Thank you for documenting this racing/engine building history. I love hearing stories from the guys in the hay days of hotrodding. Anderson, Pink, Banks; my lord wouldn’t it be a blast to have them all in a room over dinner & drinks.
I worked at this shop a little after graduating high school starting off as a grinder and eventually helping in other areas. Great group of people and it was awesome to work here!
I got to know Brad and his son Greg back in 1999.. went by his shop as well. My brother sponsored Greg Anderson that year for funny car at Pomona and Phoenix, running a bae engine in a trans Am bodied car. My brother's successful business was just around the corner from Brad's (BAE) company. ....fun times, and going backstage with all access pit pass at Pomona is huge
Not to take away from Brad in any way shape or form. At 1957 Garlits ran a 392 with a Schafer clutch eight Stromberg carburetors 98% Nitro 2% benzene. 186 and change at 8:36 seconds. If my memory is correct. Just a clutch. Duplicate that today and they'll tell you to get the hell out of here. As it was basically built with muffler pipe. You talk about riding on a bomb. If you care to contact garlic Museum in Ocala Florida and Order his pamphlet entitled Don garlit speed Secrets 1960. That's the Year this old man was born. I'm at dawn last year and he gave me 10 minutes in private because I knew his personal friend Paul vanderly rest in peace. And garlic personally told me how to set up the carburetors. God bless these Giants they should study their brains computers analog
