  • This video explains about what is hydrostatic pressure, how to calculate it. It also briefs about variation of hydrostatic pressure with respect to height. Video explains the hydrostatic pressure application for vertical pressure vessel and water tank in ANSYS Workbench. It compares the pressure applied in ANSYS with analytical calculations.

    Thank you for this wonderful video. Please make a video of simulation of the vessel it would be more realistic and interesting learning ever on RUclips and seriously your content is too rich and its no ever available especially in the field of ONGC with the application of ANSYS tool . I recently started my career in this field your videos are helping me a lot .
    Anticipating more rich contents from your channel.

      Greetings , just a small doubt why have you not extracted mid surface for the whole body and then mesh . you directly mesh on the body itself although middle portion of tank is shell body( less thickness if me right) you have generated a tetra mesh on it? for nozzle tetra is ok but for tank shell y tet. your other video of mid surface creation makes me to ask this silly question. y have u not extracted mid surface for , tank , dome portion and supports? plz clarify

      Hello Mahesh,
      I just wanted to show the interpretation of hydrostatic pressure behaviour. Course tetra mesh not at all recommended. Fine hex or tetra mesh is good to capture bending behavior. You can do shell mesh in case on pressure application while if temperature will come then it is difficult to apply different temperature on both side of shell. Also stress linearization is different for shell mesh..

    Why acceleration direction is in positive x- axis...why not in negative that is downward direction?

    Very helpful tutorials, can you please give me some tutorials on how to simulate two-phase flow (water and air ) in a pressure vessel. thank you very much for your time to consider my comment

    Is the model that you've imported a shell diagram with no thickness or does it have thickness?

    With hydrostatic pressure is not calculated water weight on the support. Are you calculated force reaction on the support? Thanks…

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 года назад

      Here, we explained how to apply the hydrostatic pressure as well as how to perform the analysis as per ASME. You can consider the water weight as separate loads in dead weight case.

    The acceleration is acting in the negative z direction but you only mentioned it in positive, doesn't it effect the result. Please clarify.

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 года назад

      Hi.. If you want to see effect of acceleration in positive direction, then you need to apply it in negative direction, while for standard earth gravity loading, it is opposite. Gravity acts only in applied direction.

    In same analysis can we know the stresses coming on pressure vessel because of hydrostatic pressure.

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  4 года назад

      Yes, You can do! You just need to extract the stresses (Also you can do stress liberalization).

    Thank you very much for your helpplease when we apply hydrostatic pressure, the weight of water is took into account but the weight of steel isn't , please can you explain me that i am very confused by this point of gravity.

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  6 лет назад

      You can apply standard earth gravity to account weight and check reaction after simulation, it will match with weight

    • @saraelbahji4524

      i applied it but the result after simulation is different with not appliying it , what is correct? applying gravity of steel or not aplying it ? thank you for your patience

    Thank you sir. I want to do analysis for knowing deformation of a plate at a depth of 1000 meters in seawater. How do I do the analysis if I know the pressure value (1.054e+7 Pascal) and density. I dont know the hydrostatic acceleration. Can you please help me with this problem?

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 года назад

      Plate Seawater have different scenario. It may subjected to not only pressure but also wave and current loads too. Hydrostatic is different scenario ex. Vessel containing full or half fluid have some pressure head which we adds in internal pressure to consider the effect of fluid in vessel. It is maximum at the bottom and minimum at the top.

    Hallo Sir,
    do you have any tipps for me?
    i want to perform modal analysis of a plate immersed in water.
    or just ideas how to implement the added mass for the modal analysis in workbench.
    So many papers says that it is possible using acoustic elements. (using Modal acoustic and harmonic acoustic/ some kind of couple analysis). but I couldnt figure its out.
    would be very thankful if you would have any kind of information for me
    Regards
    Umang

    • @umanggupta950
      @umanggupta950 3 года назад

      all I have so far is to use the analytical calculation for the plate for a specific mode. and implement that weight directly using the distributed mass . ;P XP

    • @graspengineering9249
      @graspengineering9249  3 года назад +1

      You can try with prestress modal analysis. First perform the static analysis ( equivalent load of body immersed in water) and then carry that results in modal analysis.

      @@graspengineering9249 thanks for your reply.
      actually I am working with free free bodies ( Planes and Ships) so no boundary conditions.
      but i have solved it now using modal acoustic :)
      it was tough understanding its results. since you get not only pure structural modes in the results but also pure acoustic modes and coupled modes.
