I agree when they blew up they were definitely the heaviest and IMO had the best singer for active bands, but the biggest problem they had and this video filled in some of the gaps but I remember after they got known and started rising up the band was having problems and internal problems and they kind of dropped off and when they came back they never got back to their spot. I remember going to a show and thinking they should have been higher up on the line up
The silver lining to Sevendust being underrated is that they never received the kind of backlash that would’ve likely happened had they been overexposed like Limp Bizkit. Integrity not trendiness 💪
I’ve only heard good things about Sevendust. Morgan Rose has such a unique style of drumming. The band in general has such a HEAVY style and as a live act they are incredibly TIGHT. They sound better live than on the CD imo.
Man, you just dug up a wild memory, not a concert person myself but my ex back in '07 (we dated a few years prior to us being friends and seeing where it went at the time in '07, led to attending a concert with her because she had won tickets calling into a radio show... damn times have changed...) it was February 15th, 'Invitro, Diecast, and Sevendust' (the one I wanted to see) were playing this tiny little venue called "The Orpheum Theater" in Madison, Wisconsin, way different than thousands of people type places so we were basically right there with the now retired "General Patton" from the local rock station before he retired and the station sucked, announcing bands and drinking, enjoying one of his last nights doing what he loved, and when he introduced Sevendust and they came out it was the hardest rocking, best sounding, most enjoyable shows I've seen in my life. Sevendust sounds BETTER by such a huge margin in person! They have an energy that keeps me listening to them to this day. Funny enough too, on a side note, my best friend introduced me to their first self titled album in the summer of '97, so a decade later, seeing them in person and being blown away made a huge impression.
Certainly not bad, but they aren't exceptional, either. They're mediocre and only ever written average, radio-friendly hooks. I'm sick of people putting average creators on a pedestal like it's something to aspire to.
Slipknot and Sevendust were the first metal I heard. And Sevendust is my absolute favorite band. Witherspoon vocals and sound captured me and to this day their songs heal me and the song : “this life” makes me pause and think of my two sons. …And best concert I ever went too. To see them in person..amazing
Sevendust is THE band of my teenage years. Graduated and moved out on my own in 2001 and Animosity was my album for that whole year. LOVE these guys! Going to see them in Chattanooga in May, can't wait!
I saw Sevendust on a local radio show's Halloween show when they were out on tour supporting their first album. As soon as their set ended I went out to the lobby of the theater and bought their first album. That first album, Home, Animosity and Seasons are in constant rotation for me to this day. Fucking solid albums.
Lajon Witherspoon is defiantly one of my top five favorite vocalists . I usually focus on bass and drums but gawd dang he can sing with so much emotion and power. The Wait is my favorite song from these dudes
Before I watch this video I want to say Thank you RNRTS for covering this band. Sevendust was very influential on me as an artist. When I saw a Lejohn fronting this amazing band of musicians that told me as a young black teen into rock an skating despite loving inliving color but seeing Lejohn was the confirmation I needed that told me I could be a frontman in an rock n metal band. I had the honor of meeting my heros at a young age an may have went fan boy a lil bit. However when people leave such a mark on your life that thank you is never enough.
I absolutely love sevendust and got to see them before being signed at a tiny club in altlanta all of about 10ppl in attendance but they were fucking insanely good !
I was at a meet and greet and the band was just kinda floating around talking to people and LJ came up to me and my buddy and introduced himself. Was honestly one of the most lasting first impressions from a band and they’ve been one of my heavy favorites. Him and Pete from chevelle were the coolest people that came up to me
LJ’s vocals and Morgan’s drumming are the backbone of Sevendust… LJ’s vocals on “Black” are amazing and “Denial” has great vocals and drumming! Also, LJ’s melodic vocals on “Angel’s Son” is uplifting due to the sad lyrics in the song.
Saw Sevendust and met LJ a few years ago outside the tour buses. He took the time to talk, shake everybody's hand, and sign or take pics. Glad they're still together for so long
I really like Sevendust. They always felt a little underrated and their first 4 albums are awesome. I saw them live around 2000 or so and it was a good one.
I saw them on public access in '98, and the show blew me away. I picked up their CD as soon as I could after seeing that, and I've been an unshakable fan ever since!
Sevendust was one of the only bands that would stop in my hometown for shows, and stay after long enough to sign autographs and chat with the fans. Went to every show I could, not only as a fan, but out of respect. Truly one of the most humble bands out there.
