEIR VOICES.😊

That was the beauty of Karen's voice. It seemed like she was singing only to you and was right there in the room.
Karen was one of my singing idols growing up. You should react to Rainy Days and Mondays next. I still miss her. Another phenomenal voice is Linda Ronstadt. I suggest starting with You're No Good. Thanks for another great reaction.
So sad when Karen died from anorexia. She had the voice of an angel.
The studio version is longer, I think it had another verse with a great saxophone solo. Check out the Carpenters song. Baby Its You, or the song, Hurting Each Other.
It feel personal😊

Written by the late and legendary Leon Russell.
Rest in sweet peace, Leon and Karen. ❤

Leon Russell does an amazing version of this song. You should try it.
Mac Dre “a song for you” Bay Area Classic.
❤❤❤❤❤
This is a tv edit. The original track lasted twice as long and had an instrumental break.
I've heard Adele's voice has a similar richness and clarity of Karen Carpenter's. Interesting you should say that. Karen's voice was one of a kind. soothing.
Check out “I Need to Be in Love” (Karen’s favorite) and “Goodbye to Love” (the birth of the power ballad)
Now this is my fav....ive onky been listening her since 69!
Ok….you HAVE TO do Crescent Noon by Carpenters
Yeah you're right. Adele is the closest we have to music like in the Carpenters. However, you should have reacted to the longer version on the album. 😊good reaction. 😊😊😊
What happened to the Sax solo?
Hi Kabir. It was really weird when I first saw the Carpenters that she was playing the drums and singing, while her brother played the piano. This video was recorded later in their career. She was already showing signs of the anorexia nervosa that would eventually kill her, and her voice seemed to lack the richness of her earlier years. RIP, Karen.
Actually this video would have been around 1972 - her battle with anorexia started in 1975 (this is well documented).
This actually a Willie Nelson song.
That's Karen my sweet friend she sings right to your soul
This is a short version of the song 😢😅 react to complete version 😊
This one and Superstar are my favorites from The Carpenters. Please listen to Donny Hathaway’s version of this song also 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good reaction Kabir, really ,review. You make me hopeful for the younger generation! Maybe you could do Simon and Garfunkle's The Boxer.
Oh, there is a lot out there that you haven't heard before, Kabir. 🤣
Can you please react to "Robert Cray's song- Smoking Gun" absolute classic song, from one of the all time great Blues men. Robert Cray's voice is outstanding, crazy good & his tone Amen Brother!
Whitney Houston has a live performance rendition that is also very good, different style of course. I'd recommend you listen to that one, too.
I'd have to agree Adele is about as close as it gets to Karen in today's music. Emoting being the key to both of their success. Karen was so good working the spectrum of innocent, playful, seductive, happy, sad or I think her best...pure melancholy.

And when my life is over she says....and it was over very quickly. All her songs are sad...she was sad, horrible Mother
Singing to you and feeling it was personal……yep that was Karen majority of fans say exactly the same thing
Remember their songs being popular when I was growing up. It's a shame what happened to Karen.
Bro, please do much much more Karen! Yol be very popular!!
Amy Winehouse hit those same low notes. Please check out her version. Big shame she went out almost exactly the same way Karen Carpenter did 😢
No one will ever top Donny Hathaway's version of this great song. That just my opinion.
Leon Russell wrote and performed..do yourself a favor and watch it
Now go listen to the Master Donny Hathaway, Im sing this song for you! Now that's a classic
Kabir, have you listened to AWB, Average White Band song, Play That Funky Music White Boy?
Play That Funky Music is by Wild Cherry
Not one of my favorites. You should check out "Rainy Days & Mondays".
You MUST hear Donny HATHAWAY'S version of this! Simply STUNNING.
Karen Carpenter had a lovely voice, but I have always considered their music as quite boring. Elevator music.
