Magnolia North Stars. A good upper-midwest name and it goes with the other two word names in the CFL such as the Rough Riders, Red Blacks, Tiger Cats and Blue Bombers, the latter of which is Magnolia's biggest rival due to the proximity of Winnipeg.
This episode has really solidified what I've been thinking for a little while now - Bend has grown up. There are some very special places in this city. Can't wait to see the transit implementation!
The baby trees growing by the highway works well and there are sound barriers at once instance of it, but you really need fences along the whole thing because people can walk up to the highway, which isn't great, but you also have the potential for wildlife to cross the highway now in a very busy location.
Love the inclusion of a CFL team, it put a smile on my face to see the best gridiron rules brought in. With that said, that is not a regulation CFL field (too small, wrong uprights). Maybe one day we'll get one.
Great video I'm exited to see bend with a CFL team. While the CFL Doesn't have as much fans who watch the game compared to its American counterparts, the stadiums still tend to be quite large. The new stadium in bend feels way too small for a CFL stadium. Too bad there is no large stadium assets yet :(
I absolutely love this district, but I have some feedback based on real life: 1) The monochrome look is nice and sleek, but I actually preferred the slightly random coloring before. Maybe do something a little more controlled, but not totally monochrome. 301 Binney St and 401 Binney St in Cambridge, MA are incredible developments which are great examples of color/style mixing surrounding a full city block. 2) Even though this is a “stadium district”, the in-game stadium is basically just a park. I think some kind of tourist attraction would be a better in-game representation of the economic/activity drivers a pro sports stadium + development district brings. Would be tons of transit utilization and activate your trails/public spaces, too! (Can you edit tourism value in the asset editor??)
I think the Bend Freightliners would be cool.. using a train for the logo. I recall, when Bend was founded, it was because Jamila was moving there with Clearwater Southern's train HQ. Most of the CFL teams (except the Lions) are things that aren't already an NFL team. 🚂
The one thing that gets me is a CFL regulation field is actually 110 yards. They have two 50 yard lines and a “C” Center line between them. The Stadium Asset utilized here features an American football field. Amazing build though!! It would just be great to see a custom asset for the stadium that represents this!
If you want to go the sponsored stadium route, I think the name for the stadium should be The Duluth Arena (Duluth Trading Co.) or something to that effect, large company founded in WI, I’m sure they would love to show their support for a pro sports team!
Create a BRT line somewhere in Magnolia county, that preferably connects one of the suburbs with the Stadium, and the downtown, or extend a tram line: A football stadium requires higher order transit, and preferably change the line name to honor the stadium, upgrade each bus stop with asseted shelters so they look like BRT stations, and where possible add bus lanes.
I must say, over the last few years you have come a long way. Remembering your first video released for CS1 watching you fumble your way around move it (shudders). Love the videos and all the stories you come up with. Keep up all your good work. I wish I had the skills you do in making realistic looking cities and will continue to watch on in amazement at your work.
Love your vids, may not be the most uber detailed builds like other CS2 youtubers, but the way you mix your stories with real life planning concepts (and fantasy), puts you on top
Since Bend's namesake comes from the river (the river bend) perhaps the CFL team should have a river inspired name. Our newest frachise, the Bend Rapids Also Phil, with the stadium there, I think it's time to beautify and expand capacity of the highway bridge over the river near the new transition district. I know the idea is to use transit to get to the stadium, but people will inevitably drive too (there could be crowds of 20k+). I think there should be some extra turning lanes into the sports complex from at least the side where downtown travelers would come from, if not both sides. As it stands, the roadway system would be stressed with even a small influx of fans. Plus, the view of a nice looking bridge just over the stadium is always awesome. Check out PNC Park or Subaru Park for example.
Dunno if you'll see this, but worth a shot. As a woman, I don't think I'd ever use your River Walk Trail, at least not at night. That trail really needs some trail lighting for safety purposes.
