It's a weird little ship, but it doesn't pretend to be anything more than than it is. I like that you added the turntable for filming. I knew it would make for better beauty shots.
I know something wrong with ME, but I like this ship. I heard somewhere this was want to be the USS Voyager, when they doing the Voyager series concept. The idea was that in the start in the Delta quadrant the Voyager and Chakotey maquis raider was to damaged. The two crew best idea was just kitbash the two ships together for one function starship. But maybe this is just a rumor :D
It is one of the best looking kitbashes in all of Star Trek, and anyone who disagrees is just salty it doesn't have the "proper curves" for one of your usual, beautifully rounded Starfleet vessels. The lore behind it could be improved, but lets be honest. That lovely shovel-saucer just works remarkably well with the brutal, straight and militaristic angular rear section. It looks like what would happen if the Federation tried to make their own Bird of War.
Yeah. The lore is a mess. Its a kitbash and that hurts it in that respect. But its a beautiful vessel for an emergency vessel created as a stop-gap, in a way that almost makes it feel like it is, well, like what you might get from the Federation trying to design their own Bird of Prey. Its frankly a cool design, to where if you didn't already know it was a kitbash, you might think that this is a proper, fully original vessel for some sci-fi setting.
I don't know. I like the idea of a hastily cobbled together ship but I don't feel like the Federation would have done that. If Voyager would've done something like this with Delta quadrant tech that would've been cool though!
This was the dominion war and federation was pumping out as many ships as possible, they probably decided to stop making intrepid class ships, and then using the half finished ships for things like this, and the other intrepid kitbash ships
you know what, i'd really like to see a trekyards on 'fixing the Yaeger'. Two ideas. one taking the idea of putting it together with spare parts and taking the shape Idea and making it work without the marquis raider....
I don't mind the general shape. Where the problem comes in for me is the kibble left behind on the model. Smooth in the "lower bridge" to a more solid connection. Smooth in the upper connection to the primary hull. Remove the wing tip guns. Smooth and round the secondary hull to a blank slate and then redetail to what makes sense. That would remove the detail clash and kibble problem with the ship.
Minor asthetic fixes could help. Along with fixing the residual aspects of merging two sections of notably different scale. Past that, some tweaks to the points where the two merge can help. I quite like the mix of the shovel-saucer and the spartan-looking raider.
It just struck me that this is like the federation's version of an El Camino! Two seemingly different types of vehicle put together in order to perform a duty that neither could do separately in the same way! Beauty in the front, utility in the back! In my mind this wool forever now by the El Camino class! LOL
I'm always kind of divided on this ship. The general shape looks decent enough I just wish they would have made the Maquis raider hull a bit smoother and removed some of the more obvious details to make it look more like a genuine secondary hull.
Because the only (official) identification is the registry number. It's maybe not very thought out, but possible. Also, the Saber "Yeager" is assumed to be destroyed during 001, because of this, if you meant her.
I've never done and model making, and I know they made these ships on the quick and cheap... But would it have been too much trouble to add some other model parts and some sculpting clay to disguise the marquis raider a bit more? Even back in the day it was very apparent what they'd done despite the ship being small on screen
3:40 Revell kits, not AMT ...for some reason Revell grabbed the Voyager, Maquis Raider and Kazon ships at launch of Voyager. While AMT/ERTL has done basically every other ship ever. I had the Voyager and Kazon kits... i didn't buy the Maquis Raider because i thought it was too big a scale compared to all my other ships.
Sometimes, a clashing look fits well for some people. For some, it of course looks weird to see a sleek thing with that blocky butt. But for some (myself included), it looks cool. Like, as he noted, a "Federation Bird of Prey."
hugest problem is the scale of the Maquis raider model they merged with an Intrepid saucer just doesn't match up. No Maquis raider was ever that big and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Well that explains a lot. I was thinking Voyager and Maquis . I guess in times of great need or peril anything that could be thrown together beats nothing at all.
I boo you! The lore is a mess. But the ship itself looks refreshingly different from other Starfleet vessels. And yet, it does so in a way that is good if you can ignore the kitbash aspect.
since the entire marquis thing was a dum and pointless plotdevice in voyager this ship resulting from that same mindset should be tossed in the trash aswell...
Maybe the Voyager is 3D printed and it prints nose to tail and it takes months. But the Maqui Raider is build from slabs of steel and can be built quicker and scaling a known relaible design is good enough for government work LOL.
Could have sworn that they did one! I must be thinking of one of their conversations with Rick sternbach or Doug Drexler. I'm sure it is now on the list for a review, thank you for the comment! :-)
Change the over all color and you can give it a Romulan feel. As in D/S-9 episode where they had a visit from a Romulain Ambassador that Garrik ended up killing after the botched faking of the data rod. Please revisit that episode and see if the ships arent that much different
It is definitely interesting, different, and a popular Underdog. For me if they had had a more consistent paint Scheme and maybe smooth. Just a few of the rough edges it would have been a little more coherent even as a thrown-together emergency type of ship. Few ships with so little screentime get so famous, so it must have something going for it!
I've always liked this design and bought this model when it came out. But then again, I'm blind, so my artistic choices/perferences can be a bit 'odd' at times haha. It does remained me of kitbashing models when I was a kid, some of which I did with my dad. That was a great way to waste a Saturday when the weather was crummy & money short. Happy Canadian Independence Day....if a couple days late, cheers.
It does have a lot more distinctive features than many Federation ships which generally are just a couple of smooth shapes. No mistaking it for anything else that's for sure! :-)
I love this ship! I dont buy the cobbled together story though. My theory is that shes a dedicated escort class based in the bird of prey. The nacelles and saucer being shared with another class is nothing new (galaxy/nebula, connie/miranda and many more.) On simularites to the bop, downswept wings with guns, oviod bow sectiond, simular shaped impulse mountings, exposed greebles on engineering hull. The scondary hull is a bit wierd but oh well.
@@Jack_Stafford Well rember starfleet ships are generally larger than there klingon counterparts. It comes with every ship being multirole in starfleet while kdf ships are dedicated warships.
personaly i don't like the "raider" concept. yes it looks like a raider, but in truth... i could see that rear hull built by klingons. Picture, the federation is trying to build ships fast, doesn't have enough on hand, see's threats with the Cardasians, as well the borg. While they have lots of ships including a slew of Intrepid under construction, they need to the shipyards for more combat orientated ships. Pulling out several intrepid saucer sections, they use those bays to begin mass production of Steam-runners. in the mean time, the intrepid saucer sections, left without hull/engineering sections being built yet, cant be scraped, that would be a waste, instead, a deal is cut with the Klingons, with klingons creating a tough, secondary hull, with traditional Klingon slung down warp pylons, heavy disruptors, and such, to mount the saucer section to. In the case of several of them, carrying a joint, federation/Klingon crew... they are not designated as starfleet or IKS but instead Joint Secuirty Force, JSF ships, allowing them to mount klingon Cloaks, and work within joint operations. (reminiscent of the joint special forces battalion of ww2 aka the Devils Brigade). In this case the federation often sent officers who were serving time in prison colonies to serve as crew to these ships, and the klingons pulled from lesser houses, who couldn't afford their own ships. These small groups would carry out convoy raiding behind enemy lines, as well as special missions. Their moto: One Last Chance For Honor.
And here I thought the Nebula class was an obvious kitbash but this makes that downright subtle! 😄
It's a weird little ship, but it doesn't pretend to be anything more than than it is.