Like a lot of Sevendust fans I've waited a long time for that epic, it all finally comes together in glorious fashion album from these guys. All the shit they've been thru (had no Idea, luv this RUclips channel), literally hit every branch on the cliche tree. They've got all the intangibles, the talent, and fortunately for us the perseverance to keep it going. I have faith in these guys. God knows, they've earned it. Sending all the good vibes I can muster their way. Vaya con Dios amigos
Went to a festival in 2000/2001 to see headliner Coal Chamber. Sevendust played and i fell in love with their music. Saw them 2 more times!! One of my favorite bands🤘🤘
One of my best friends got see them live, and their PA's went down mid song on their 2nd song into the set. They powered through, and despite being around 75ft from the stage, they could still hear witherspoon yelling and singing over the rest of them amps, speakers,, and crowd noise for the rest of their set. Thats F-ing amazing!! Being a fellow metal vocalist, im blown away with such raw power!!
I can second this opinion. I've seen them 3 times here in Florida at Janus Landings, Livestock, and at the Masquerade in Ybor City. I was able to meet them every show. They are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Love Sevendust! First time seeing them live in the late 90s, i was super impressed by clint and the bassist jumping on trampolines set up on the side of the stage and flawlessly playing while bouncing.
This band was the highlight of my woodstock 99 survival story. Sunday afternoon metal after much appreciated rain. By then everyone was tired, poor, and pissed, and this band came at the perfect time. They knew we were about to literally burn the place down. Look at the fucking rainbow!!
Sevendust is my favorite band of all time! ever since I heard "too close to hate" randomly playing in a circuit city store in 1998 I was hooked. I've seen them so many times live and almost always front row getting high fives and hand shakes from the band members. and one of the biggest highlights for me was singing a line in rumble fish when LJ put the mic right to my mouth as I was just singing along and I belted out "the slithering snake" and I have the video to prove it as I was recording:). I have guitar picks given to me from both guitarists during multiple shows. I am so glad that Sevendust has been around as long as they have and they are still making awesome music. please guys, never stop!
I discovered Sevendust through a “Summer of Loud” promo cassette the record store gave me back in ‘98. Black and Bitch were the 2 Sevendust songs on it and I was hooked on them from there. Ended up buying their first album a week later when payday came around. To this day Sevendust is still one of my all time favorite bands.
In 2001 I saw ozzy and Rob zombie and at the entrance a guy was giving out Sevendust and Soil demos. I was only 10 years and and jammed that 2 song demo on my Walkman to school every day! Loved these guys
I saw Sevendust at Ozzfest '98. That whole show was phenomenal, Sevendust included. By that point my buddies and I were already huge Sevendust fans. I thought they were already huge before that. It's strange to hear they were stalled before that.
Sevendust is one of my favorite bands I remember when I was younger my band saw them here in Rapid City SD and they were playing in Sioux falls SD the next night we ended up hanging out with them and I got a huge hug from them and we became good friends our band actually made the 6 hour drive the next day and saw them play again the next day they were touring with the band Cold and we became close with those guys as well. I will always love that band I'm 42 now and still am a huge fan 20 years later
Sevendust are an amazing band. The tours they went on with Staind and then CoLD in 2004 were some of their best shows ever. I've seen them so many times throughout the years but those tours, during that year were off the chain!
I remember when they first came out with the song "Black" as a single back in 1997. I only ever listened to their first two albums, I really liked "Home" too, not sure why I stopped after that one. After watching this video, I am going to to check out more of their albums. Great video btw.
Animosity, Seasons, Alpha, Cold Day Memory, Black Out the Sun are also great albums! Next, Chapter VII and the rest of their discography have also some very good tracks like Ugly, Pieces, Hero, Fear, The Past, Hope, Thank You, Not Today, Kill the flaw, Peace and Destruction, Sickness, god bite his tongue, unforgiven, moments, Feel Like Going On, What You've Become etc
I've always felt they never got the recognition they deserved. Especially when bands like Papa Roach, Linkin Park and (especially) Creed were tearing up the charts in the mid - 2000s. Sevendust is such a musically talented band.
Been listening to sevendust since they were crawlspace on that MK album. Seen them the most out of every single band at over 100 times. This band has had a tumultuous history but no matter what they continue to crank out solid music and bring 1000% to their lives shows. Absolutely love this band...and Alpha...believe it or not is my favorite album. It's also a bonus I got to meet them all since they recorded black out the sun and kill the flaw in my town. Pretty cool seeing one of your favorite bands just chilling around town all the time
1 of my all time favorites, I always liked their story of how they got started and when they first came up they were the heaviest and had the best voice in rock! This filled in some gaps and I remember they were 1 of the last real bands mtv actually played before they practically abandoned music.
When I first heard "Face To Face" as a kid, I was hooked on Sevendust...Morgan Rose is a drum god!!! Finally got to see them live a few years back and they KICK ASS live!!! \m/ \m/ Very underrated group and their music is perfect for working out!!! High tempo and high energy!