I absolutely love this stadium district! Reminds me of the sorts of things teams are doing in places like Atlanta, except done right with actual walkability and transit infrastructure. That said, as much as I hate highways, I do think that realistically a development of this size right next to one, especially with a stadium, would almost certainly include some kind of interchange to serve it directly. As is, to get to the stadium via the highway you'd have to exit either before remembrance park or over by the university and then drive through residential neighborhoods, which would definitely make those residents very unhappy.
When you add transit to the stadium district you should also consider adding the small taxi depot. The taxi service hasn’t grown much and now would be a good time to add smaller local taxi depots
I am very grateful for the high quality content you're putting out here. I am really loving the storytelling and am impressed with the editing. Can imagine a lot of thought process goes into your videos. I am a recent subscriber and slowly catching up on your series. Thank you so much for all the efforts, it's a pleasure to watch you playing, better than a Netflix series. Wish you and your family a lovely Christmas break!
The parking situation here is truly disheartening. SO MUCH OF IT haha. I would love to see a more innovative solution, such as creating a completely pedestrian area around the stadium while being connected to an offsite parking facility via a high-frequency tram or something similar. Additionally, the new trail should have an underground tunnel beneath the highway at its center to connect it to the residential neighborhood. I thoroughly enjoy your videos. Please prioritize your health, but I would greatly appreciate more videos from MC. Cheers
I'm gonna be honest, that parking lot would never fly in Europe, and I think it would never fly in America either. You can't have balconies that touch against parked cars, it's crazy. I can definitely see an underground parking lot instead, that would be a great place to put it, and it would also be a great exercise in style, using the new parking roads underground to create a custom parking lot, while maintaining the great idea for entrance/exit. The only way I could see that parking lot in that place would be by framing it with the French or German buildings that face the internal courtyard and have a plain wall on the back edit: I also feel like there should be a bit more parking for the low rent housing project, as it seems a bit sparse. In Europe I believe all those apartment complexes would have underground parking, private boxes etc, but I don't know if that's the case in the game
Yeah, everybody loves to complain about there being too much parking, but in reality, there's not nearly enough for the residents of the low rent apartments.
Just wow again Phil. Watching you tear down the farm you painstakingly built was "NOOO!!! Oh hang on, REAL." The angled L-shaped buildings was just pure inspiration, not to detract from every other awesome detail. Team name: the Filipers, mascot is a porpoise because all your planning decisions have a porpoise behind them. Ok, running away now... (Anyone else remember a few years ago when Phil started he was always "I am no detailer.")
It’s staring me in the face. You’ve got to name the team “The Benders” for steel, river, and future alcohol plants (and famous robot Bender Bending Rodriguez). 😊
42:07 - There's park benches there. Those don't make a ton of sense, without the crosswalk from the housing or path there. Should consider replacing it with something more... decorative. Like a statue or something like that.
Damn James need a depression ark dude just cant get with it. Also really looking forward to the next episode to see the bus layout. There is effectively no parking and no where to tail gate for the CFL stadium and I GUESS that is chill but with only one hotel and again NO PARKING I really hope the bus go everywhere. Love the path on the river though such a solid add for the community. Those long trails get used all the time by people and bikers not just for fun but for utility to as they are WAY safer then walking or biking near a road. Would love for there to be lights on that path even if its just near the built up parts of path.
The stadium needs to have 110 yards and the deep end zones if it's for CFL! Maybe it could be done with a modded asset. Maybe even just a decal. Although the stadium might need to get longer.
Such a great addition to the city! Part of the build makes me hope we eventually get parking garages that have first story retail and themed cladding. The detailing around the river looks amazing. I'd spend many weekends in the fall/spring walking or riding my bike there. Can't wait for a DLC to add fishing docks and other assets to really activate waterfront development.
I watch all your videos and don't normally comment. I just wanted to say that I love your self deprecating montages while you're fiddling with things. They never fail to make me laugh and brighten my day.
