There probably just ain`t anyone out there who can actually help him to become this sober all good guy that many people wish he would become. Maybe prison, solitary confinement would change him but who knows....
Bam turned his passion and friendship into millions. But that same thing that drove him almost broke him. The fact he's still alive and looks like he's found some passion again in his life. If it sticks he succeed again like no other.

He was the first skater to be signed by Nike and would tape nike signs on his shoes because Nike had a clause saying he couldnt wear any other brand. He did all of this at just 16. The simple definition of a professional in any field is you earn your major income from it. So if a skater lives from skating/sponsor cheques they are a professional, if they earn else where they are semi pro. If they earn no money from skating they remain an amateur.

At a skatepark demo back in the day Bam dropped in from the guard rail onto the gnarliest of banks. The only footage I've seen of it is my own. It was absolutely mind blowing. I'd never even imagined someone doing that. Then he found an old school board in the crowd and spazzed on it hilariously. Such a legend. So glad he currently seems to be conquering his demons.
Again, it depends on what you choose to qualify people. I use impact as a metric. If bam converted a large amount of people to skating or made skating seem "cool", thats pretty impactful for the scene. Tony impacted the scene with his games, bringing eyes to skating who never would even touch a skateboard. You could say skating might not be a mainstream stay without either of them. It could have died like roller skating has. In my personal opinion, I would say redbull could almost be on the mount rush more. They have defined Extreme sports/X games. They have continued to keep the scene alive, boosting skating achievements and events. Any non X Games skating event, at least to mainstream watchers, seems like a knock off X games. They have brought HUGE mainstream legitimacy to the sport that does go un-noticed a lot of the time.
If I could hang out with the ja crew back in the day, these two are the ones id try to exclude. Their whole brand has been built on acting dumb and not being able to hold their liquor/drugs. Nah steve-o is wrong about somethings to become a pro skater you have to either be sponsored or win an amateur contest, once you win amateur contests you may get access to compete in pro contests or you may be able to just compete in pro contests with sponsorship alone. In the old days to get sponsored you needed to either win contests or send in some video parts to the people you wanted to be sponsored by. So there's your few ways of becoming pro.... 1. Video parts 2. Sponsored 3. Winning contests and selling boards usually comes last once you've established your nail for your sponsor they'll make some boards for you if you represent that sponsor well

I'm a bit older than all you guys and was skating for a few years before you guys probably got into it as well as being a jackass but never thought about capitalizing on it like Bam and you guys did but the second I first came across Bam and the rest of you I was all about it. Bam may not of been a Tony Hawk or Rodney Mullen but he definitely was a badass back in the day and really still is for his age and health conditions. I hope he gets well and can one day win the battle against addiction but I'll never be for Johnny Knoxville anymore after the way he did Bam regardless if anyone else thinks it was right or whatever.

Nah steve-o is wrong about somethings to become a pro skater you have to either be sponsored or win an amateur contest, once you win amateur contests you may get access to compete in pro contests or you may be able to just compete in pro contests with sponsorship alone. In the old days to get sponsored you needed to either win contests or send in some video parts to the people you wanted to be sponsored by. So there's your few ways of becoming pro.... 1. Video parts 2. Sponsored 3. Winning contests and selling boards usually comes last once you've established your nail for your sponsor they'll make some boards for you if you represent that sponsor well

I have been having this debate with myself for 30 years, and alva mulen and hawk are always there. Hosoi could have replaced hawk had he not been incarcerated and could have kept skating

I'm a bit older than all you guys and was skating for a few years before you guys probably got into it as well as being a jackass but never thought about capitalizing on it like Bam and you guys did but the second I first came across Bam and the rest of you I was all about it. Bam may not of been a Tony Hawk or Rodney Mullen but he definitely was a badass back in the day and really still is for his age and health conditions. I hope he gets well and can one day win the battle against addiction but I'll never be for Johnny Knoxville anymore after the way he did Bam regardless if anyone else thinks it was right or whatever.
