What separates Van from the rest of the artist's in the building is his writing. I find him to be very much an author; his writing almost equally supreme to his obvious legendary musicianship. This one particular live 1979 example, shines the light on his mastery of handling both simultaneously. Not many artist's, if any at all these days, will ever reach this marvelous peak of artistic excellence.

Why? Knew he sang Brown Eyed. Girl. Heard Moondance many times, but did not know he sang it. I did not think I 'd like many of his songs. In my 60s, my spirit feels I am in my 20s when I listen to VM older hits.

Ah. Great song. Was in housing estate here today where guy who promoted V n Paul Brady etc grew up from this town. Paul Charles. Bit of a dick actually. Now a ‘crime writer’. Only interesting thing he said was that he used the estate’s phone box as his personal phone for work way back in 50s or 60s. I remember the phone box. I had friends there as a kid and in those days kids roamed free unlike today. I’d leave home at 5 plus and walk all over the town and see kids everywhere I went. Kids were safer then in the ‘Troubles’ than they are allowed to be now. No freedom now. I knew every inch of the town and used to draw maps of all the streets. When we were only primary school age kids and my mum was on a nightshift as a nurse in the local hospital, we had the best of fun with my dad. She was strict but he was one of us. Wielded no authority. We spent hours laughing our heads off singing songs containing the names of the people who lived in the town then to the tune of Motorbiking. Jesus. Told V that a few days ago when we were getting drunk here. Never told anyone outside the immediate family before. He’d take us to the chippie and allow us to choose one song each on the jukebox. We thought my mum was an old stick in the mud because she didn’t take us to the chippie. At the time of course I didn’t work out he couldn’t cook. X
Ok, I think having one female background singer is a great idea...why didn't he add one more vocal with his acoustic player or whatever...obviously that's the way he wanted it...And I like it.
There is only one lady singing background, and she is awesome...Why he didn't add one more female backup is beyond me however this lady whoever she is is just outstanding.
