Excellent demonstration on a common issue that can be very expensive without this knowledge. Really appreciate your time and patience. Thank you.
Good tip, I have put a resistor in the glove box for emergency repair on the road.
Thank you for doing this video because most ppl don't explain the real symptoms, especially the black smoke. Let me also say, the problem with the failure really is inside the part, specifically at the internal bearing. The bearing fails and the shaft does not rotate well. Cleaning the outside really does nothing
Thanks for the info! Always appreciated 😄
@@madetoexplore I've been dealing with this problem for 2 months and asking every so call diesel expert, ppl, shops, etc. I literally had to eliminate every other thing to find this. Even switching one injector at a time. Even had to take the turbo apart twice to clean for soot. I finally part 2 and 2 together with the sound of the engine. What a long, frustrating process and no one had a clue. I'm on the road traveling and now waiting on this part to be delivered. Once I figured out what was wrong, I then searched RUclips and came across your video. Boy, I am mentally exhausted from this one for sure. Thanks again
GREAT VIDEO, HELPING SO MANY PEOPLE FROM BEING ABUSED AND TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF! ALWAYS THUMBS UP!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks Mike!
Really useful video on replacing an EGR valve!
Easy to follow 😊 ... i did the plugs already, wow it took me less than 1 hour to replace all 5 ... i guess the egr is next then 😁 thanks!
EGR is usually pretty easy too! Good luck
@@madetoexplore I did the injectors and found out that my engine has a broken bolt inside, so they added threads on top... I will need a bolt cut to size everytime 😅
Excellent video! Showed me what I needed to know. Thank you. My question is the bottom bolt will not loosen. I am afraid it will break and then I will be in trouble. What is the best way to get it loose
That’s great! Is it just spinning without coming out or is it stuck? Since the threads are aluminum sometimes they can be stripped. I would try and remove it carefully and try to get some PB blaster on there
All kinds of EGR experiences but similar to yours. I'm going to replace mine after cleaning many, many times. Will I need to "talk" to the CPU to recognize the new EGR or should it basically be plug n play? I'm running a 2011 2500. Great video.
Thanks! It’s a plug and play. The link is in the description of the video too. Mines still working great!
Was your EGR valve making a whining/humming sound right after you turned off the engine and removed the key from the ignition ?
I’m not sure, I never checked that. It would make sense but it would depend where the flap gets stuck. Some get stuck closed and some get stuck open.
Very very good
Thanks!
What kind of resistor? That would be helpful!
2.2 k-ohm 1/2 watt resistor
Copy that. I figured it out by studying the lines on another video. I am curious About this bypass. If I do this I understand that it won’t signal to my van to get it into limp mode but would it give me horsepower? Because I feel like I’m accelerating very slowly and there’s still not enough power. I haven’t put that resistor in yet
I am accelerating pretty slowly and I still feel like I don’t have enough power. I have not put the resistor in yet
@@ryandavis141 it definitely won’t add any horsepower. I notice a small decrease in performance when my EGR was bypassed actually. This would explain the increase of fuel mileage that some people have reported. Slower acceleration = increased fuel mileage
Thanks for the helpful video! Another sprinter mechanic recommended antifreeze around the EGR when replacing-I guess his was a lot harder to take out. Any reason not to do this? Thanks.
Sorry I don’t quite understand, what do you mean by antifreeze around the EGR?
@@madetoexplore I think he meant anti seize. I know I had a bear of a time breaking mine free.
@@adphotoman8440 right. Coolant hoses can be tough. Using a twisting motion usually works really well. I guess you could put a little anti seize around it if you wanted to give it a try.
What's the value or color code of the resistor
@@KiloFeenix I believe it was 1,900 ohms
good
Thanks
suggestions for my 2003. limp mode and lots of black smoke. different egr than your. any suggestions for my particular year? thanks much!
Any codes? I was getting lots of black smoke and limp mode when my EGR started sticking
Did your sprinter had more power with the resistor or with the new EGR?
@@silasf94 didn’t notice a difference
Shame gde doesn’t have the tunes available. Should be able to do anything to your own vehicle when you want.
Agreed!