Love the shout out to the CFL and you did some history research. Is there a CFL stadium asset available. A CFL field is slightly different than an NFL field. The biggest difference is the field is 110 yards long and 20 yard end zones and 50 yards wide. Also the uprights are placed on the goal line
Hey Phil, a couple questions/suggestions: 1) The bridge to Bend gets transformed into a major arterial with the new stadium district, right? I can see it being clogged on game days. I think that the 4-way crossing shouldn't be also a pedestrian crossing (maybe some pedestrian bridges?) or a better solution (like a roundabout), since it's going to be a major choke point, specially on game days. It would also be hell for buses. 2) I think I saw a pedestrian trail that ends directly on a highway? 3) The low rent housing estate has very few parking spots available for the density, perhaps maybe redeveloping some of the low density houses nearby as parking?
I absolutely loved the build! However, when you revisit this location, the University Avenue Interchange onto Superior Highway could use an upgrade to match the new Stadium District. Having to come to a stop and turn across highway traffic poses a safety risk, especially with the increased traffic volumes this new development will attract. Additionally, traffic backing up on the highway could potentially reduce the desirability for businesses in this area.
I think there should be a little playground for the kids in that low rent housing area for when school isn't in session. That much housing, there are for sure a lot of kids who live there and I think that would be a nice little communal spot for that mini neighborhood. Also good for Jamila.
Looking through the lens of EMS/Fire/Police. You created an area that is very challenging to respond too, especially for EMS and Fire. You placed all these two-lane roads. With the influx of traffic this area will see, it will require Fire and EMS to oppose traffic a bunch and overall will see a significant delay in response times. In other words, an area that will have a rather high call volume that is dangerous to actually respond too with a net result of delay in response time. No one wins in this situation. You should reconsider some of these roads to aid in emergency response.
I'd like to think an area like this would take a look at European emergency services, who can take sidewalks and bike paths to get to their destination faster when traffic is backed up.
What an amazingly creative build. its nice to see CPP be more comfortable with elevation despite the game's systems making vertical builds rather difficult.
This is my favorite city tour in a while! I really love when you give us some street level views to really make it feel like we’re a part of the city instead of a floating omniscient planner god
🚂 New Team Name should be the “Steam Shovels” with their mascot “Mike Mulligan”. Not only is it a nod to an old children’s book about a construction worker building a town hall, but it’s also a reference to all the Mulligans that get called throughout the series
PHIL! SAVE YOUR FINGERS! Inspired by what you do with the rock walls, I've been adding them to my cities. By using the line tool (mod) with the random rotation boulder and playing with the 'offset variation' settings you can drag multiple lines of randomly offset rocks over themselves and achieve with same look with almost no pain.
James had this divorce a long time coming. If I were in Jamila's shoes, the divorce papers would have been served after James eavesdropped on the Clearwater Southern meetings. Putting a partner's career at risk is a huge red flag.
32:17 "I do want to feel like you could be close to the water. You can go sit on the water if you want to" Then adding a bunch of rocks so you can't sit on the river bank 🤣
38:14 I feel like that neighborhood of single family homes would be very angry at all of the urbanization happening around them. I can only imagine the extra noise and traffic. Maybe that neighborhood could be redeveloped into some larger, more modern, residential properties like condos or duplexes so the area makes more sense.
Looking good! These new assets have really helped elevated thus build to the next level! I think it would be nice to see a dedicated pedestrian bridge linking both sides of the river together to unify the walkability of Bend and establish a more prominent ‘green corridor’ for the city… Also can’t imagine citizens would enjoy crossing the river right next to noisy busy highway! :)
I think that if you're already pushing the "Move-it" tool to the max, you could also add one of the plopabble (golf driving range?) tall nets as a division between the buildings and the parking building exterior. It would add more realism and consideration (ahem, safeness) by not allowing people to jump from one place to the other or throw stuff. Love the content Phil! Keep it up and Happy Holidays!
