  • The Constitution was created by a convention that met in Philadelphia in May 1787 to amend the Articles of Confederation, the nation’s first constitution.
This is Video 2 of the 35-part "The Constitution EXPLAINED" series created by iCivics and the Center for Civic Education to explain the key aspects of the U.S. Constitution in everyday language to make our nation's founding document accessible to everyone. "The Constitution EXPLAINED" was made possible by the generous support of Kenneth C. Griffin.

Just because something is called "weak" did not mean that it was totally incompetent... If there are no more slaves today unlike when they drafted the Constitution that assumption under which the 1787-Constitution was drated is no longer valid..

We did not need a strong-central government rather we needed to be able to rally everyone to a cause when the need arose...not necessarily a strong-central government.

Another issue "OFTEN" Not mentioned is that only "WHITE-RICH" male landowners drafted the 1787-Constittuion. There were no other populations represnted in the drafting of the 1787-Constitution.

You are confusing the drafting of the constitution with the 14th amendment! Yes, all the representatives of all the States were wealthy land owners, but the constitution did not require that demographic to determine representatives, nor did it preclude any demographic from serving as a representative, what the constitution requires is a true representation of ALL THE PEOPLE to participate in the government, in fact it made it possible, and a requirement, for a true demographic representation of the people to be assembled, not just rich white people like we created after the civil war!
You need to review the principles of Republican Government, then you wouldn’t make fallacious statements!

Revisionist History! This is not what happened, and it’s not why it happened, and it’s not what they achieved! If you lay the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the United States side by side, you will understand that there is only an amendment by addition, and only 1 substantive amendment, and that was to change the apportionment of taxes on the States from an assessment of the different forms of property to a per capita apportionment based upon an enumeration, the same enumeration that they established to apportion representation each State was entitled in the House of Representatives.
The addition of a Republican Form of Government to balance the legislative process to protect the interest of both the large and small States in the collective decision making process was established by Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States, however, the original confederacy, a discrete democracy, was retained as Articles 2 & 3 of the Constitution of the United States are are a carbon copy of Article 9 of the Articles of Confederation.
The establishment of legislative checks and balances, separation of powers between the Republican Form of government and the confederate form of government, and the equity is per capita taxation, formed a “More Perfect Union”!
    That’s the real history!

They should have added term limits and ban government agencies.

All government agencies? Some agencies are important like DHS, and most CIV agencies are very important and widely popular.

@@alexanderhendry5819 Tenth amendment. Where does it say in the constitution or it’s other amendments that there can be government agencies other than the treasury, post office, National archives, and military?

@@james_giant_peach I don’t care how important they are, they are unconstitutional, except for the military, treasury, national archives, and post office.

Under the Articles of Confederation those elected to office only served one-year...
