That stencil was made to be used with soldering paste. You see the holes around, they're there to help it from bending. You must apply heat circularly, slowly.
What is your soldier iron temp set as in Celsius when using unleaded solder? And when you desolder is the hot air gun always set to 480 degrees Celsius?
I don't use unleaded solder bud, I use Kester 63/37 leaded. My iron is always at 400⁰C and my hot air depends on the task. For most jobs I'm at 440⁰C 40% airflow
I saw a tech channel test that not long after launch, and it overheated. Because of the fixed power target and varying clocks, the chips are constantly working near their maximum load, accelerating in frequency during low wattage operations to keep the power draw constantly high. And it’s power consumption that directly correlates to heat, so it’s likely putting out more constantly higher wattage than something with fixed clocks and varying power consumption/heat would be, and liquid metal is much less of a bottle-neck and much faster and more responsive at delivering that heat into the heatsinks than thermal grease. If anything Sony over engineered the heatsink on the launch spec, which came with a massive slab of copper. It was almost halved before the die-shrink Slim range. So it really is all about the APU to heatsink interface, and it needing to be as responsive as possible. The PS5 architecture was designed from early on to be a variable-clock fixed-power target APU using AMD SmartShift to save on die space/be more efficient. The results years later speak for themselves. You don’t suddenly switch cooling solutions and fundamental APU architecture and working philosophy at the last minute in reaction to a rival’s announcement days earlier. Phil Spencer said he cheered at the PS5 reveal when he realised he’d managed to deliver something with seemingly more GPU, so it’s not like they know years in advance what the other will end up settling on, and it would take a long time to suddenly implement and test a deterministic SmartShift implementation with SDK and profiling tools to match, and the only reason to implement SmartShift into the APU is if you’re targeting crazy peak clock speeds and a high average TDP.
It should be fine in vertical mode as it would shut or if getting too hot plus the actual die is smaller than the heat spreader. Lack of proper amount of Liquid Metal and sealing in some PS5’s.
I'm from Belgium, I don't know if you're from the European continent? Sincerely, I like your videos so much that I am convinced to send you several PlayStations to be repaired per month, if you are interested could we discuss to see how we could organize ourselves please? Best regards ❤
Hi Phil, I like your channel. I was wondering if you know if the ps5 slim is more reliable. I would recommend your channel. Because you really are excellent at fixing modern consoles. But I feel like I cant, because sometimes you curse. And sometimes you say God with a curse word. And that is considered blasphemeous against God. A lot of people use God and Jesus like curse words without even thinking about it. Because the hollywood movies have brainwashed them to think its normal. I was also wondering, if you have seen the video titled: Is the Simpsons predicting the Rapture? Kap reacts.
Come for the Repair Video, Stay for the Comedy Insults! Thank You. 😀
Great job, keep up the good work 🎉

I'm sure he knows that but either didnt have solder paste on hand or doesn't want to use it
Thanks for these PS5 videos, you have given me the confidence to try and start fixing them, starting to progress from Switch repairs.
Please keep streaming and uploading on RUclips... You'll never lose me as a sub. Your videos are freaking awesome!!
awsome work as always, cheers
Nice to see u again hope your well and keep up the good work😊

could you use regular thermal paste to prevent the leaking off the chip?

Hi, I saw your video from Disk edition to digital edition ps5. Can you tell me where I can get the digital BIOS for the chip?
So should you have your PS5 in the horizontal position, never vertical?
Yes
If you ever opened up your PS5 to the point you've split the motherboard and heatsink from each other, then yes. It's highly recommended.
I have seen surge protectors with RJ45 ports on them. I have never done it. Assumed it wasn't necessary.
Do you know what a good brand of ethernet serge protection would be or if it's even needed?
It should be fine in vertical mode as it would shut or if getting too hot plus the actual die is smaller than the heat spreader. Lack of proper amount of Liquid Metal and sealing in some PS5’s.
😮😮 thats it im going to put mine in the horizontal position 😮😮
I've got a Nintendo 3ds with no power and possible liquid damage. How much would you charge to fix it, Phil?
3:00 Keeping the console vertical can and will f-up your machine I'm a victim seen it first hand .
I have one of them screwdriver they are really good
Hmm I wonder if the 1p cap has struck again or do we have a new fault
LOL it's definitely not a new fault that's for sure

You fix tons but what is best xbox x or ps5 just for reliability in you're opinion
The more videos I watch the more astounded I am with Sony's poor design and choice of cheap components on the PS5 board
The short looked like an Easter egg!! Happy Easter!!
Good job bro, what is the name of this Hdmi tester
Chipmunk HDMI Tester A4614
I have a PS5, it's broken, even you can't do it.
You sure do get a lot of broken ps5s pal. I had nothing but trouble with the ps4 as well. Sony not as well made as they used to be?
Yeah they're really not good in terms of reliability. Probably worse than the PS4 if I'm honest
It's definitely the apple logo the reason its given up ! Also is fifa on it ? 😂
Agreed.
As soon as the Apple logo was applied it self-immolated 😅
Apple logo? oh to the bin for sure...
Don't take a part a ps5 if you don't know wat you are doing take it to a pro
Let us know if you ever find a Play Station with a Microsoft logo sticker on it.
It’s all click bait!!! PS5s don’t even exist. 😂
