  • THOUSANDS of British holiday flights have been hit by suspected Russian jamming - with aviation sources branding the tactic “extremely dangerous” and a major threat to air safety.
The electronic attacks render satnavs useless so aircraft are unsure of routes and struggle to tell others where they are.

Airline pilot here, just to debunk a few of the misinformation that the hysterical mainstream media like to spew out.
    1. Specific aircraft cannot be targetted by these jammings, so it's incorrect to say that only British flights are affected, it's any aircraft operating within that region.
    2. It is by no means dangerous to fly through these areas, aircraft have an incredible amount of redundancies built into them and from my experience we can EASILY continue to navigate safely without any GPS signals at all. We have ground based radio stations that we can use to get bearing and distance information off of, on top of that we have highly accurate gyroscopes and accelerometers on board that can calculate velocity and position via integration without ANY external signals from ground based radios or GPS signals and it is very easy for the pilots to interpret.
Hope this clears things up for you all, and if you plan on traveling anytime soon I hope you have a wonderful journey and peace of mind knowing that the Russians can't spoil it for ya!

The article is kind of well written but air traffic is not solely dependent on GPS.
Russians are just trying to stop drones and maybe even try to harrash NATO countries. Unlike vatniks in the east, local airlines know how to fly safely.

I've been retired from aviation for a while, but I believe they keep selected VOR/TACAN facilities as a national backup plan. There is a plan called Security Control of Air Traffic and Air Navigation Aids or SCANTANA. This is basically martial law of the national airspace system. I was working during 9 1 1 and it was activated.

Russia doesn’t care if it jams itself. Only Russian civilians use GPS, in their mobile phones, and the Russian state doesn’t really care what they think.
The Russian state probably simply say it is a necessary defence measure against Ukrainian and NATO cruise missile attacks on Russian cities, and tell Russian civilians to use paper maps to navigate their cars until the end of the war.
