In the Missouri ozarks we've experienced 45 days of triple digit temperatures. In the summer we usually get hot but not like this summer. As a garden designer and environmentalist, I'm concerned about our planet. All I can do is design waterwise gardens and plan for a different world. I so appreciate your spirit and your effort to use less resources.
Thanks for the video and tips. My eyes just couldn't help but to stray to the totem cactus while listening to your tips. That cactus is just so beautiful and regal. She's such a joy just to watch. :)
congratulations to the contest winner, Stephanie, and how lucky is she to get a personal tour!! we would love to see your garden, Stephanie; i hope some day you feel comfortable letting us visit a la Laura 🥰 that crest! isn't it amazing that you can cut it up it like that and get 3 for the price of 1? and i'm also amazed at how heavy some cacti are! but they are full of water, so to speak, i guess, lol... that beach was a fabulous idea! i know your succulent babies must get so excited to come and play in the sand... isn't it wonderful how an unexpected event (omg, we have to move!) turns into something so wonderful??? enjoy your weekend, stay cool and hydrated! this heat is just insane... 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
I'm taking your warning to heart Laura...its been triple digits here in the Inland Empire and will continue for another week. I can hear your voice"Dont water your succulents!" You are such a great teacher! And to Stephanie, CONGRATS! PLEASE LET US SEE YOUR GARDEN!
I appreciate your videos as they are always showing me different ways to look at my plants. I have a large Eve's Needle Crest that is starting to look a little rangy. Now I have the confidence to take the pieces that are still appealing and repot it. I know this will make me much happier. I'm laughing that it just never occurred to me to do that!
Your Eve's needle crest looks absolutely gorgeous, and fantastic you have pruned and and got cuttings, and looks so amazing planted in the wonderful bowl and your Lophocereus schotti on the left is MASSIVE a real stunner, thanks so much for sharing Laura and sending you lots of PLANT POWER from Ireland for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Congratulations Stephanie for winning the Vallecitos Water District's Water Wise contest following Laura Eubanks design for serenity ideas to transform the garden.
Just love that Needle Crest. I am going to try and get me one for my garden. Love your garden Laura and cannot wait for the Wednesday Walkabouts😊😊👌👌 You create magic where ever you go.
Thank you sooooo much for the tip on watering (or should I say not watering) during hot weather. We are in triple digits and I was planning on giving my succulents a good watering. You may have saved them. Five more days before we get relief.
Thank you, thank you Laura and Greg. I was wondering when I will be able to water. Sacramento is triple digits through next Friday. Some days as high as 112°😓🌡😭. I see an 88° for Sunday 9/11. I will wait to see if it stays lower temps after that before giving anything a SIP of water.
Excellent tips today. The Eve’s Needle crest used for parts is brilliant. You can appreciate the form much better. Love how succulents can be multiplied in many ways. Stay cool!!!
I live in Solano County the North Bay Area come Monday we’ll hit triple digits! My porch gets southern exposure and is covered in giant pink jasmine bushes, I move my potted succulents underneath them during heat waves! Thank you for reminding us not to water and for creating space to enjoy succulents together, absolutely love watching you everyday! It’s a trip you’re potting up an eves needle, my neighbor just gifted me and old potted specimen today I cleaned it up and repotted her, not crested or in a Susan pot but pretty cool!
I have learned so very much from your amazing tutorials in all the videos I have watched over the past month since finding you. The most important advice that I have gathered is to NOT worry about watering the plants when I first plug them into their new space. No roots don't need water! How simple is that?? Thank you for all of your knowledge!
Love the tips for watering in the heat!!! Here in zone 9b, North Central florida, I am going to try using a rolling shelving unit, that has a clear covering to protect my succulents from the frequent rains of the summer. Will be able to enjoy the sun without rotting from the water. The thing I worry about is ventilation. Maybe need a fan. Thanks from Jaynne in Ocala, FL
So many plants & trees are turning brown from the high UV, drought & restrictive landscape watering of only 3 days a week in the early morning hours and late evening hours up here in the "Northstate". The neighborhoods that once looked so inviting to live in have taken on the ugliness of climate change. We are thinking of moving to the desert, where people are used to not having green lawns and lush landscaping around their homes. At least we won't have to worry about our neighbors stealing the water from our faucets to make their own yards look lush without having to pay their fair share of water bills! Loved your watering tips.
Gorgeous potting! Looks terrific! I noticed how your saw bounced off that cactus! It must be a tough guy! We will watch for an update to his story once he is replanted.
It's been 102 for several days in West Covina, I cant put plants out in the hot sun. They need be under on my porch. I could only dream of 77 degrees any time soon. Sept is our areas hottest time.
Thanks for the reminder that I needed to hear, Laura! Don’t overwater. I still think of more water as being more care/love and some of my plants can’t handle it. 😳 I use Dollar Tree or 99 cent store rolls of weed fabric as temporary shade cloth. I unroll, open it up and clip it to whatever is handy. 🥰
concerned about cactus needles getting into sand where kiddos play… 😕 and omg that poor rotted thing; it’s tough, will hopefully pull through ok. 🥺 new potting looks great 👍
Wow! I was really wrong in that comment. I have a large pot of Eve's Needle; several plants together, actually. And none have spines that I've ever seen. However, I was in a nursery the other day, picked up a small pot of Eve's Needle and got my hand full of tiny (really tiny!) spines. Nasty little buggers; hardly seen seen but painful. My apologies for seeming to be a know-it-all.
I think I mistook your earlier advice to not water summer hibernating plants to never haha. It's cool to see stuff I've let turn into a prune spring back to life within a couple weeks. The only annoying plant is the sunset jade which is either brown and pouting or green, the dang thing is never yellow.
It has rained here in Northeast Florida everyday for the last 2 weeks. I have well draining soil in all of my succulents and I monitor them everyday and if I get concerned with any I have a table with an umbrella that I move them to to dry out
I'm in St. Augustine, and have been moving my potted succulent collection in and out, due to all of the rain we've been having. I have about 40 pots, so it's getting kind of tedious. Only have two agave in the ground, and I ignore them and they do just fine. Stay dry; more rain is on the way!
Hi Laura. Love your channel. I think you should paint that new three tiered black plant stand maybe a gray so it wouldn’t stand out so much. Just a thought. Your yard looks beautiful.
Great advice, Laura! What about disinfecting your clippers after cutting into the rot? Do you worry about spreading it to other plants? I just pour 70% alcohol on my blades. Xox, Bonnie
🪚 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 *deep breath* Okay. I’m okay. The potted crest looks great, BTW. 👍🏼 🤩 I can attest to your advice about resisting the urge to water in high temps. I’ve lost cacti and succulents to rot after watering when I should have shaded. Regarding regular watering schedules, I read that the best time to water is in the early evening. Thanks for taking us along - you are amazing at what you do and I learn new things with every new video of yours. Happy Labor Day weekend!!
Question…..~3:40 on video, why did you cut horizontal and not vertical all the way down through the root system? As ga novice, this doesn’t make sense to me.I love watching your videos and learning! 🌵
I'll bet that cactus will continue to rot. Better to have continued trimming the stem upward until all the tissue is healthy. If that ends up to consume the whole stem, just chuck the plant out without further adoo. That Eve's Needle does look spiffy in the Susan Auch pot!
Pro tip- start the sawzall before you touch the plant with it. You will have a much easier time cutting. Starting it while touching the thing you are cutting will rip up the surface or throw the item around. I hope this helps!
Laura I noticed you had the euphorbia trigona rubra in the full sun behind you today what sort of temps will it take in full sun. In south Australia we have very hot possibly 4 or 5 days in a row over 40 deg.
Yep... that's what happened to my succulent.I had named him, Yurgen the Brutal. He was handsome. One morning I found it all flopped over, squishy... boohoo-hoo. Now I know what I did wrong. Criminal 😞
Belated condolences for Thing the Cat. I lost Joey the Cat last year of old age. Thank you for the update - I’m still new to the channel, so didn’t remember a cat.