Hello, I live across the street and as soon as I see you build a new area and a new parking lot, I decided to drive through the bridge, leave my car at the new parking space and turn back home on foot. This city is lacking parking space, fucking hell!!
This episode made me feel like a tourist in the city at the end. The build turned out amazing! It reminds me of the Greenwood Village/Denver Tech Center area.

The baby trees growing by the highway works well and there are sound barriers at once instance of it, but you really need fences along the whole thing because people can walk up to the highway, which isn't great, but you also have the potential for wildlife to cross the highway now in a very busy location.
I'm so happy I was born in just the right year to witness the first Cities Skylines series with a divorce storyline. This is incredible.
Too bad there is no large stadium assets yet :(
I absolutely love this district, but I have some feedback based on real life:
1) The monochrome look is nice and sleek, but I actually preferred the slightly random coloring before.
I think that's a really great idea.
The one thing that gets me is a CFL regulation field is actually 110 yards. They have two 50 yard lines and a “C” Center line between them. The Stadium Asset utilized here features an American football field. Amazing build though!! It would just be great to see a custom asset for the stadium that represents this!
About time, Jamila!
If you want to go the sponsored stadium route, I think the name for the stadium should be The Duluth Arena (Duluth Trading Co.) or something to that effect, large company founded in WI, I’m sure they would love to show their support for a pro sports team!
Should go for an in-game industrial giant instead. Like the company that operates the controversial paper mill.
Lewis Lumber Stadium?
Create a BRT line somewhere in Magnolia county, that preferably connects one of the suburbs with the Stadium, and the downtown, or extend a tram line: A football stadium requires higher order transit, and preferably change the line name to honor the stadium, upgrade each bus stop with asseted shelters so they look like BRT stations, and where possible add bus lanes.
i wasnt a fan of the parking structure until you managed to get those roads going through the gaps of the buildings that was really satisfying
23:30
color: beige, tan, sand, peach, even brown
phil: "red, pinkish"
Wow, I really was stunned with the story direction! Great video, Phil! 🏈
Not me audibly gasping at the divorce papers XD
As a CFL fan this is an unexpected crossover
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
All twelve CFL fans will be very excited.
Since Bend's namesake comes from the river (the river bend) perhaps the CFL team should have a river inspired name.
Our newest frachise, the Bend Rapids
Also Phil, with the stadium there, I think it's time to beautify and expand capacity of the highway bridge over the river near the new transition district.
The lore is crazy. I love this series
Dunno if you'll see this, but worth a shot.
As a woman, I don't think I'd ever use your River Walk Trail, at least not at night. That trail really needs some trail lighting for safety purposes.
Good point. I'll take a look!
It then needs some bush clusters away from the trail for young couples without their own place to ... loiter.... :-p
Magnolia Mulligans! With their mascot Mulligan Murphy, a Scottish highlander!
Thank you, I’m glad I’m not the only one who noticed 😂
24:15 I think the buildings looked better with the random colors. absolutely love this new area though. some of my favorite style of buildings.
Maybe a massive Transit overhaul in the next episode? You could add a Harbour in Paradise bay to let people get in easier.
The only way I could see that parking lot in that place would be by framing it with the French or German buildings that face the internal courtyard and have a plain wall on the back
edit: I also feel like there should be a bit more parking for the low rent housing project, as it seems a bit sparse. In Europe I believe all those apartment complexes would have underground parking, private boxes etc, but I don't know if that's the case in the game
Yeah, everybody loves to complain about there being too much parking, but in reality, there's not nearly enough for the residents of the low rent apartments.
He's obviously making do with the assets that are in the game, so things are touching that wouldn't touch, but complexes like this exist in America.
Love this! Great idea to expand the CFL and add to the lore of MC! Thanks Phil!
“I want them to feel the pain of driving there” - proceeds to flood the entire area with parking xD
I watch all your videos and don't normally comment. I just wanted to say that I love your self deprecating montages while you're fiddling with things. They never fail to make me laugh and brighten my day.
