Thank you so much! I had not used my machine in several years but it was working perfectly when i put it away. I got it out today and the hand wheel would not turn and the indicator lights did not come on. I was so upset until I watched your video to the end, fortunately! The bobbin winder was on! Thanks again! 😂
Evy, THANK YOU so much. Whenever I have a glitch with my Sashiko machine, I watch your videos. You have helped me enjoy my Sassygirl tremendously. Thank for sharing your knowledge with us. Lou
Thank you so much! I bought my sashiko machine second hand and worried about the missing stitches and broken thread. Also the machine made a silently metal "pling" after every stich. Just if the latch wire or the needle got stuck for half a second. Then I watched your video and it helped me to check needle and latch wire and to bring them in the right position. Now my machine runs without skipped stitches. Thanks and best wishes from Germany Brigitte
I bought a used one off eBay and "no returns" had me nervous. It didn't work and I broke the needle trying to figure it out, but the bobbin winder lever had shifted! A dry run without a needle and it is running perfectly! So glad I didn't get scammed! Thanks for saving the day and for all the amazing videos you make!
The bobbin winding trouble got me when I first tried to use my Sashiko. I was heartbroken, it had worked fine in the store. It took some panicked moments before I realized the trouble. I have learndd so much from your Sashiko videos! Please keep them coming. Ann M.
Thanks for your reply Evy, good to know I am on the right track, still a mystery why it's not seating properly despite your great instruction videos.... Your tutorials are really great, keep them coming 😃Thanks, Jules
Hi Evy, I load my bobbin like you said, but when it comes to giving it a gentle pull to get it to the tension/ cutter it won't flow freely at all, it seems jammed, this only happened after a bit of a jam up, which I cleared seemingly ok. Is there anything I should be looking out for that I am missing .... thanks, Jules
Hi Julie; You've discovered why we need that gentle pull! If it won't pull then it won't thread properly either - so best to take the bobbin out and redo making sure it is seating properly in the case, threading out the right way, caught in the C slot so that it is freely moving through that slot. Watch the "How to thread the Baby Lock Sashiko" video - you might find that helpful. Sometimes the thread is not positioned in that C slot on the bobbin case correctly and it will actually be caught under the flap and sort of stuck. I hope this helps!
I can't get the bobbin thread to come up to the top. I have changed the latch hook and needle. Re did the bobbin inserting it as you say and it is just not catching when I turn the wheel toward me. I even tried a new bobbing.
Sorry you are having trouble! See product support resources here- babylock.com/support Our customer support team is available M-F to answer questions like these.
My doorbell lights are not working and I can't get the flywheel to move forward to thread the needle? I watch the video on the bobbin and attended a workshop on it as well. HELP, Please
Hi Laura, we are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with threading the needle on your Baby Lock machine. If this issue hasn't been resolved, feel free to contact our product support team through this link - www.babylock.com/support/contact
Help please!!!! I have Sashiko 1. Can anyone tell me why is it lately whenever I finished stitching I raised the needle to the top position by pressing the position button, raised the pressure foot and tried to pull the fabric and thread straight back behind the needle bar to remove as usual, but now the thread will be stuck so I'm unable to move the fabric back then the thread will break right there when I tried to move the fabric back. I looked through the whole book but it doesn't says what the problem is. Thank you in advance.
Hi Tiffany! I'm so sorry for the difficulty! Without seeing your machine in person, this sounds like a technical question you'll need to ask your Baby Lock retailer about. Thank you!
I'm 3/4's of the way into finishing a 48" square baby quilt and my Sashiko was working beautifully when, all of a sudden, it jams. It seems to happen about 4 inches into my stitching, sometimes skipping a stitch an inch or so before it jams. I've changed needles, latchwires, rewound bobbins, cleaned it, loosened the bobbin tension AND had it in for service. It was returned to me in working order as demonstrated by a sample of quilting on a fabric/batting sandwich that I had provided to the Baby Lock dealer when I dropped off my machine. Of interest, is that the baby quilt is backed with a Batik, the sample is not. However, when I stitch on the sample at home, it acts similarly, but takes longer to jam. I'm returning to the dealer today, but was wondering if anyone had some insight as this baby is due SOON! I don't think the thread (MAXI-LOCK TEX 27) I'm using is an issue as it has been the same spool that was used on most of the quilt already.