I absolutely love this channel!!! Thank you for doing this video. I rarely hear them and it is a real shame. Of course, I can get my ADHD version of Behind the Music...quick, informative and fulfilling. Keep up the great work. I've been watching for two years and it keeps getting better! Just saw your long video on Linkin Park is up...that is definitely next on my playlist.
Very nice guys. Saw them open for S.O.A.D. in 2001 in Denver, ran into them on my way to get a beer. Got to tell them how much I enjoyed their performance. They were so chill and polite. Their performance was outstanding.
Thank you so much for doing a video on Sevendust…I been a fan since the 90s and I was always ask why they don’t get the same love and attention like other greats in the rock upper ledge…I always thought their music is damn good..why not them? Even if their albums have hit mainstream doesn’t mean it’s bad..trust me I listen to all their albums and each one is better than the last. I still listen to them and I LOVE Lijon’s vocals..I think it’s the perfect blend and I’m glad Clint returned…the band feels whole again. Great stuff!
Amazing band and a great group of guys. Hung out with them after a show in Wichita and they recorded a cool video for my deployed husband. Super nice dudes.
I remember well, you couldn't go watch a show without Sevendust being on the bill as an opener. They played with everywhere! With everyone! It kind of blows my mind that they didn't more recognition than they had.
Dude. You AIN'T kidding. I just looked it up right now they're on tour with alter bridge which is basically creed. I mean 7 dust with creed!? 😅😂CRazy, but hey I used to like Creed so maybe I WOULD go to that lol
I discovered Sevendust by accident while searching Napster for the song Step Into The Light by Dust For Life. I found their song Denial and have been a fan ever since. It was definitely a happy accident 😀
my old friend , Don Dubose , filled in for Seven dusts drummer once . big show in orlando i think.been a while. well we just lost Don. he was in a car accident and didn't survive emergency surgery. he was an outstanding person and incredible drummer. Don lived , worked and played in Tampa fla. we were buds from the storage unit practice place on Skipper rd in tampa. those were the good old days. Stiff Kityy , Crystal Talon , Morbid Angel , Machinehouse Opera, IGMD and many many more made a music city out of that place.
Ive lived in Metro Atl most of my life. Got to meet Witherspoon and Rose at a Best Buy when I was like 10 when I was with my dad. I remember them being super nice to my young self. My dad loved talking to them. Absolute legends and kings
Great band! I still can't believe the sound of Home!! The change from their first album is crazy, not talking about songs, just that sound!!! 🤘My first Sevendust show was in 2001, they are a very good live band. Go see them if you can.
Lajon is truly one of a kind singer having whole range of clean and unclean vocals. The whole band Sevendust is truly fking awesome and i have listened to every song in all their albums...
i met LaJohn and the band working backstage at the World Music Theater in Tinley Park, IL. in 1999 on the Warped Tour. 7D were easily the coolest, nicest, warmest bunch of dudes in a wildly successful band I ever met. the guitar players Clint and John even talked to me, some nameless security guy, about playing guitar, i got to watch their set from the side of the stage. I felt like I was hanging out with old friends, despite having just met em. I've always remembered that, always loved 7D's music.
Back in the day they used to practice at the same space as my first wife's band. Got to hang with them a few times in Atlanta and Athens. They were all very cool and the nicest guys you want to meet. Very talented band by all means.
Lajon is so underrated 🤌🏾🔥the Blood & Stone LP is such a good album and for as older band like theirs, it’s fits with current metal acts. A kid today could hear it and love it like it was a Dayseeker or something
The Southside Double-Wide acoustic set/album is just an awesome piece of musicianship. Lajon's vocals live are brilliant and Morgan killing it on the drums but at the same time not overpowering the acoustic guitars and bass. Well worth a listen
It would be interesting to hear Snake Nation and how their songs were like to see if Sevendust's trademark Ham-Hocked/Ham-Fisted/Fake Anger Aggro-Metal sound were there even back then.

I believe that Sevendust are so underrated and deserve to be more popular than they are.
They’re the only band I wish could get more popular trough the help of TikTok 😂
I agree when they blew up they were definitely the heaviest and IMO had the best singer for active bands, but the biggest problem they had and this video filled in some of the gaps but I remember after they got known and started rising up the band was having problems and internal problems and they kind of dropped off and when they came back they never got back to their spot. @@austintrousdale2397 a very good point but it's odd to me, because they have so much melody in their music.
I concur
One of the best and most criminally underrated bands of the 1990s.
And today. They're still releasing bangers.
