- Customising a Matchbox MB296 Alfa Romeo 155, in the Matchbox range from 1997 until 2001.
Matchbox released their replica of Nicola Larini's 1993 DTM winning Alfa Romeo 155 in 1997. The red model lasted one year before the colours were inverted for 1998. It only had two further issues, one in gold and a red Coca-Cola livery.
While the Matchbox livery is a loose representation of the winning 1993 car, I wanted to recreate an iconic albeit less successful Martini liveried car from 1995. After 1993, the Alfa Corse team failed to replicate their success in the Championship, but they did rack up a number of victories. But Alfa took their cars to compete in Britain, Italy and Spain, claiming Championships in each.
The production model was a fairly modest and initially unloved successor to the Alfa Romeo 75. It was the first to be developed under Fiat following their takeover and the drivetrain had swapped from rear to front wheel drive. However, the screw was turned on opinion of the 155 following its success in motorsport. It was produced from 1992 to 1998.

nifty. :) great work on the decals stuff, too. :) makes one forget how small that model actually is.
I never really followed the DTM, but I remember when Alfa started to shuffle the cards anew. later I lost completely interest in DTM when Audi came in with their V8 machines that were way out of competition no matter what the other teams did. this ain't no sport anymore, I thought and turned around. :P