Oh my! So sorry to hear of your trouble. You've done all the right things to remedy the problem. I think you are making the right choice in taking back in. I would sit down with their tech person and let them watch you sew on the project to see if they can tell what's going on. On a side note, just so you know, some batik fabric can cause grief as it is so tightly woven and very densely dyed. Sometimes the print causes the fabric to be uneven in places, especially if it has an overprint of a foil. Anything like this could cause your needle to hesitate. (I've actually watched that happen!) When that happens you will skip stitches and jam. One more heads-up, watch how you sew too. One of the things that was the hardest for me to learn was to let the feed dogs do the work, which means, no pushing or pulling of the fabric as it sews. So don't hold back on the fabric - at all - and don't try to feed it under the foot, just let the fabric feed with only guidance from you. I hope you get your Sassy Girl back in working order soon!
I'm also having some issues. I'm sewing a flannel lap quilt. 3/4 the done and I'm getting loops on the top. Thread isn't breaking. Just skipping. I've changed needle and wire. Cleaned and oiled. I just got this machine and it's my first attempt. I've also gone threw several of those wires. Is that normal?
Love your tutorials. Have a special problem with changing light to the proper setting. Orange light or needle down will not go off and allow to change to bobbin light. Anyone have this problem Machine is new to me so I may be doing something wrong.
I would dearly love to own one of these machines, but for the life of me I can not understand why it is so expensive ! It only has a bobbin, not top thread, no top tension and just does one stitch. Don't get me wrong, I think its a great idea, but im having a hard time trying to justify the expensive on such a plain and simple machine.
Hi Cindy! This free Sashiko class might be helpful for you! Evy goes through all the details on threading! sewathomeclasses.com/getting-to-know-sashiko
I have watched this video prior to sending my message. My main question is concerning the thread in the "rabbit ears" . Once I turn the fly wheel twice to bring the thread to the top, it does NOT stay threaded in both ears when I pull the thread through the plate. It comes out of the outer ear and stays in back ear. I worked with it over an hour and could not get it to stay threaded in both ears. I could not see a close up of the ears/thread in the bobbin area once this happened in the video or it wasn't mentioned verbally to see if this was the norm. I finally decided to try sewing and it did sew. I'm not not sure if the stitching is affected by the thread being in only one ear. Does it affect the tension? Could you verify this for me? I have just gotten the machine serviced because it was not winding a bobbin or responding to the pushing the doorbell and it is less than a year old so it is still under warranty. The service tech at the shop where I bought it replaced something on the fly wheel and said it was working fine, according to the quilt shop manager. Thank you in advance for your reply.
Hi Cindy! I asked one of our product support specialists. She said that the thread needs to pass through both rabbit ears JUST for the initial set-up. Once the thread has been brought to the top, the second rabbit ear no longer holds the thread. The two ears are there simply to position the thread for the initial pick-up. If you load the bobbin with just one rabbit ear threaded, the machine will not pick up the thread to form a stitch. You can be assured that the machine is functioning correctly, and the thread should just be in one rabbit ear at this point. Thank you for asking!

Thanks so much. Your videos are so helpful. So many useful tips.
Thank you that was very helpful.
Thank you again for another reminder. Looking for more tension ideas please.
Thank you for this trouble shooting video. Would you make a video on using some of the special feet to make a garment project using the Sashiko 2 ?
Thank you so much Evy.
My brush on my bobbin holder is worn down. Is ok to be using it?

Agree. Sticker shock for real!
$2700- no computer, only one stitch. Why?
When I load my bobbin and the thread comes out of the outer rabbit ear before I go to the next step of getting the thread on the big toe.