LOL. 2:48 - your expression here Captain pretty much sums up my sentiments of the ship. :)

I like it too. I agree with Spacedock on the whole "shovel-saucer is too big for the rest of the original ship, and this kitbash fixes that" thing.
If any one asks what is a kitbash. Direct them to the Yeager.
Little known fact about the Yaeger class. In an emergency, they can eject the Intrepid saucer and continue on as a Maquis raider.
I don't know. I like the idea of a hastily cobbled together ship but I don't feel like the Federation would have done that. If Voyager would've done something like this with Delta quadrant tech that would've been cool though!

I want to know why there are 2 different class ships in active duty named Yeager. No shuttle bay?
Because the only (official) identification is the registry number. It's maybe not very thought out, but possible. Also, the Saber "Yeager" is assumed to be destroyed during 001, because of this, if you meant her.
That make sense. Thanks
I wish they would shrink the saucer way down and beef up the whole backend so it looks like a Federation Bird Of Prey...

How do you get the subscription when they don't do it for Canada
If they had an excelsior kit’s hull laying around to marry this surplus of voyager saucers, I think there is some better aesthetic potential

Revell/Monogram kits.

One of the few kitbashed ships in Trek that look decent
5:34 that color on the nacelle makes it look like exposed putty, as though it was never painted on the model.
If you do a Trekyards episode, Sam could do a redesign to marry them better together
I was going to say something about this ship being exactly what you said it is a mash up of 2 diff ships XD
Dismantle every last one of those.............You Must Comply!
Yeager class is the worst kitbash in all of Trek,... Kudos for reviewing it,... But yechhhh!!!
Would love to see a Trekyards episode on this model. One of my favorite ships (haters gonna hate)..
Could have sworn that they did one! I must be thinking of one of their conversations with Rick sternbach or Doug Drexler. I'm sure it is now on the list for a review, thank you for the comment! :-)
The Eaglemoss model looks better to me than the CGI. It may be because of the paint job.

It looks like the Voyager mated with a Klingon ship
Yes, it's certainly... unique.
Quantum torpedo that like button my friends XD
Yes! Thank you! It really helps the channel by exposing it to even more Trek fans which will help it grow even further! Appreciate it!

Except it is so much Huger, but I can see it filling the same role as a bird of prey. Just maybe not so Nimble or good at Swift attacks.

@@HazelofStarfleet that is a very good point I didn't consider!
KITBASH!! 😁👍 Looks ugly azfuq! Want more!
(Thought the "ugli fighters" in StarWars were neat)
Exactly, ugly doesn't have to also mean 'bad' I agree. I remember those fighters from SW too. I liked the B-Wing with MF style cockpit ontop hehe.
Be careful when covering Yeager, or you will become an archenemy of Spacedock instandly ^^