I’ve only heard good things about Sevendust. Morgan Rose has such a unique style of drumming. The band in general has such a HEAVY style and as a live act they are incredibly TIGHT. They sound better live than on the CD imo.
This is one of the few nu metal bands I still fuq with. Lajon is one of the best voices in all of metal. 🤘
@@gratewight69 Absolutely
Agree, I've seen them 3 time's, and all 3 shows where fucking crazy Good!

Seasons is one of the best albums I've ever heard. It's a shame they never got the recognition they deserve. ( Like King's X)
Yes!!! Seasons is still one of my favorite albums , it one of those you can just let it play and every song is a banger
@@bdeezy2962 And you feel ripped off if you don't hear the whole Damn thing!
truth!
Exactly!!!
Agreed! Seasons is one of the best albums of the early 2000's!
These guys cannot make bad music. Period. They earned their place as my favorite band of all time. I can't wait for the new album.
Certainly not bad, but they aren't exceptional, either. They're mediocre and only ever written average, radio-friendly hooks. I'm sick of people putting average creators on a pedestal like it's something to aspire to.
Use my comment as an unlike button for this guy ^ since youtube took off the number of dislikes
I'll never forget first time hearing "Black". It still hits me hard and fires me up to this day (since like 20 yrs ago). Awesome band..
These guys are some of the nicest musicians that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting…their music being awesome is just a bonus!
I saw seven dust once. I think they were w/ korn. I think it was the sick & twisted tour. Clint was hot

Soooooooo underrated! My absolute favorite band!
Love this band
Are you kidding me? Their first album is incredible......I LOVE that album.
I'm so happy you've covered these absolute legends
❤ they are absolutely amazing
Crazy I’ve been listening to nothing but Sevendust the past two weeks and this pops up in my feed. Takes me straight back to 98
Sevendust is one of my favorite “why aren’t they more popular” bands and this video kinda explains it I think.
One of the best bands I've had the pleasure to meet and chill with. Morgan is like a father to me these days.
Amazing band and a great group of guys. Hung out with them after a show in Wichita and they recorded a cool video for my deployed husband. Super nice dudes.
I found both Sevendust (Feed) and Dark New Day (Pieces) through WWE SVR
Feed!
Without a doubt MY FAVORITE BAND OF ALL TIME! No band like them...... but if you want to hear a similarly good band "Fire From The Gods"
I saw Sevendust play on the main stage at Ozzfest 1998, great performance.
I remember well, you couldn't go watch a show without Sevendust being on the bill as an opener. They played with everywhere! With everyone! It kind of blows my mind that they didn't more recognition than they had.
Dude you ain't lying I was just thinking seven dust has got to be one of the bands other than gwar that I seen the most live they played with everyone
Dude. You AIN'T kidding. I just looked it up right now they're on tour with alter bridge which is basically creed. I mean 7 dust with creed!? 😅😂CRazy, but hey I used to like Creed so maybe I WOULD go to that lol
I've seen Sevendust live a couple times and each time was awesome
I discovered Sevendust by accident while searching Napster for the song Step Into The Light by Dust For Life. I found their song Denial and have been a fan ever since. It was definitely a happy accident 😀
Well damn, there is someone else who's heard of Dust for Life
They are one of the best bands on Earth. Great live. I had the opportunity to meet them and man are they a group of the nicest guys I have ever met.
Great video. Great band. So unique and wonderful. I finally need to see them!!
sevendust has always been SOOO under-rated, criminally so... Lajon is such a great singer.
my old friend , Don Dubose , filled in for Seven dusts drummer once . big show in orlando i think.been a while. well we just lost Don. he was in a car accident and didn't survive emergency surgery. he was an outstanding person and incredible drummer.
Sevendust was the first metal show I ever went to. I will forever love these guys.
Great band! I still can't believe the sound of Home!! The change from their first album is crazy, not talking about songs, just that sound!!! 🤘My first Sevendust show was in 2001, they are a very good live band. Go see them if you can.
They played a concert on my base in Iraq my first tour . It was amazeballs
Thank you for the video. Love these guys!
Loved everything they've put out since the beginning 🤘
Awesome group, AMAZING live! Had the pleasure in the early 2000's at their height, it was great.
Very down to earth guys. They were willing to hang out with us after a show and have drinks.
This was a great story. You have more then earned yourself a follower.
ThAnk you!
That debut album was awesome.
Amazing band, been a fan of these guys for a long long time.
Sevendust my favorite band and going nowhere. They will relax then comeback for us to enjoy great live shows.
Just saw them this last september in a small 800 person venue with Nonpoint. Ive been a fan for over 20yrs for both bands. Both blew me away!