I thought mine was egr. Turned out to be loose air intake control arms. They sit under the oil cooler down right under the turbo outlet piper and are part of the intake manifold. If they have play in them the comp cant tell where they sit in space and throws codes. Mine happens when accelerating rapidly like on a freeway ramp. I found this out after replacing the egr didnt fix the issue. Now the real
Fix is 2-5 k.
Yikes! That’s an expensive fix. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully it’ll help someone else 👍
I have replaced my EGR Vale on ML350 cdi 2010 but I still get an Error Exhaust Gas Recirculation control circuit range/performance
Might be a wiring issue or bad EGR valve? There also might be other sensors locating along the exhaust.
How do I fix it .
Cool!
How long did it last this new EGR ?
@@silasf94 still going strong! No issues at all and I’ve put 60k km on since I installed it
@@madetoexplore what is the difference with the resistor and with a new EGR ????
So did the EGR valve you installed work? I’m having underboost problems and took the egr out to clean it. It does go back but it’s pretty slow to go back. I don’t want to pay OEM price on this van with 500,000 miles so I was hoping the eBay one would work.
I’ve only put 10,000 miles on the eBay one but I haven’t had a problem since I changed it! I’d recommend it
I went with one from eBay and it did not last long at all. Has developed a leak and triggers loss of boost pressure. Only put about 2-3000 miles on it
Thanks great 👍
Glad you enjoyed!
Was limp mode in drive and in neutral or just in drive?
Just in drive
@@madetoexplore thank you. I'll check mine. Same issues here
Found the Size of the resister Below ... I have a 2013 ( Sprinter ) so there are 4 wire inputs in the electrical Plug.. Which ones to use ? Ty dude.
Sorry John! I’m not to sure with the newer sprinters.
Can you do that on a 2014 sprinter 3.0 ?
Sorry I don’t have any experience with the 3.0L but I would imagine the process would be similar
Ground and power or signal wire
Not to sure
What was the pin use to bypass u know?
Not to sure!
(has trouble starting and I have to jump it. Have to connect it to my sienna for like five minutes and then it will start)
I have issues when my 2006 sprinter is sitting outside over night and it gets below around 30 degrees F. Can it be the EGR valve? Battery is new and mechanic says doesn't sound like alternator issue.
No it doesn’t sound like the EGR valve. If the battery is new and the voltage is higher than 12v when the engine is off then I would check your positive/negative connections to your starter. Keep an eye out for broken wires/loose rusty connections as well.
I had to replace the main grounding wire that ran from the battery to the engine block on our sprinter.
@@madetoexplore okay but this issue only happens when it's very cold outside
@@J87513 does the engine turn over or not at all?
@@madetoexplore no it doesn't....unless I jump it for couple minutes. And yes I do have some antigel stuff in the gas. Maybe not enough?
@@J87513 if the starter isn’t turning over then the starter may be bad but I would bet it’s the main ground wire going to your engine block or the positive wire to the starter. Wire isn’t as conductive in lower temperatures.
Are their two different type of EGR valves for these sprinters?
No, not that I know of
@@madetoexplore Depending upon the year of the Sprinter. My 2015 3500 had two coolant hoses.
@@michaelt2961 sorry, I was just thinking of the T1N models. Each model probably has a different EGR valve
yes for T1N there's two different types for OM612 up to 2003 and 2004-2006 for OM647.
The resister trick is incorrect and does not work for the 2004-2006 as shown on here.
@@mannyst1nvan it’s not incorrect…worked great on my 2005 sprinter. Drove halfway across Canada with the resistor trick.
My egr valve is stuck really bad. I’ve banged on it with zero luck getting it even to budge. I don’t know how I’m going to get it loose. Yours just came right out 🤷🏼♂️🤦♂️😂
Have you tried to remove it when the engine is hot?
What is the continuously sustaining beep coming from the EGR??
Not sure? I don’t think the EGR can make a beeping sound
What make and model is the van
2005 Dodge Sprinter 3500
Anyone know if the dual channel diesel tuner bypasses the egr valve?
Not sure!
what year surprised that the bypass worked
My van is 2006. It seems to be hit or miss whether the bypass works. Worth a try though.
This is illegal. Don't do this!
That depends on where you live and local regulations.
what is legal on this planet if it benefits your fellow human being? Almost nothing!
