Introduced my husband to this song. He felt it had a primal sound that resonated with the soul. Now he listens to it in the truck, subwoofers on, volume up, on his way to work, singing his heart out and doesn't give a crap what people think of his singing!
That’s definitely the way I listen to this song. Full blast and singing along😍😍😍
Kudos to your husband! We should all take our cue from him. Not giving a crap what other people think about us!
100% the same story for my husband..
ITS GREAT
Just a note, all the vocals are Avi.
I'm so glad you reacted to Avi! He is my favorite member from Pentatonix! he said in an interview that he wrote this song for himself because it was like a cry to himself that things were going to get better! It's so amazing that so many of his songs can apply to so many of us. Love Avi! keep reacting to him please!! Check out his album Avriel and the Sequoias! Love your reactions and your rants! Keep it up!
All sounds by avi! He's pure genius!
Yay I’m so glad you reacted to this. It’s one of his original songs. Don’t apologize for being excited or expressing what the song brings out do you. That’s why we watch you!! Please react to Avi and Peter Hollens Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair. The vocals are truly fantastic and all a cappella. You won’t regret it! Love from California ❤️
Absolutely, Fable! Absolutely! Preach it! Love this song from Avi....I want more! More! Please!
Another reactor said: if this song doesn't make you make to lead a charge or change your life I don't know what will :)
I cannot get tired of this song. It still moves me after all the times I've heard it...and I'll never stop listening.
Преклоняюсь перед силой голоса Ави🙌👍
This is featured on the podcast Relative Unknown.
Avi is brilliant.
Avi is a basso profundo. This means he has an exceptional low range. If you listen to Pentatonix aha live at Singapore the star vista He actually blows out a speaker
Great reaction! I agree with you about the war cry part. When I first heard this song I pictured men and women of all walks of life....young, old, black, white, poor, rich.....all gearing up for battle. Kissing their loved ones and walking out their doors. All merging together in the streets.....cities, suburbs, mountains. All coming together to fight the good fight, whatever it may be.
Avi Kaplan he have a great voice for this music 🎶
Skip your rant? Never. Best part of your reactions is the rant. That's why I'm subscribed. Keep 'em comin'.
Isn't "We're singin' all day and you can't tame it" one of the best lyrics ever? And that underlying drum heartbeat. And, of course, that voice. Yum.
Love your reactions, especially the philosophy-of-life tangents. The best music always moves us to see ourselves with greater clarity. Avi's basso profundo voice and creative composition are 'profundo'... great to listen to a reactor that appreciates those levels. Subbed.
Seconded Kaye Castleman - I come for the philosophy as much as for the reactions. He kinda makes you want to sit down and have a good chat with a brew (UK by the way so that would be Tea) :)
@@jeannietaylor4968 Canada, here. (I did work in London for a bit in the 70's... loved those fabulous pub lunches!) Yes, I have a feeling we could agree on how to solve most of the world's issues. ;-)
@@jeannietaylor4968 or maybe a pint? Just sayin’
@@jeancaldwell5391 - indeed - would happily sit with you and solve world issues, but alcohol has never agreed with me so mine would have to be Yorkshire tea I'm afraid (but I do believe we would be able to put the world to rights :)
@@jeannietaylor4968 Truth be told, I can’t have the alcohol either, so it would be coffee or tea for me as well. But we definitely would have a good time anyhow..
Can you comment twice?
Let's find out.
This is from his EP and each song played in sequence charts his path from depression or confusion to spiritual redemption.
It's not just his voice that is deep.
That deep rumble of a bass is indeed Avi himself, and this absolutely is a warrior cry. 😂 I don't know why, but every time I watch the video that scene from the Hunger Games franchise comes to mind where people are marching to blow up the dam.
Me too!!! Exactly that scene.
💯 the entire world is at a stage of reckoning - humanities history is littered with the moments of times of change and I truly believe that’s 2020! This song fits in a Vikings historical type setting and also today which makes it purely great music 🇨🇦
Love don’t flipping stop every 10 seconds. 😢😢😢😢😢
Me: Oh this is gonna be good...
Me, several minutes later: Seeeeee?
And yes. All the background noises (vocals, instrumentals, etc) were done by Avi, layering with himself, except the organ and the tambourine
Avi Kaplan was my favorite member of PTX. I was super sad when he left. But his solo projects are on point. 💯🔥🔥🔥#FableSquad
He was my favorite too. However, I've come to love Matt, and now we get to have Avi's solo songs, which are very different from PTX.
