  • Due to ocean dredging around Oak Island, NC & Holden Beach, NC, it has caused some prehistoric artifacts to be washed up on the local beaches. The artifacts I'm referring to are called Sea Biscuits. Sea Biscuits are similar to sand dollars. Around here, they are considered a beach-combing treasure. These sea biscuits are around 1.5" to 2.0" thick and hard like rocks. They have a cool star looking design on top. Some have estimated that sea biscuits could be 30 million years old. My wife has only found 1 sea biscuit her entire life.
Go to my "About" page to send me an email and I will disclose the exact location if you want to go find some of these yourself.

I had never heard of Sea Biscuits before. I am 58 years old. Being in a Facebook group, I have learned about different shells and such. Just this past Wednesday thru Friday , my Daughter and I were at the Secret Location. There were massive amounts of Sea Biscuits on the beach and in the surf. We arrived right at low tide. We had an awesome time. Luckily, we only live 4 hours from the area. We hope to make another trip sometime next month. Thanks for video and info.

Very cool finds! The 2nd one you picked up & turned over after you cleaned them up a little has a great shot of their mouth (in the center) or their "teeth-like structures" used to crush open shells or protective coatings of their prey. Nice haul.

Some of those fossils are way older than 30 million years old. The sea Biscuits belong to the genus Hardouinia and erode out of the Peedee Formation which is over 70 million years old from the Late Cretaceous Period.

I've never seen one of those except in gift shops.
I find petrified clams along the ICW in Myrtle Beach where they dynamited through coquina rock to make the canal. I've also found them in limestone ledges along the beach. Most of those fossils in limestone and coquina are about 30 million years old.
