So the abandoned hotel was Luperon’s main resort. It was active from the 80’s until the early 2000’s. My dad worked in the construction and used to take me and my brothers there for vacation in the early 2000’s. It actually was a beautiful property with a great beach but unfortunately with the rise of Punta Cana tourists stopped visiting and little by little the hotel became outdated and I guess they just couldn’t keep up and eventually was shutdown and abandoned. It brings me a lot of nostalgia looking at this video and the conditions of the property because I have some fantastic childhood memories of being in that resort with my dad and brothers. It really used to be beautiful 😢
The property belonged to Banco del Comercio, en in the early 1990's they went bankrupt . The bank was purchased by Banco Intercontinental, but in that deal some properties where not 100% owned by the bank. Parters and others had legal issues and the rest is history. The world , not just DR has those problems. The property is in a limbo state.
Hey there. Fellow Canadian here. Luperon was a resort destination starting back in the 80’s. I was a travel agent at that time and I remember the tour operators promoting it as the new best thing in the D.R. My parents even went there and stayed at one of the resorts. I believe it was called Luperon Beach Resort. Cheers 😎
Wow! It’s bittersweet to watch Luperon! You can tell that it was sooooooo gorgeous! Investors need to go back and revive this gem! Its beauty is so authentic; it’s waiting to boom once again!

Luperon is definitely a beautiful and fascinating place to visit! It’s always interesting to learn the history of how any particular place has essentially become a ‘ghost town’ and the memories that are recalled by those with firsthand experiences. Thank you to those who have shared your story of Luperon. 😊

I absolutely love Luperon! With its historical sites, hidden, almost virgin beaches, marina, numerous cheese factories, and a charming rural countryside/beach town vibe. It's not trendy, but that's part of its appeal for me. I'm so glad you chose to visit this wonderful yet underrated place. Thank you for your honest reviews and all the work you do! Like you, I have many places in my own country that I haven't explored yet, some of which are in the mountains. Valle Nuevo is my favorite place for camping. To help with that, I bought a big SUV that I’m slowly customizing for overlanding. Keep up the great work! God bless you both! 🙏🏽
What an amazing video, guys. Many of us Dominicans haven't even heard about this place. It's beautiful, and it's also near La Isabela, which has a very important history not only for the DR but for the whole continent!!!
All main roads are named after Duarte and when a street with that name is on towns, usually, is because that street connects to the main road or highway that will take you out of town. It’s like the Main Street in all of the DR for all of the towns.

Hello Anna & Trevor, super cool discovery, I was waiting for your video about this area, just still wondering if we'll go explore also on our next trip in May ... also heard that Christopher Colombus arrived or stayed a while at La Isabela, it's a little mit more to the north west, there's the Museo Historico y Arqueologico La Isabela. Thanks again for this interesting video, you make my sundays more exciting, can't wait to be there in several weeks 😎🌴☀⛱
I worked at the Luperon Beach Resort as a tour rep in the late 1989-1990. It was a beautiful resort on a gorgeous beach. I visited the area where the hotel was two years ago and was so sad to see what was once a wonderful property gone to ruins.
First off thanx guys for this video!!! I am a DR paradise cove connoisseur and I hadn’t seen this spot!!! But as far as history goes, Columbus got to Hispaniola and settled it before he did any other place. That was in 1492, first Fort La Navidad (now present day Cap Haitien, Haiti) then La Isabela; 1493, where they formed a village and then from there went on to explore the rest of the Island. Santo Domingo is the oldest European settlement in the western hemisphere. Dominican Republic is home to the oldest University in the Americas, Oldest Cathedral, and to many other FIRSTS in America. And his brother and son lived in the DR as well. Btw, I gotta take you guys to Montecristi.
Mmmmmm presidente I miss Dr. so much Punta cana 4 times We got married there. From ottawa in the snow -25 today 😢 Enjoy guys and thx for bringing us along the journey
Colombus on his first trip, landed in a place near Cabo Haitiano, Haiti, where they built from the wreckage of his main ship, Santa Maria, the Fuerte La Navidad because all happen in Christmas Day. Colombus when back to Spain and left 30 men in the fort, when he came back on his second trip, all his men were killed and the fort was destroyed, needed to move to a place near where you are called La Isabel, that was the first city ever established in the Americas.
Just FYI...regarding your flickering lights in the kitchen; that is an indication that there is a loose wire somewhere in the circuit or a bad switch. I had the same problem in my home here in Halifax and had to replace an old bad switch. After that the flickering stopped. It's annoying when lights flicker but that's probably a good thing (warning signal) as loose wires or warn out switches can be a fire hazard.

4:40 Christopher Columbus landed on the island in 1492, not 1494. And yes, La Isabela was the very first settlement he established on the north coast, but much of the settlement was later destroyed by a hurricane and what remains today are just ruins. By the way, had no idea Luperón was that beautiful! Wow.

As I commented in the previous video, I believe, as a professional in the tourism industry, that Puerto Plata's biggest problem was poor sales management. They began to sell the ideal place for prostitution, including children, and a lot of cheap and uneducated tourism began to arrive at the place and obviously they neglected what really makes us great and different, which is our culture and the unmatched beauty of our island. And that is where the hotels began to decline and even the premises began to be abandoned. I have faith that the efforts the government is making will revitalize the zone. kisses, guys.

Remember Puerto Plata was the home of many German Jew that escaped Hitler and there was a big big community there and Sosua which is part of Puerto Plata many of them stayed until today it's not uncommon to see a "Black" Dominican with a German last name in Puerto Plata..
he arrived to dominican rep 1492 not 1494, but anyway beautiful adventures
Like not where around the world,
that nation isn't big but they have real Amazing history, and if believe oh not the dominican are parts of 10 tribes lost of israel their depency come after the Jewish deportation from Spain in 1492 they may be don't know that,.!

Sorry to disappoint, Columbus first landed in Turks and Caicos.
Wherever he landed it doesn’t matter to us. Not sure why you think we’d be disappointed- Trevor
@ of course it doesn’t matter to any of us. It was meant as humour. I am Canadian just like you and I love any beach with or without Columbus.
Columbus arrive on December 5th 1492

My advice for you guys is to stay away from Luperón any town around there just because you will have a lot of problems with water, which is only run every other day for only 2 hours, plus the roads are not in the best conditions so that is the main downside of living there ❤
