    In regards to getting gifted a spaceship within the first 5 minutes of the game they did the same thing with power armour in Fallout 4 where you can acquire a set at like level 1. I remember playing Fallout 3 and coming across random encounters with the Brotherhood of Steel and literally following them around looking at their power armour thinking how much I can't wait to get my hands on a suit. It added so much value to the game because it was a massive motivation to level up and progress and that experience has been stripped away in the past few Bethesda titles which is a real shame.

    There is absolutely NO conflict in the universe, no moral quandary, no depth of characters or factions.
    Elder Scrolls and Fallout both had factions that were borderline irredeemable, and you could join them- you know, because they're RPGs and that used to mean something.
    Now, your choices are:
    >Good boring faction
    >Good cowboy faction
    >Good cult faction
    >Good pirate faction
    The entire universe feels like it was written by a first-time DM that was afraid to offend any of their players.
    I'm surprised this game doesn't have you sign a consent-form beforehand, waiving any liability for the player getting offended.
    It's so weak, condescending, and lazy.

    • @SamuelCatsy
      @SamuelCatsy Месяц назад +9

      They might as well have gone full Roddenberry-ian and made humanity completely united and the crux of the game would be scientific exploration with more missions like the Entangled mission. But nope, Bethesda wanted their Space Empire and Space Stormcloaks and Space Thieves Guild (Ryujin) and Space... other Thieves Guild (Crimson Fleet).

    • @Kevin-zv6ds
      @Kevin-zv6ds Месяц назад +6

      Ryujin is clearly evil and the ending has you manipulating the execs to fulfill your wishes. The heat leach twist was pretty neat. The pirate faction is clearly not "good" and are a constant annoyance in game if you don't join either sysdef or the fleet.
      The cowboy faction is "good" but I would not say that the freestar collective is good at all. As a polity, it's literally a hyper-capitalist libertarian oligarchy. On the otherhand, the UC seem like a militarist democracy(?) (Like you said the UC is boring, so I obviously didn't gravitate toward them). The UC also continue to keep a war criminal alive against space law just for strategic reasons. The UC questline is a really good questline with a completely dubious choice to make at the climax. The wider UC faction is boring bc it just feels generic.
      The problem with the game is there isn't a connection between the factions. Widely, what one faction does isn't relevant to another and quests don't usually (if ever) intersect in some fashion aside Ig with the Sysdef/Fleet. I wish Bethesda would take whole chapters from New Vegas' book on world building via quests.

    • @imperialspacemarine1539
      @imperialspacemarine1539 Месяц назад +5

      @@Kevin-zv6ds you put it perfectly when you said "constant annoyance". that is not evil that is annoying. and compared to the deeds of factions in previous bethesda titles even the most evilish faction of starfield looks like goddie two shoes. and just to point out "the ending has you manipulating the execs to fulfill your wishes" that is a sidequest in riverwood. this "ending" is basically any skyrim sidequest with dialog that gives you the "(lie)" option.
      if thats as deep as it goes than bethesda really downgraded their faction games. manipulation and cruel tactics where the norm for any faction quest in every bethesda title that isnt the skyrim werewolf faction and even they have dirty laundry.

  • @SilverMelee

    I think you summed up why I can't stand Starfield's universe so well. It's not just that the art direction is all-around painfully sterile and bland, nor is it the fact that humans are seemingly the only intelligent life in the entire galaxy, but it's also the fact that nothing of real note is actually happening in the Settled Systems and there aren't any stakes or galaxy redefining events going on. If I think back to previous Bethesda games, I remember there were overarching plots that ultimately impacted everyone who lived in that world:
    - Oblivion opens with the Emperor and his heirs getting murdered by a group of cult, who are also trying to usurp the world by staging a pseudo-demonic invasion.
    - Skyrim was in the midst of a civil war that fractured the country and dragons returning after a long slumber.
    - Fallout 4 had the Institute and other hostile entities terrorizing a ruined Commonwealth, stunting all efforts for them to rebuild anew in any meaningful way.
    - Fallout 3 gave you a motive to go out into a dangerous world (find your Dad), which eventually snowballs into determining the fate of much of the DC wastes.
    Nobody ever brings up any sort of galaxy-redefining antics regarding Starfield in these reviews I've been watching, and you've basically stated why; because there are none. The overarching plot seems to revolve largely around you, the Starborn, and maybe that nerdy club that most of the galaxy is indifferent to. I guess Shattered Space tried to remedy that by allowing to decide how things end for the snake-worshippers, but even then it seems like the game railroads you into only a few very specific choices that amount to very little in the long run. Like... what happened here? What happened to this company? How did things get this bad at Bethesda so quickly?

    Bethesda tagline at this point should be disappointment. No matter what they introduce it will always end up being in the most uninspired boring manner. Whatever boomer writers they're keeping at Bethesda who thinks the height of storytelling and character depth is the dad jokes Sam constantly makes needs to be fired. Because said people should not be writing stories like this. These incompetent world builders had the vastness of space to work with how do you come up with absolutely nothing engaging in the universe? We should have had all sorts of alien cults, cthulu shit. Instead we got a indifferent space god who just sends random people through basically ground hog day for eternity for no ultimate reason. They dont even give reason for the powers, guarantee a dev just added it to be like skyrim shouts and that was it.

    Good review of a game I really do like, and the DLC criticisms are largely good even if I'm enjoying the DLC rn
    Wish you went harder on the ship part point tho, literally recolored normal ships. Bethesda could even be fucked to make actual reskins.
    I will say tho, that there's gameplay ideas in the DLC that if they were fully worked on it would've been fun. I was so disappointed by the dam bossfights only bc you can easily cheese them by leaving the room. The end where you're running out and being attacked over and over was neat, disorienting, and a good use of backtracking. However, for the most part it feels like their games have continued to be "streamlined" or I would just straight say made for the dumbest person.
    Bethesday needs to fully realize their gameplay ideas and stop thinking their players are at the left side of the bell curve.
    One problem with the video is that the difficulty options do allow for a level 2/3 character to clear the content alone. I've seen the level criticsm before, but I ran the DLC blind with player/enemy damage set to easy (and most of the other features set to the hardest) until about level 15-20. I think that enhanced my enjoyment of the DLC and made the fights pretty fun.