Thank you for an awesome reaction to Avi
Hey bro! Great reaction, this is one of my favorites if not my absolute favorite by Avi, I thoroughly enjoyed this song as well lol and I am flattered to share a resemblance with him 😂
Love all his music it touches your soul!!!
lol Suffi yep love his reactions as well. Keep up the good work..now i'm ready for battle...with what, don't know, but I'm ready....thanks Avi
WOWSERS..😲😲 10's for sure.. I really loved this.. more please
Hope you are doing ok much love and god bless x
Thanks Wendy 😘..
I listen to this Every Single Night on my walk!!!!! So glad you reacted to this!!
You rock. Just love your reactions, I so connect with them, many thanks!
Avi really does justice to the story of the Underground Railroad here both visually and with his soulful singing..
I love this warrior song so much!! So glad to see your reaction to it.
I see you love him too! Thanks for a cool reaction! More, please!
I LOVE what you said about this being a "productivity song"! I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that before, and I've watched LOTS of reactions to this song. (This, like almost all of Avi's work, is an original; lyrics and music by Avi Kaplan alone.) You're right: it's an inspiring song that makes you want to get up and DO something to bring about the changes we need in this world. Oh, and thanks so much for pointing out that there actually has been progress! Life is a lot better for many people than it was even in my childhood. (We're not there yet, of course.)
Avi sings ALL the vocals, including the low droning and the high notes and all of the choir harmonies. Also the deep "Whoo" sounds on the beat starting around 7:43 (you sang over part of it, but keep listening). The only instruments he used were "a little percussion" and some organ at the bridge (7:05). The day Avi released this track he did a Q&A on Twitter immediately after the premiere. I asked him about instruments, and that was his answer: he did all the vocals, and the only instruments were percussion and the organ.
OHHHHH GREATTT
Fil...I love it. Avi's voice is so smooth and deep.
I used to play this songs all day long last year and sing it around the house and sometimes at work too.😅
It has beautiful metaphors. It reminds me of a Bible verse which says: "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"
BIG Avi fan here~~ Loved your reaction, philosophy and all! Hoping to see you continue to react to this uniquely beautiful man!
You get his message Bud Love it
So happy to see you do this one, Fil! Thank you! Avi showed his talent in Pentatonix... but he explodes with it now in his solo career... It is my understanding that Avi wrote this one right after or before leaving Pentatonix... he needed a change.. change was on the rise.. and yes it sounds like his war cry... to change himself.. to get back to his roots.... the type of music he was raised with.. looking forward to what you give us next for Avi... I hope you and your family stay safe & strong... 💜💜
Thanks for the reaction :) Enjoyed the philosophical perspective you raised as well, Appreciated. Looking forward to more from PTX as well from you, when you can.
I love watching Suffi reacts ❤️ and you are another favorite reactor. Thank you
This song sounds primal or tribal... like warriors off to battle! Love it!
I have watched you for some months now, and you never disappoint. I will check out Suffi Reacts, thanks for the heads up.
Love his voice and the song Really great reaction!!
You should react to him and Peter Hollins singing Black is the Color of my true loves hair.
A 17th century Scottish song.
I was looking thru your reactions and saw this. Man, great reaction, and Ive listened to everything he's done solo. Wow!!
The Great Awakening
Suffi also loves this song. Legit he had a crazy reaction. Go check it out. Haha
Yay! I was hoping you would listen to him!
I have my Avi playlist always at the ready!
Yaaas! I love this song, it vibrates in your chest 😍 so happy you got to review Avi on his own, he is really an amazing singer 🙌
Yeah Suffi is one of my favorite reactors. I never skip your rants haha!
Another awesome reaction. I absolutely adore you. You spoke of Songs like this really winding you up. I had mention once that the role of the artist is to ask questions not to answer them. And that is where you take the music you are listening to you ask questions and you give your answer. You speak About what is true to you. Another reactor said that he saw the song being part of a TV or a movie such of the sons of anarchy. I completely see them Getting on there boots there leather there hats turning on their harleys, their helmets notthat's, and getting ready to Fight With arrival club. Somebody mentioned in a comment that this song is actually Buy avy about his depression. I am bipolar and Often times suffer with bipolar depression. When I am depressed I have lost my soul and I can't stay Take a stand when My flame has gone cold. I don't care about eating, I don't care about work, I don't care about changing my clothes I don't care about showering. I move through the life but I am not a part of life. I exist but I don't live As far as Feeling a change on the rise to me it's when I'm starting to come out of the depression Which is not to say I stay out of it for long because my it's nature bipolar depression Is extremely hard to treat. He talks about fending off the enemy to sing out the jubiley. And That Is exactly how I see my depression as an enemy. It is an awful thing to have to battle your own mind everyday. But I fight that battle everyday Because I know Things will get better At some point. That doesn't mean they stay better. What goes up must come down and that is true for everybody but if you have the mental health diagnosis Your ups are up and your downs are down. I don't know if you got it but the video starts at sunset and talks about what happens in the shadows and then it ends with the sun rising. And this really describes depression. Depression Has you live in darkness and nothing can grow in darkness it must have the light. Franz Nietzsche said that if you stare into the abyss the abyss will stare back.
