Honestly I'd love it if you could get your hands on any of the older Lenovo tiny PCs and cover how they handle daily use and light gaming. I grabbed a Lenovo ThinkCentre M7159q off Mercari for $50 usd and use it as my daily driver. I liked the small form factor so much I bought a Lenovo m83 for $25 and hooked it up to my living room tv as a media center/ retro game console. Both are running windows 10 and the M7159q is really snappy and responsive. It made me feel dumb for spending $600+ on off the shelf dell and hp PCs for years when all I do is light internet browsing and retro gaming and these little Lenovos work so dang well.

Those AIO’s are quite reliable,my school’s computer laboratory has them with 4th gen i5’s (I think they are either U or M?) and they are still running since 2014 considering they are being used by every student in the school (elementary graders, middle schoolers and high schoolers)

    • @ukrainiansturgeon8561

I subbed, and I'll tell you why:
Our older pc's (tower/AIO/ lappy/etc) are soooo under-rated! We dont *need* the latest and greatest. And let's face it, it's just not feasible in these crazy days of outrageous market prices (both new and old). Kudos go to nvidia for recently (oct21 I think) now again supporting older gpus. Now we just need to convince MS of this, since we're being "punished" for having older systems. Yeah if we *do* install win11 then supposedly we'll not be allowed to get updates. I understand their reasoning (security and perhaps to a smaller extent, user experience) but allowance should be made for the current market. Okay, win10 is still supported for a few more years and I hope the market improves. Until then, there are a lot of us powering on with our older i5's and i7's with either onboard or lower end gpu's. I'm also all for recycling/repurposing older systems. As you say, sometimes they only require a little TLC to get them performing again. Loved the video! Can't wait to binge watch and get to know you a little better!

I managed to score a Mid-2011 27" iMac with a 512MB HD6770M graphics card, 12GB 1333MHz DDR3 and a quad-core Intel Core i5-2500S at 2.7GHz. Nothing wrong with it at all. The camera doesn't work but just might have been unplugged. The only issue with it was that the computer used to boot up with lots of errors and took 20+ minutes to boot up. All it needed was a fresh install of macOS High Sierra and that was it. It runs like a dream and I've upgraded it to 16GB of RAM (also free, salvaged from an old MacBook Pro that wasn't working). I use it for video editing, general computing and running AutoCAD :)
And yes, the graphics card is actually pretty decent. It can run Bus Driver (an old SCS game, I know) at fully maxed out settings with 8X Anti-aliasing at 1440p. Video editing is pretty smooth but it could do with an SSD as the frame rate stutters sometimes just due to the slow hard drive.

After watching this again, I can conclude that yes, I still love this computer (as well as computers like it) and would happily use something like this as my main PC - so long as it had a 1TB or 2TB hard drive in it instead of the small 240GB SSD. Believe me, I can't have a main PC with such a small amount of storage.
edit: seems like you can only put 1 drive in, so it would be 1TB/2TB HDD, or 500GB+ SSD. See my latest reply for what I'd do in 2023.

@@peterpan408 Fast forward to 2023 and with Kingston A400 960GB SSDs available for under £40, there's literally no reason to put in anything less than 1TB (even in SSD form factor) into an AIO PC like this. More modern AIOs may even have dual HDD/SSD bays, or a mSATA (or M.2/NVME) and a 2.5in SATA bay combo.

After 2 mins of Googling, this system has a socketed CPU, which you know about as you re-pasted it. I'd think dropping an i7 4770T which would add hyperthreading onto the system. You'd probably bottleneck the GPU by that point but it'd make all those already good Valve titles run even better

We have an Acer Aspire Z5771 AIO that has a socketed i5 2400s, 6gb of RAM and a 240gb SSD that replaced its dying 1tb HDD. It still works fine for web browsing and document editing despite being 10 years old at this point. It even has a PCI 16x slot that can take GPUs. Some models even came with a TV tuner

Since I've bought aio for my mům in 2020, I've noticed, that this segment looks really nice and you can found Cool Stuff. Also - it isn't as complicated as laptop, it is packed fairly well, has most popular outputs, you can always upgrade it (well, most of the time xD). This is really Cool part of Stuff, shame, that is so barely used.

Really good review and yes I certainly rate these AIO PCs well.
The screens on AIOs look pretty decent as well - and remember, with an AIO you don't need to buy another screen. A decent 1080p monitor can easily set you back £75 or more.
Only thing I would be concerned about (especially on models newer than the one reviewed) would be upgrading and servicing the machine, though it should still be doable. Unlike the one reviewed here, many HP systems still have single channel memory, which is not ideal at all.

Yes! I just got a 2011 Sony VPCL2 for £0. It's a 1080p 120Htz 3D touchscreen with a core i7 2600M. It's an amazing pinball machine because I can rotate it 90 degrees and use the touchscreen. Needed a new SSD, more ram, a new wifi card, a clean and a re-paste and it's great.
Fantastic way to play old 90s and 2000s games.
Only negative is the truely terrible graphics card: a Geforce GT540M....
It's got HDMI in and out, so in the daytime it's my second monitor for work, and for games it runs them itself, it streams from the proper PC and with 3D HDMI in I can hook up the PS3 and play in 3D!

I bought a 2nd gen sandybridge Pentium powered one at a local auction for the grand total of £2, it was sold as a monitor but i realised pretty early thats it was an AIO. It worked great but was sluggish when windows 10 was installed so I installed an i7 2600S (low energy use variant) and a 500gb SSD, also doubled the ram to 8gb. It was much better then. sold it a couople of years back for £100. We used it as a `kitchen` pc, id never had an AIO pc before, so when it was time to upgrade I went for an AIO Optiplex, Im using a variant of that now - Optiplex 3280 i5 10500T, 25p gb M.2, 8gb RAM. Cost me £75.

I'm super jealous. I have the first-generation of this same PC which only has a Kepler-based Nvidia 730A and isn't nearly as capable. I've managed to game on it a bit, but not anywhere near that level.
I picked it up cheap (by my local standards ~$250CDN/£150) a bit over a year ago, added in an mSATA SSD, upgraded the WiFi, RAM, and hard drive. It's a good little machine and it's done an admirable job of replacing my dying laptop, and has gotten me through the pandemic well. But as my job responsibilities have increased, it's become increasingly inadequate bostly because of the thermal limits in the cooling system. I did re-paste my CPU and GPU with some high-quality paste when I did the upgrades, and that did help, but I'm still regularly finding myself hitting thermal limits and maxing out the CPU (mine has a i5 4670T).
So I'm upgrading to a more beastly All-in-One, the Acer Aspire Z5761. It can fit a miniITX motherboard, a proper (low profile) CPU cooler, and even has room for a low-profiule GPU. The one I'm picking up has already been upgraded with an i7 4790 so that should take care of the CPU bottleneck. Now I just need to figure out what GPU to get... if only there were a channel that specialized in low-cost PC hardware 🤔...
