  • This film is part of the Mitchell and Kenyon collection courtesy of the British Film institute. Here we can see an amazing visual record of everyday life in Britain at the beginning of the twentieth century. This clip is called Parkgate Iron and Steel Company, Rotherham in 1901. This clip has been colorized and upscaled to bring it into the modern world.
This is England in the the year 1901. What you’re about to witness is a glimpse into the past of a world that no longer exists. The time of English factories and King Edward. A time of steam engines and lax labor laws. Let’s dive into the world of 1900’s england.
Pendulbury Colliery" is one of the films produced by Mitchell and Kenyon, and it provides a fascinating glimpse into the working conditions and life at a colliery coal mine in Pendlebury, which is located in the Greater Manchester area of North England.
The film captures the activities and scenes surrounding the coal mining industry. It includes footage of the colliery buildings, the pithead, and possibly the miners themselves going to and from work.
The original film is a silent black and white production, as synchronized sound in films didn't exist at that time. The footage is likely to be relatively short, as early films were often limited by the available technology and storage capacity.
Mitchell and Kenyon were known for filming and screening their films locally, often in fairgrounds or public spaces, creating a form of early cinema exhibition. Their films were intended to capture the everyday life of working-class people and were often showcased to the communities involved, creating a sense of local pride and entertainment.
These early films, including "Pendulbury Colliery," are valuable historical records that offer a rare visual insight into the past, providing a glimpse of the working conditions, social dynamics, and industrial landscapes of the time. They are considered invaluable resources for studying and understanding the history and culture of the early 20th century.
Upscaling to 4k with Ai technology is the core of colorization, and restoration of old videos into the modern age.

It’s definitely a black man in the flat cap. There is a Mitchell & Kenyan film, 1901, Atlas Works, Sheffield that shows a black man and a little black girl in the crowd of children (she’s bottom right)

Sir, You ruined the thumbnail with that big ass red circle

According to statistics sir, that’s not true. That stupid red circle is garnering more clicks per impressions than all my other videos that don’t have red circles. I have so many other non red circle thumbnails, but not nearly enough people are clicking on them.