You mention that We are living in the best of times and if you went back 100 years We have so much more than they did.. My 1st response is innocence. They had their innocence. Not just in regards to what is going to happen With the camps, the depression, the wars. I don't see it as being naive But innocent Just like a child Has innocence.
Loved your reaction!😄and I love that music inspires you...it should inspire everyone!!✌
A nice counterpart to this is Otherside.
You’re a GREAT reactor! You really get into it and that is fun for us to see! Thanks!
Some other reactor said it sounds like wood blocks knocking and I've never thought of that but it's 🤯
I just LOVE AVI and his VOICE.
Sooooo GooooooD!
And love the ORGANIC field to it... main focus on the voice, and not drowned in instruments.
YES!! I've officially adopted this as a theme song for when I need change and get things done!
Thnx Fil, yet again, thnx for all that you've given me through your vids. You make a huge difference.
All the Best from Arctic Norway o/
I FEEL CHANGE is on the RISE
New subscriber here! My favorite Avi song is the alt version of Aberdeen. He does it in a lower key than his original version. No video yet (if you don’t count the vinyl spin video), just THAT VOICE! ❤️
I agree with everything you said.
I really like this song!
He's making all the sounds by himself
Just imagine. Avi Kaplan and Eivor. Uggh want this collab to happen 🤯
I just have to add, I love that you shout out other reactors. I’m also subscribed to Suffi Reax, he’s lovely!
Absolutely gorgeous soulful voice absolutely amazing love this ...ooooh incredible ..you always make me smile thanku so very much ...love an God bless x
Below is an excerpt about Avi from Pentatonix The Perfect Quintet
sites.psu.edu/passionofthecummings/2018/01/09/pentatonix-the-perfect-quintet/
I recommend the entire article because it provides a profile of each member as well as some background on the group.
About Avi Kaplan
Up until May 2017, Pentatonix’s bassist was Avi Kaplan, who has an impressively deep and rich vocal range. Kaplan’s voice ranges from E1 to D5, spanning nearly 5 octaves, and remains very rich throughout. Kaplan served an important role in Pentatonix, as his incredibly deep voice served as the backbone for many of the group’s vocal arrangements. Kaplan also possesses the rare ability to “overtone sing,” which is when an artist is able to sing two notes at once. All of Avi’s incredible talents made him an impressive member of Pentatonix’s roster from its inception. Unfortunately, Kaplan left the group in 2017.
My comment:
Avi left the group amicably in 2017 for personal/family reasons. He helped them find Matt Sallee, his replacement.
Great reaction! ❤
AVI Krasava !!! how Brutal he is !!! Super !!! reaction 👍💪✊🙏💞💞💞🖐️💥💘🏵️🍁😆😂
Not enough people listen to this man. Please explore further! On the other end of the spectrum I recommend Aberdeen or Otherside!
I can't believe I missed your reaction to this 2 months ago. LOVE it. And LOVE you reaction. You get it Fable. However, I do watch Suffi, and I don't think think he looks like Avi, at all. 😂❤️
Avi is the bomb! ✌❤T.NoBoDY
Avi is so intense. Like his new look as well. It fits him. Man, this was a really good song, and I'm glad he's doing his own thing - this especially tells me he made the right decision. Fable, you find them all don't you? Love Pentatonix of course, and Avi was such a big part - I hated to see him go. Now I understand it better. I will look for more Avi songs now for sure.
(is it really 'new' look to him tho? 😉)
@@livus3787 I don't know obviously, sorry for the comment - but he seems different...? Do you know him personally? Anyway, we both know he's Avi, and he's great, and he's still willing to work with his friends, and do his own thing. Your question makes me think you really know him, so I'd be happy to be enlightened. I think he is very, very talented.
Instruments- he used a drum, a tambourine, and reluctantly admits to an organ in just a spot or two.
No choir, his is the only voice here. He recorded each part and multi-tracked them. Just pure Avi.
If you play this at work your coworkers may be in danger of your impaling them if they irritate you. This is warrior music! (Ok, maybe not impaling, but perhaps forcibly holding them down and tattooing PEACE across their forehead.)
That's Pronounced Sooofi Reacts. LOL
Not sure why he is reluctant about admitting to having the organ in particular. It's a cool instrument!
@@Spectralyzed Not sure, but he seemed shy or reluctant about it. Maybe because for so many years he had Mitch to make such noises for him.