Omg Jamila did it! Good for her
Love the shout out to the CFL and you did some history research. Is there a CFL stadium asset available. A CFL field is slightly different than an NFL field. The biggest difference is the field is 110 yards long and 20 yard end zones and 50 yards wide. Also the uprights are placed on the goal line
Hey Phil, a couple questions/suggestions:
1) The bridge to Bend gets transformed into a major arterial with the new stadium district, right?
Happy to see she left him after that stunt. Drama aside, this is a fantastic build. Cant wait for more. Cheers!
I think there should be a little playground for the kids in that low rent housing area for when school isn't in session. That much housing, there are for sure a lot of kids who live there and I think that would be a nice little communal spot for that mini neighborhood. Also good for Jamila.
Just across the road from the school would be great spot. It might encourage more sims to use the riverside footpaths
@ here in America, we have bike teams as well as teams that deploy on foot. Not as common as our European counterparts, but it is a thing.
Not divorce!!! James done messed up. He should have stopped the spectating for land and paid attention to his own house. MmmMmm…..
From a stadium operations perspective. Bus only lans would make it easier to get buses to the center on game day
We need the NHL in Magnolia County ASAP
Oh snap! Yeah Jamel, show James what's what!
I hear the Bears are in the process of building a new stadium. Though a lot of people are questioning the design team's koala-fications.
James had this divorce a long time coming. If I were in Jamila's shoes, the divorce papers would have been served after James eavesdropped on the Clearwater Southern meetings. Putting a partner's career at risk is a huge red flag.
CPP: "And here you can hang out by the water, put your feet in it, it'll be great!"
Also CPP: *Blocks all water access with huge boulders*
Sorry babe, I know it’s 11:55pm, but the latest episode of my favorite town drama has been dropped. I’ll come to bed soon
32:17 "I do want to feel like you could be close to the water. You can go sit on the water if you want to"
Then adding a bunch of rocks so you can't sit on the river bank 🤣
CS2 really needs bigger stadiums that fit major sports leagues
Also number 1 issue I’ve noticed is not enough parking. Football fans loves to tailgate, no parking lots = no tailgating
@@davidcooke6800 my thoughts exactly. It is America after all 😂
This was one fo the better builds you have done. The assets were top notch and the concept was hitting on all cylinders. Great work.
1:42 WHO ELSE CHEERED
I GASPED SO LOUD
38:14 I feel like that neighborhood of single family homes would be very angry at all of the urbanization happening around them. I can only imagine the extra noise and traffic. Maybe that neighborhood could be redeveloped into some larger, more modern, residential properties like condos or duplexes so the area makes more sense.
I can’t say I’m surprised Jamila and James are splitting up.
Team name, the Bend City Rollers or the Bend City RoughRiders, can't have too many rough riders in the CFL
CFL MENTIONED RAAAAAAAAHHHHH
Hello, I live across the street and as soon as I see you build a new area and a new parking lot, I decided to drive through the bridge, leave my car at the new parking space and turn back home on foot. This city is lacking parking space, fucking hell!!
Us canadians have been satisfied for now...
This episode made me feel like a tourist in the city at the end. The build turned out amazing! It reminds me of the Greenwood Village/Denver Tech Center area.
To say my jaw dropped the floor and I cringed in pain as you recoloured all those wonderful buildings into grey and white is an understatement
same
The white looks sharp and modern, particularly suitable for a sports complex like this. All those different colors looked so disjointed to me, I'm glad he went that route
The jump scare of chuckles in the city tour🤣
YES JAMILA, YESSS!!!!
You should install and auto clicker software for rock walls! Enable it for that portion and it's just painting at that point!
17:43 the parks look like a face lol
😂
I think that you should have added a recreational area inbetween the wraparound triangle building. Like a small enclosed park.
Wowwwwww…James and Jemila 💔
but tbh, communication is key in a relationship and james failed at that 🤷♂️
