In this country, NYC hands down. I spent hours wandering around Times Square just shooting candids. In Europe, any city, but I think I got my best shots in Venice.
Getting Hugh to answer 21 questions in 9 minutes is - Hold that thought - a minor miracle LOL It usually takes him 21 minutes to answer ONE question! Great subject, great interview.
Enjoyable video. A challenge to Hugh and all street photographers would be to expand one’s attention beyond the comfortable 1st world cities of NYC, Paris, London etc (which are all relatively easy to work in) and try to capture life in the developing world, where most of humanity lives. We need to see more of Mumbai, Dhaka, Lagos, Dakar and so many other huge cities. So many stories to be told there.
First time I know more about Hugh. Thanks for sharing your thought and experience! Another one, I really hope to watch Sabastiao Salgado will be in the next session! Thanks!
If you have the opportunity, scout Lisbon [Portugal 🇵🇹] for your street photography in Europe. And, by the way, have something to eat and drink. I'm pretty sure it would not disappoint you 😉
My girlfriend is taking me for my birthday on august 25 for my birthday!!! Never been in New York City, our first time. We Would like to have our pic taken by a photographer, we really have a hard time taking photos as couple. any suggestion on a photographer in Manhattan??? It will definitely be amazing for us to do this in NY!!
NYC, along with SF and perhaps Chicago have to be the top spots for street photography because it's literally a street photographer's playground. I mean people like Jay Maisel say places like NYC are great places for street photography partially because if you f-up on one shot, there's probably a dozen more you can work on. Basically you don't run out of options for opportunities in those areas. Now in a small town of 1000 people, yeah your options may be limited, but also a good street photographer should be able to capture moments no matter where they are (of course larger cities like NYC give you WAY MORE opportunities).
@@BandH Thank you for the prompt reply. I dug a little deeper after posting the question and found him and followed him and his wife. Thank you for this series.
Good answers man, all right except the lens, 28 Apo Summicron but for that price you are better of with a Q, or 50 Summilux or Apo Summicron, hehehehe. B/W rules!!! Success
Wondering how he keeps from being robbed. The last time I went out to do street photography I was held up by two thugettes who relieved me of my Leica.
Which city would you take street portraits in?
Edinburgh and of course NYC.
how much time would I have for the assignment ?.- I'm sure Hugh has been photographing for YEARS in New York , so...............

This is so true!
On the other hand, asking questions that work for 99% of us 99% of the time, is the secret to a great interview. 🤠
LOL
What can we say - he's a conversationalist, and a great one at that!
Maria, so great to catch up with you! ANYTIME!!!
I greatly enjoy Hugh and Claudia’s work, and often share the Three Blind M & E with my video-media students. Rich and poetic, and approachable.
This guy is absolutely amazing. He is my north. I wish one day I can be a third of the artist, mentor he is. Thank you Hugh
Hugh is the Lou Reed of photography. He always produces great results.
It’s always a pleasure to hear Hugh’s thoughts on his fabulous photography. Thanks B&H! And Hugh, I’m very excited about the new books!
Hey, Jeff!
You had me at "Hugh Brownstone"
Just bought my first non-M lens for my SL2 with the recently received voucher from Leica, and it is the APO 35 mm Summicron.
Another great video. Was on that street in September walking back from the High Line.

Nice to see Jerusalem is on Hugh's must visit list , but I recommend he and his wife visit Tel-Aviv as well, for a " bit" of contrast ( pun intended )
😊🖖🏻
@@3BMEP I could even meet you guys , and we could " shoot a few frames " together , just saying
when you ever go to Zurich, contact me! - another great town for street photography is Prague, and of course, London.
Fun interview with Hugh! Hugh, if you need recommendations for places to visit and shoot in Switzerland, let me know. Ciao, Philippe

Hugh and Claudia are good people.
Is Hugh still using the CL he seemed to love?

Don’t come to London….the UK has gone down the toilet….
NYC is so played out. You see one street picture you’ve seen them all.