I wonder if the line about what goods a man who lost his soul is autobiographical because when Avi announced he was leaving PTX he said he felt that staying would bring down the others and he would never want that. Please react to the video of Avi's "It Knows Me". It's trippy but I would love to hear your analysis because you see so many things I don't. Love your reactions ☺
Hey Fil, just knew you would love this and your reaction did not disappoint. We also get some excellent philosophy (or should that be 'filosophy') thrown in too. You smashed it again, thank you (btw, Suffi is in my top 5 reactors list - I'd need to see Avi in a backwards baseball cap before I could compare :)
Or Suffi in a beanie.
@@Russ_Keith yup.... that would work too 🤣
I'm so glad you reacted to Avi's solo music! I think it would be great if you would also react to I'll Get By, and/or It Turns Out Fine. Both songs have meaning (well, don't all songs heh), and I think you would "get it" and love it! It makes me so happy when people listen to Avi and see that he's not just the bass from Pentatonix. I'm subscribed to Suffi! He's a great reactor and I like him alot. Cool of you to give him a shout out. Thank you so much for your reaction, loved it as always!
“It Turns Out Fine” is actually called Quarter Past Four and it’s one of my absolute favorite songs. ❤️
@@mbualat I knew that! lol I think I typed that because I was just hearing it in my head. Thank you! 🤣
First you stole my comment, because this songs speaks of 2020 completely. I truly was surprised that during the BLM marches SOMEONE did not have this playing, and the line that says "what goods a man who lost his soul, can't take a stand when his flames gone cold" sums up a lot of our politicians here in the US.
Also, I do follow Suffi Reacts, love his channel also. I am pretty sure he LOVED this song!
Thank you Fable Fil for your reactions, I always love and appreciate them.
Great reaction!! You're right...it's a great song to listen in odd situations.. and Suffi reacted to this song a month ago, by the way hahaha!
React to his song “I’ll get by!”
Hey, just found your channel when Avi's song popped up. You need to give HIM your thoughts on his video, please. He did all the background vocals and very little instrumentation - I think a drum and bit of organ or something like that. I've watched a video of him and his touring band do this live, and it was pretty doggone amazing (as was the rest of the concert). I'm a die-hard Avi fan. His other pieces are quite a bit different and varied from this one though. Hope you enjoy them as well. Thanks for the reaction.
Agree he looks like Suffi. :) I have thought that a few times when he is reviewing PTX videos. Great reaction, as always. Love Avi.
I follow Suffix - you are right. Lol! Loved your reaction!
The Star of Bethlehem will appear in the north American night sky on December 21 for the first time in 800 years.
Change on the Rise ?
You should really react to some of his other songs like "quarter past 4" "ill get by" or "it knows me" although these songs have him w a higher voice they have uplifting and deep lyrics
I just want to jump onto a big black warhorse, with a bright standard in hand and head out to..... not sure, but this song will get me there!
Great reaction!! Avi is the man. He is my favorite PTX singer. Love them all, but PTX misses him. They're still great don't get me wrong. Also try 'I'll get by'.
please check out Pentatonix dance of the sugar plum fairy for some more cool avi stuff!
In my opinion, the manliness that comes through in this song and with his voice is commanding; no sissy man going on here.
Great reaction as always! I have watched Suffi and you are right , he does resemble Avi. I don't normally ask for requests but check out Post Modern Jukebox. They are a collective of different singers and musicians headed by Scott Bradley. They take familiar songs and put a vintage spin on them. Start with Morgan James doing Aerosmiths Dream On. It will absolutely blow you away! Keep up the reactions. You are one of the best. Thanks!
I had a feeling you’d enjoy this one☺️
Please do "I'll get by" from Avi.
One would be hard pressed to put Avi in any existing genre....
There's a bit of tamborine and organ used in this, other than that, it's all vocals.
With some hand claps and stomps, but still technically a cappella (as Kevin would likely agree).
Remember:
"This Too Shall Pass"
(Edward FitzGerald)
(also Abraham Lincoln et al.)
I've said it before:
"It's all just another case of history repeating"
{Propellorheads)
for better or worse.
Ohhh yeees!! I'm glad you stepped into his solo music! Another good song to listen to would be "It Knows Me". I love the lyrics (you'll have a lot to talk about with this one, I believe) and the arrangement is good as well. Give it a listen of you have the chance.

Fil - I love it when you get that ugly face! It means that it is really tugging at your soul. This one pulls me forward, too. Keep on ranting friend because you are spot on
If you're looking for some other PTX solo stuff that's killer, check out KO's "down"
Kevin crushes it and that's all I'll say
ha ha I do watch Suffi Reacts.