@@nicolewoods8197 thank you, the heat bubble finally burst about 2 weeks ago. I have much gratitude. In the 80s and lower 90s.
Tony could you name 5 types of succulents that would survive those temps, south Australia isn't quite that hot, but it would help.
Go stephanie! cant wait till we see your garden

Great idea!!! I’ll have to look for that.
That is genius. I’ve never seen any shade cloth at our local Dollar Tree. I will have to check it out again!
I love your videos. Beautiful new cactus crest! One thing bothers me though. Don't you need to sterilize the clippers after trimming off rot?
Apparently I over water my succulents (in Northern CA East Bay) and I water them when it's too hot. Thanks for these tips!
concerned about cactus needles getting into sand where kiddos play… 😕 and omg that poor rotted thing; it’s tough, will hopefully pull through ok. 🥺 new potting looks great 👍
Eve's Needle cactus has soft little leaves, not spines or needles.

I have a large crested Eve’s Needle, now I know what to do with it!
Here in Florida it rains every afternoon in Summer. Succulents suffer for sure.
Here in Redding we've experienced almost non stop triple digits since the 4th of July l water only at night and mostly to rinse them off.
I am just below you in Red Bluff….hot hot hot for months.
@@robynmorris7945 Even in the shade some of my succulents are suffering.
Boy I hear you. I am also surrounded by concrete, asphalt or rock…poor plants. I keep telling them that fall is coming.
It was 109° today.
Same here.

Did anyone else notice at 4.22 minutes in has you were cutting the crest that tiny worm? I kept waiting for Luara to notice it
yep. Big enough for us to see it, about 1/4".

How to transform a unique, collector piece to a common planting. I never carred about Susan’s pots so for me this isn’t a win. But to each their own!

What do you do when it’s so hot from morning to all the way to 4pm, then it rains with the thunderstorms. That’s quite a normal here in Sydney.
Yikes.
Umbrellas would be needed to keep water off of tender plants.
@@LauraEubanks lol! mine is the whole frontyard and backyard. Just hope for the best in that situation.
I would like to get the exact Dewalt sawzall. Please provide more info; size, etc. Thanks for all the helpful information you give and beautiful work😁

Heck we’ve had triple digit heat indexes up here in Michigan this summer which is unheard of. It’s definitely been a challenging summer.
Can the towels you use for replanting and cutting be washed with regular laundry? Will the plant needles wash way?
So perfect 🤩
